But tonight it was confirmed that a deal had not been reached.
The Shrimps are suspended from football's fifth tier until August 20 over a failure to comply with the league's rules.
And if they fail to satisfy National League chiefs, they will be expelled.
It now seems likely they will go the same way as Bury and Macclesfield and be forced to reform.

Morecambe were relegated from League Two last season following an 18-year spell in the EFL.
They are currently suspended by the fifth tier National League for failing "to meet its financial obligations for the 2025/2026 season".
This all comes after the Panjab Warriors had a takeover bid approved by the EFL in June.
After the board tried to force through the sale, Whittingham responded by sacking the entire board before later inviting them back.
Rugby club Worcester Warriors were expelled from the Premiership under Whittingham's management three years ago.

‘Didn't know we'd jumped into a car with a seven-time All-Ireland winner' – Ex-Dublin ace rescues Wexford Fleadh punters

There was somewhat of a similar vibe in Dublin over the weekend as there was in Wexford WEXFORD WAY 'Didn't know we'd jumped into a car with a seven-time All-Ireland winner' – Ex-Dublin ace rescues Wexford Fleadh punters EOGHAN O'GARA was often the super-sub during his playing days with Dublin and emerged as the late hero for two Wexford Fleadh punters. Brandon Cassidy and his pal told of how they had failed in their efforts to snag a taxi to Wexford Town - only for O'Gara to save the day. "Chanced our arm with this man not knowing who he was, 10 minutes into the car journey he says his name. Didn't know we're after jumping into the car with seven-time All-Ireland winner. Gent!!" The lovely gesture was hailed by X users as a "fantastic story". Another Brandon replied: "Fantastic story. Enjoy the fleadh ceoil." While Robbie hailed: "That's what us Dubs are about, especially the southside Dubs, Eoghan is a gent & hasn't he also won a Wexford SF title with Shelmaliers?" Advertisement There were similar scenes of celebration back in the capital too as the Dublin ladies team walloped Meath in the All-Ireland final on Sunday. On Monday the team maintained a long-running tradition by visiting The Boar's Head with the Brendan Martin Cup. The All-Ireland winners in both the men's and women's game stop by the historic boozer with the trophy the day after the All-Ireland final each year. Paul Casey and Derek Murray's panel had a busy Bank Holiday Monday as they also brought the trophy to the Crumlin Children's Hospital. Advertisement It was meant to be an even more hectic schedule though, but the windy conditions from Storm Floris saw the official homecoming in Smithfield Square postponed until Tuesday evening. A Dublin City Council statement explained: "Due to Monday's strong winds the homecoming has been moved to the Tuesday rather than the day after the final which would be traditionally done. "Dublin City Council have organised the homecoming for 6pm on Tuesday in Smithfield Square." There will be music and face painting as well as the Brendan Martin Cup present at the event. Casey is delighted to get the chance to present the Cup in front of the Dublin fans. Advertisement When speaking to RTÉ, he outlined: "We're looking forward to getting a great crowd in Smithfield and giving the girls a reception they deserve." He added: "It's great to wake up this morning as All-Ireland champions. "A morning like this is special and tops off a day what was a great day yesterday. It's great, it's a fantastic privilege to come and see the kids in the hospital. "The morning after an All-Ireland is really nice to come here and see the smiles on their faces and all the different county jerseys."

Rachel Graham says Athlone Town have tools to stay on European march

Shelbourne's Rachel Graham believes Athlone Town have the qualities to give Icelandic champions Breidablik a serious test when they meet in Round 2 of the Champions League qualifiers later this month. Athlone have their supporters in dreamland after easing past Cardiff City in the Round 1 semi-final and then overpowering Croatian outfit Agram in the final. Both of those games were at the Athlone Town Stadium, with Cardiff and Agram in their respective pre-seasons. Such advantages won't be present in a few weeks' time. Colin Fortune will bring his side to the Netherlands for a Round 2 semi-final against a Breidablik team top of their league table 11 games into their campaign. The winners will take on either FC Twente or Red Star Belgrade in the final. However, Graham fancies Athlone to give this a real go, telling the RTÉ Soccer Podcast: "Like we were saying about the Icelandic teams, they're usually big, strong, physical, but Athlone are a really fit team as well this year. "They've really athletic players. I think if you've a good goalkeeper, or a good centre-forward, a good goalscorer, you'll always have a chance. They have both of them. "They've some really good midfield players, like Hannah Waesch, who was excellent in the two games. She picks up really good positions, breaks up a lot of play, picks up a lot of loose balls. "I saw they've made two new signings (Alexis Strickland and Kat Oelschlaeger). "I don't know a whole lot about them but one has come from the same college (ex-Shels player) Maggie Pierce was in and she was obviously a really good standard so you'd expect maybe similar. "I'd imagine if they're signing them they're going to be a really good standard and add to the squad depth they have at the moment." Graham was part of the Raheny United team that reached the last 32 of the Champions League back in 2014. She was also with Shels in 2022 when they lost the Round 1 final to Valur of Iceland over in Slovenia. Breidablik are something of an unknown quantity, but Graham has confidence Athlone have enough about them to at least be competitive. "The fitness levels they have, the pace, the power, I think it's going to suit them going into this Icelandic game," she said. "They'll definitely put it up to them, but it's hard to know. "I tried to get footage of the Breidablik team online and there's nothing really, I could just go off their league table. They're top of the league. "They're not running away with the league but if you look at their goal difference compared to the other teams, they're running away in that sense. "They've played 11 games, they've conceded eight goals and scored 43 goals which is way above other teams.
