Bednarek labels Lyles 'unsportsmanlike' after post-200m scuffle
Lyles, the three-times world champion in the event, stormed past Bednarek to win in a world leading 19.63 seconds, turning his head to stare down Bednarek as they crossed the line.
Bednarek shoved Lyles in the back before the two exchanged what looked like heated words.
"Noah's going to be Noah. If he wants to stare me down, that's fine," Bednarek told reporters.
"The summary is, don't do that to me. I don't do any of that stuff. It's not good character right there. That's pretty much it. At the end of the day, he won the race. I've got to give him props. He was the better man today.
"What he said didn't matter, it's just what he did," Bednarek added. "Unsportsmanlike (expletive), and I don't deal with that. It's a respect factor. He's fresh. Last time we lined it up, I beat him, that's all I can say. Next time we line up, I'm going to win. That's all that matters."
Sunday's final set the stage for what is sure to be a fiery rematch when the two race again at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Both have also qualified in the 100m, with Lyles also the reigning world champion in that event.
After Bednarek's shove, Lyles turned around and raised his arms to his U.S. rival and bounced up and down like a fighter. Their anger spilled into their trackside interview with NBC.
"I tell ya, if you've got a problem, I expect a call," Bednarek said.
Lyles replied: "You know what, you're right. You´re right. Let´s talk after this."
When asked later about the scuffle, Lyles said: "On coach's orders, no comment."

Nevada court apparently clears way for former Raiders coach Jon Gruden to sue NFL over emails
A Nevada court apparently cleared the way Monday for a 2021 lawsuit filed by former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden to proceed against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell, alleging that a 'malicious and orchestrated campaign' was used to destroy Gruden's career by leaking old emails he had sent that included racist, misogynistic and homophobic comments. In 2022, the NFL appealed to Nevada's high court after a judge in Las Vegas rejected league bids to dismiss Gruden's claim outright or to order out-of-court talks through an arbitration process that could be overseen by Goodell. The Nevada Supreme Court, in a 5-2 ruling, said that 'the arbitration clause in the NFL Constitution is unconscionable and does not apply to Gruden as a former employee.' Gruden's lawsuit alleged that Goodell and the league pressured the Raiders to fire Gruden by leaking emails containing racist, sexist and homophobic comments that Gruden sent, when he was an on-air analyst at ESPN from 2011 to 2018. Gruden resigned from the Raiders in October 2021 and sued the league a month later. The NFL declined to comment on the ruling. Gruden's attorney did not return a phone message seeking comment. Gruden was Raiders head coach when the team moved in 2020 to Las Vegas from Oakland, California. He's seeking monetary damages, alleging that selective disclosure of the emails and their publication by the Wall Street Journal and New York Times ruined his career and endorsement contracts. Gruden coached the Raiders in Oakland from 1998 to 2001, then led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for seven years, winning a Super Bowl title in 2003. He spent several years as a TV analyst for ESPN before being hired by the Raiders again in 2018. He later consulted for the New Orleans Saints in 2023. He is now a part-owner and consultant for the Nashville Kats, a team in the Arena Football One league.

Steelers DT Cameron Heyward willing to miss games in contract dispute
August 12 - Pittsburgh Steelers star defensive tackle Cameron Heyward insinuated Monday that he is willing to sit out some regular-season games to get a better contract. The disgruntled Heyward has been with the team in training camp but recently began sitting out practice sessions amid a hold-in. "My goal is to be out here, and I don't know what's going to happen," Heyward told reporters on Monday. "I've had to be honest with myself to be ready for every option. And has it gone the way I wanted to go? No. "If it did, I would be out there playing and practicing, but I'd like to put this in the rearview mirror and worry about ball and worry about the New York Jets (in) Week 1." Heyward, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, signed a two-year, $29 million extension with the Steelers last September. It keeps him with the team through the 2026 season. Defensive player salaries have spiked upwards and Pittsburgh linebacker T.J. Watt received a three-year, $123 million deal in the offseason with $108 million guaranteed. The $41 million annual average set a record for defensive players. The 36-year-old Heyward wants his piece of the financial pie. "I'm looking to be valued," Heyward said. .".. He will likely warrant heavy Pro Football Hall of Fame consideration after his career ends. Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin isn't overly concerned with the stalemate between Heyward and club management. "It's just a component of big business," Tomlin told reporters. "It's not exclusive to us or to Cam. It's going on in a lot of locations. "The great thing about it is we've had good relations with Cam since he's been here. He's been a heck of a Steeler. We communicate formally and informally.
