Autumn may still be weeks away, but for Starbucks fans, fall is already on the horizon.
The coffee giant announced Monday that its beloved Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) will return to stores nationwide on August 26. While that's slightly later than last year's release, it still arrives earlier than the company's traditional September launch, and nearly a month ahead of the official start of fall on September 22.
The PSL, first introduced in 2003, is crafted with espresso, milk, pumpkin spice syrup, whipped cream, and a dusting of pumpkin pie spices. In 2015, Starbucks began using real pumpkin in the recipe, cementing its reputation as a fall staple and cultural phenomenon.
This year's launch comes at a pivotal moment for Starbucks, which is working to reinvigorate customer traffic and sales after U.S. same-store sales slipped 2% last year. The company hopes the nostalgic appeal of its fall menu can help turn things around.
'These seasonal offerings are cultural touchstones that spark connection, nostalgia, and excitement,' said Tressie Lieberman, Starbucks global chief brand officer, in a statement to CBS MoneyWatch.
What's on Starbucks' Fall 2025 Menu?
In addition to the PSL, Starbucks is bringing back several fan favorites:
Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew
Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai
Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte
There's also a brand-new drink debuting this year: the Pecan Oatmilk Cortado, which Starbucks describes as pairing bold espresso with warm fall flavors.
On the food side, the chain is introducing Italian Sausage Egg Bites as part of its seasonal offerings.
The fall menu rollout supports Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol's Back to Starbucks initiative, launched in 2024 to revive in-store visits and boost sales.
How the Pumpkin Spice Latte Became a Legend
The Pumpkin Spice Latte was born out of a 2003 brainstorming session led by Starbucks product manager Peter Dukes, who sought to replicate the success of the chain's winter hit, the Peppermint Mocha. Originally considered for the name Fall Harvest Latte, the team settled on Pumpkin Spice Latte to emphasize the spice-forward flavor profile.
'Nobody knew at the beginning what it would grow to be,' Dukes reflected in a 20th-anniversary post on the Starbucks website. 'Twenty years later, it's taken on a life of its own.'
Since its debut, the PSL has become Starbucks' most successful seasonal beverage, selling hundreds of millions of cups and inspiring countless imitators. Competitors like Dunkin' and McDonald's rolled out their own pumpkin-flavored drinks in 2007 and 2013, respectively.
The pumpkin spice craze even made its way into the dictionary, with pumpkin spice added to Merriam-Webster in 2022. Mentions of pumpkin spice on U.S. restaurant menus have jumped nearly 34% between 2014 and 2024, according to menu analytics firm Technomic.

Starbucks Korea bans customers from bringing desktops, printers

Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Signs have been posted at Starbucks locations in South Korea informing customers that they will no longer be allowed to set up desktop computers, printers and multi-outlet power strips at the company's cafes. Starbucks Korea posted the notices at all of its branches in the country, and they also state customers will not be allowed to set up large partitions or leave their belongings unattended at tables for long periods of time. The policy targets a group of customers known colloquially as "cagongjok," a term combining the Korean words for "cafe," "study" and "tribe." It refers to customers who spend several hours studying or doing office work in the businesses. They are also sometimes referred to as "cafe squatters." The move comes after numerous complaints from other customers about people taking up too much space with their office equipment. Several photos showing customers with elaborate setups inside cafes have gone viral online. Starbucks Korea said laptops are still allowed inside the cafes and people are still welcome to work or study inside the businesses provided they do not take up an excessive amount of space.

