Lotto family syndicate 'in complete shock' after Euromillions jackpot win
There were celebrations at National Lottery HQ this week as a family syndicate from Co Cork made the trip to Dublin to collect a cheque worth a staggering €500,000.
The group scooped the life-changing sum after winning the EuroMillions Plus top prize in the draw on Tuesday, April 29.
Their all-important Quick Pick ticket was purchased from Lidl on the Mill Road in Youghal.
'We're truly a mix of hopefuls and sceptics. The family syndicate has been running for years, and I'd confidently say we're regular players who've held out for a big win like this!' said the head of the syndicate, beaming with joy.
One member recalled the moment he found out they had the winning ticket.
'It was the day after the draw, and I remembered to check my ticket," they revealed.
"One by one, the numbers started to match, and I just couldn't believe it. I was in complete shock.
"While I've dreamt about the excitement of winning for so long, I carried on my day like normal - it was certainly a delayed reaction when I think back!'
The syndicate plan on putting their fortunes towards a trip around Ireland and Europe to create unforgettable memories, while one member hopes to add solar panels to his home.
A Dublin player was also on hand to claim his prize of €31,778, which he won after matching five numbers plus the bonus in the Lotto draw on April 30.
As someone who often dreams of holding a winning ticket, the Dublin winner was thrilled to see the email notification shortly after the draw.
Choosing to savour the moment, he waited a few days before validating the ticket, leading to a delightful surprise.
Meanwhile, excitement is building ahead of Friday night's EuroMillions draw, which will see one lucky Lotto playerguaranteed to take home €250,000.
The National Lottery is running a series of special EuroMillions Ireland-Only Raffles, which guarantees players a top up in the prize fund for all nine draws, every Tuesday and Friday, throughout the month of May.
Typically, every EuroMillions draw produces ten winners of the €5,000 Ireland-Only Raffle prize, but this month, The National Lottery has created something extra special. In addition to the normal Raffle prize, one winner in each draw in May will win a dazzling €250,000 on top of the usual €5,000 Raffle prize.
