Morecambe on brink of being thrown out of National League as final deadline is missed
Owner oversaw a club kicked out of a league in a different sport NO MORE Morecambe on brink of being thrown out of National League as final deadline is missed MORECAMBE are on the verge of being chucked out of the National League. Panjab Warriors were trying to buy the 105-year-old club from owner Jason Whittingham's Bond Group Investments. 1 Morecambe have missed the final deadline and are on the brink of being kicked out the National League Credit: Shutterstock Editorial But tonight it was confirmed that a deal had not been reached. The Shrimps are suspended from football's fifth tier until August 20 over a failure to comply with the league's rules. And if they fail to satisfy National League chiefs, they will be expelled. It now seems likely they will go the same way as Bury and Macclesfield and be forced to reform. "Jason Whittingham your legacy is in your hands. "You will be remembered in Morecambe not for your intentions, but for the outcome of today. Do the right thing, stop the suffering." Morecambe were relegated from League Two last season following an 18-year spell in the EFL. They are currently suspended by the fifth tier National League for failing "to meet its financial obligations for the 2025/2026 season". This all comes after the Panjab Warriors had a takeover bid approved by the EFL in June. After the board tried to force through the sale, Whittingham responded by sacking the entire board before later inviting them back. Rugby club Worcester Warriors were expelled from the Premiership under Whittingham's management three years ago.

‘We would have lost that last year' – Conor Hourihane on a high as new L1 term opens with wins for Cork-born bosses
Two of Ireland's managers in the EFL are off to a flyer as Barnsley boss Conor Hourihane says he already likes what he sees from his Barnsley outfit. Barnsley began the new season with a 2-1 win over Plymouth Argyle, while fellow Corkman Brian Barry-Murphy started his reign as Cardiff City boss with a defeat of Peterborough United by the same score, though another Munster-born coach, Noel Hunt, watched in frustration as his Reading outfit lost 2-0 away to Lincoln City on opening day in League One.

Ian Holloway vows to 'hunt down' Swindon fan who threw chair at Walsall keeper
Ian Holloway has pledged to track down the Swindon supporter who hurled a chair at Walsall's goalkeeper during their opening League Two fixture of the season. The Robins suffered a 2-1 loss after Connor Barrett netted a 91st-minute winner despite the Saddlers being reduced to 10 men. The dying moments of the clash at Bescot Stadium witnessed shot-stopper Myles Roberts collapse with a calf problem. In reaction to this, an item was launched from the stands towards the stricken keeper. Goalscorer Barrett handed the object to the referee and now an investigation will be conducted by both teams into a number of incidents which occurred. Swindon boss Holloway was incredulous following the incident and appeared to suggest it was part of the stadium's seating that was thrown in Roberts' direction. The ex-Blackpool and QPR boss called upon those around the perpetrator to come forward as he aims to hunt down the aggressor. "I am a human being who loves this game but I also love other human beings," said Holloway. "I am here to represent my wonderful football club in a way that is courteous in defeat – tenacious as well, I want to fight for things, but you don't rip out a seat and throw it at someone. "I wouldn't want Walsall thinking that about all of us, so anyone stood next to them, I want them dobbed in because that's not right. "These people creep into football and no one does anything about it. I am standing up for Swindon Town, a magnificent club and we don't want anything to do with this. "Whoever you are, you should be ashamed of yourself. I am going to hunt you down and find you." Holloway added that he was disgusted his side's supporters had acted in such a manner. The veteran manager wants to see the person banned if they are identified. "Well done to them (Walsall) I thought their crowd was great. Disgusted with our crowd throwing something on the pitch. "Who the hell do you think you are? You represent us and you represent me - how dare you do that. That's absolutely disgusting, so I hope whoever that was gets banned." Swindon noted they were aware of a 'number of serious incidents' during the game. That included 'the use of pyrotechnics, objects being thrown, abuse directed at stewards, staff, players and match officials, as well as damage caused to property within the stadium'. "This behaviour has absolutely no place at our football club or in the wider game," the Robins said. "Let us be clear: any individuals found to have engaged in such actions will face the strictest possible sanctions, including banning orders and legal action where appropriate."