BigBear.ai, Sea, Starbucks: Trending Tickers

(BBAI) stock plunges after the company's second quarter revenue disappointed Wall Street. Sea (SE) stock surges after the company reported record-high quarterly sales. Starbucks (SBUX) stock is in focus after Baird analysts upgraded the stock to Outperform from Neutral, citing optimism on the company's turnaround strategy. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Market Catalysts. Now time for some of today's trending tickers. We are watching Big Bear AI, C, and Starbucks. First up, Big Bear AI shares sinking today. The AI software company reporting revenue for the second quarter that missed the average analyst estimate. The company also lowered its revenue guidance and withdrew its adjusted EBITDA outlook on government contract uncertainty. Still with us, our own Brook DiPalma and those shares down 26%. This sort of echoes the C3 AI uh drop that we saw yesterday. So it's kind of interesting here to see, you know, to see some of the smaller AI players face some uh some uncertainty. Yeah, what we're really seeing play out here is that there are key winners in this environment and key losers. So to say, especially as so many so many investors have really banked on all AI companies benefiting from this AI boom, this revolution, this environment that we're in, but we're seeing that not be the case, especially, we saw perhaps, you know, Google, that company jump on their uh raising their spending forecast. We also saw Microsoft also raise its look outlook around AI. And now hearing a company saying, actually, we're not going to raise our outlook. Actually, you know, we're we're we're taking a bit of a hit here because of those contracts that have not gone underway. That is certainly raising eyebrows for investors here. And that's why we're seeing a bit of a sell off. They are much lower than their 52 week high, which was above $10 in Cantor Fitzgerald saying in a report that secular tailwinds and improved financial flexibility is what the report largely reflects despite near-term execution issues. They And of course, just to reiterate that that uh revenue miss was largely driven by the federal program disruptions related to the US Army's efforts to consolidate its data architecture. And so winners and clear losers in this AI boom here. Yeah, definitely. And next up, let's talk about C, the South Asian e-commerce giant out with earnings as well. Second quarter sales beating analyst estimates, as more Southeast Asia's consumers turned to online shopping for everything from iPhones to daily groceries. And the results are easing some concerns about the prospects of um the e-commerce um uh phenomenon that we're seeing here. Those shares are up by 21%, Brook. Yeah, and and this company's had quite the run. Over the year, the company's stock is up more than 170%. And just year to date, as this has gone underway, the company stock is up more than 60%. It's worth noting too that if we take a look at the Yahoo Finance platform, and we go down to the statistics part of it, if you look at their 52 week high, they're currently trading around 176. So this would be a all all um a year high for the stock as well. And this actually reminded me of a conversation that I recently had with the Anheiser Busch CEO. We did see their Chinese um market under a bit of pressure. And what the CEO actually told me was super interesting and goes along with this trend, is that the consumer in China is staying more at home. That Anheiser Busch Bush actually caters to restaurants and bars there, and they now need to adopt and learn and lean in to this consumer that's more digitally native. And we also saw a company like Luckin Coffee do well there, as they're very digital focused. This customer also leans into heavily in food apps and delivery. And so certainly, we're seeing this company that plays into the e-commerce market with a very digital native consumer win big here and see key returns. Right. Um and finally, squarely in your wheelhouse, Starbucks is getting upgraded at Baird to outperform from neutral. The analyst there says that he has high conviction that turnaround strategies under new leadership will be effective in transforming Starbucks into a better company. You know a lot about this, uh Brook, having spoken to the company, having covered the company in detail because there has been sort of this, you know, uncertainty about how effective all of these efforts were going to be. Yeah, we're certainly continuing to see a sales lump when it comes to the US same-store sales growth for Starbucks. Once again, seeing a sales slump still happening here. But there's been some change in optimism about what exactly CEO Brian Nickel will bring to the table here as he really doubles down on something we just heard Dutch Bros weigh in on, and that's speed and efficiency and quality, and also that value perception. That's something that Brian Nickel believes that it needs to lean more into. And a fun fact here is that tomorrow actually marks one year since Brian Nickel was named the CEO of Starbucks. And so it's interesting timing that we're getting this upgrade um from an analyst here who really is betting on the fact that this will be a better company after it makes all these changes. But I think that the story is still yet to unfold. Of course, a new CFO just joined as well. And so we don't know exactly uh the guidance for the full year. They do expect the second half to be stronger. Um but ultimately, it remains to be seen. The optimism though, on the street, right now, there are 19 buys on the stock, 16 holds and one sell. And so there's a bit of bullishness around Starbucks heading into the second half of the year. Yes. Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, Noodles, Shake Shack, and Bloomin' Brands Stocks Trade Up, What You Need To Know

What Happened? A number of stocks jumped in the morning session after investors cheered a government report showing that inflation remained steady in July. The steady inflation figures have fueled expectations that the Federal Reserve may soon consider an interest rate cut to stimulate the economy, a move that would likely benefit consumer discretionary spending, including dining out. The July Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.7% from a year earlier, meeting the previous month's pace and coming in slightly below economists' expectations of a 2.8% increase. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.2%, a slowdown from the 0.3% increase seen in June. While the cost of dining out continued to climb, rising 0.3% in July, this was offset by a 0.1% dip in grocery prices, contributing to the overall stable inflation picture. The market's positive reaction sent major stock indexes, including the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite, soaring. This optimism spilled over into the restaurant sector, which has been grappling with a challenging macroeconomic environment marked by high costs and concerns over consumer traffic. The stock market overreacts to news, and big price drops can present good opportunities to buy high-quality stocks. Among others, the following stocks were impacted: Traditional Fast Food company Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) jumped 3.4%. Is now the time to buy Starbucks? Access our full analysis report here, it's free. Traditional Fast Food company Krispy Kreme (NASDAQ:DNUT) jumped 5.9%. Is now the time to buy Krispy Kreme? Access our full analysis report here, it's free. Modern Fast Food company Shake Shack (NYSE:SHAK) jumped 3.1%. Is now the time to buy Shake Shack? Access our full analysis report here, it's free. Sit-Down Dining company Bloomin' Brands (NASDAQ:BLMN) jumped 3.6%. Is now the time to buy Bloomin' Brands? Access our full analysis report here, it's free. Zooming In On Noodles (NDLS) Noodles's shares are extremely volatile and have had 81 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today's move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business. The previous big move we wrote about was 5 days ago when the stock gained 3% on the news that the company announced a change in leadership and postponed its second-quarter earnings report. The fast-casual restaurant chain appointed Joseph D. Christina as its new President and CEO, following the resignation of Drew Madsen for personal medical reasons. In conjunction with the leadership news, the company also rescheduled its second-quarter 2025 financial results conference call, pushing it from August 6th to August 13th. The sudden executive change combined with the delayed financial update likely created uncertainty among investors. This news also followed a period where earnings per share estimates experienced several downward revisions. Noodles is up 70.2% since the beginning of the year, but at $1 per share, it is still trading 41.5% below its 52-week high of $1.71 from August 2024. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Noodles's shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $121.36. Unless you've been living under a rock, it should be obvious by now that generative AI is going to have a huge impact on how large corporations do business. While Nvidia and AMD are trading close to all-time highs, we prefer a lesser-known (but still profitable) semiconductor stock benefiting from the rise of AI.
