Main suspect in NEET-UG paper leak case arrested
Mukhiya was arrested in a midnight operation in Danapur after evading arrest for about 11 months. Earlier this month, the Bihar government had announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh for information leading to his arrest, The Hindu reported.
Nayyar Husnain Khan, the additional director general of the Economic Offences Unit, said that Mukhiya was arrested from an apartment after intelligence inputs about his whereabouts, The Indian Express reported.
Mukhiya is accused of being involved in at least four cases, including the Bihar Teacher Recruitment Exam and the Uttar Pradesh Constable Recruitment Exam, and is being questioned by the police and the Central Bureau of Investigation, Khan told the newspaper.
The Economic Offences Unit had described Mukhiya as the kingpin in the NEET case before it transferred the case to the Central Bureau of investigation in June.
Allegations of question paper leaks and other irregularities in the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test, for admission to undergraduate medical courses, surfaced after the results of the examination were declared on June 4. The examination was conducted on May 5.
So far, 45 persons have been arrested and five chargesheets have been filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the paper leak case, The Hindu reported.
Mukhiya allegedly received the question papers and answer sheets for the medical entrance test on his mobile phone from an unidentified 'professor', The Hindu reported.
The newspaper added that he has allegedly been involved in several exam paper leaks and has been arrested in 2016 for leaking the Bihar Public Service Commission constable recruitment test paper.

Two from Maharashtra arrested in Rs 77-lakh digital arrest scam
The Cyber Crime Police of Chandigarh has arrested two persons from Maharashtra for allegedly duping a city woman of over Rs 77 lakh in a 'digital arrest' scam. The accused have been identified as Sajid Ahmed A Patel (30), and Shayeed Rafiq Mullah (37), who have been booked in a FIR registered on July 15, at the police station in Cyber Crime, Chandigarh. According to the complaint, the victim received a call on July 10 from a fraudster posing as a crime branch official, who alleged her Aadhaar Card had been misused in a money laundering case linked to Jet Airways CEO Naresh Goyal. The caller, along with accomplices posing as police officers, intimidated her with fake arrest warrants and forged Supreme Court orders over WhatsApp calls. Fearing arrest and threats to her family, she transferred Rs 77,42,420, via four RTGS transactions from her accounts in Canara Bank, PNB, SBI, and HDFC. The police traced the trail through bank KYC and telecom data, identifying Patel's role. On August 14, a police team raided locations in Maharashtra, arresting Patel and recovering a Vivo mobile phone with SIMs, a PAN card, and an SBI ATM card. Based on his disclosure, police arrested Shayeed Mullah and recovered two Samsung Fold 5 phones, an Oppo phone, Aadhaar and PAN cards, a Federal Bank ATM card, and a driving licence. Police have secured a lien amount of Rs 20,16,300 in the accused bank accounts. Custody has been sought for forensic analysis of recovered devices to trace the larger nexus.

CBI court sentences Head Constable to seven-year imprisonment in graft case
A special CBI court of Chandigarh Wednesday sentenced a Chandigarh Police Head Constable to seven-year imprisonment in a graft case. The convict, Ram Kumar, a Head Constable, was held guilty under Section 7 as well as Section 13(1) (d) (ii) punishable under Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on the convict. A detailed judgment was yet to be released in the matter. As per the prosecution, the case dates back to 2017 when Ram Kumar, who had been posted as a head constable at Sarangpur police station, was booked by the CBI. Kumar was held in May 2017 by the sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a woman, who was named in an FIR of voluntarily causing grievous hurt. The policeman was caught from a residential area in Sarangpur. The accused was taking the bribe for not taking any action against the woman, whose husband Shiv Nath had already been arrested in the case. The complainant and her husband were booked for assaulting their relative Guru Narayan on March 3. The FIR was registered at the Sarangpur police station and the investigation was being conducted by Kumar. Following all this, Kumar had demanded Rs 18,000 from the complainant but later the deal was struck for Rs 10,000. When Kumar went to take the bribe amount, the CBI sleuths reached the spot and caught the cop and recovered the bribe money from him. During the trial in court, the defence counsel argued that Kumar had been falsely implicated in the case and had no involvement in the matter. The court, however, after hearing the arguments held the accused guilty.

3 workers killed in building collapse in Delhi's Daryaganj; ‘Who will feed his kids?', asks victim's kin
Three labourers were killed after a portion of a three-storey building that was being reconstructed collapsed in Central Delhi's Daryaganj on Wednesday, police said. 'The building, alongside Sadbhavna Park, collapsed. Three workers — Mohammad Jubbair (24), his uncle, Md. Tofir (32), and Gulsagar (30) — died on the spot,' said DCP (Central) Nidhin Valsan. Police said they received a call about the incident around noon. Fire tenders and teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were dispatched to the spot, and the bodies were pulled out from the debris. 'About 10-12 workers were working at the site. Everyone was rescued apart from the three deceased,' said an NDRF personnel. Police said prima facie, the building's wall was structurally weak as it was old, and this may have led to the collapse. 'Further investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause,' said police. The DCP said a case under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS has been registered against the building owners and building contractors. At the site, three to four buildings — packed within metres of each other — were attached to Sadhnavna Park's boundary wall. The park was inaugurated by Delhi L-G V K Saxena and CM Rekha Gupta in June. The entire rear section of the building in the middle had collapsed. Earthmovers were seen clearing the debris. Meanwhile, families of the victims gathered at the Emergency ward of Lok Nayak Hospital, where the bodies were taken. Jubbair leaves behind his wife, who is seven months pregnant. Despite having a BA degree, he came to the Capital from his home in Bihar's Madhepura to work as a labourer — a job he had never done before. His father-in-law said, 'My daughter is pregnant. That's why Jubbair took up the job.' Tofir's aunt, Mehrun Khatun, who was in the city to visit relatives, said, 'He has four children, two girls and two boys. One of the girls is just a year old. Who will feed his children? How will they get an education?' Tofir and Jubbair, relatives said, had left Madhepura in July after an offer came from a contractor to redevelop a building in Daryaganj. For the past week, they had been working on the building, at a meagre Rs 700 per month. Tofir's cousin, Irshad, 18, said, 'Kaam bohot tha, toh unhone mujhe bhi bula liya (There was a lot of work, so they called me too).' He had come to Delhi a week ago and was staying in a cramped room in the Kamla Market area. 'Today morning, Tofir told me I could come to work around 12.30 pm. 12 baje mujhe call aaya ki vo nahi rahe (Around 12, I got a call that he was no more),' Irshad said. Mohammad Zabar, 35, a worker from the Arrah area of Bihar, said he was on the opposite side of the second floor when the collapse occurred. 'I was working on the other side when, suddenly, the section across from me gave way. Toqir and Jubair fell, and a third man ran to grab their hands. Lekin sariya hil gaya tha (But the support beams shook). He also lost his balance and fell,' said Zabar, who was staying on the ground floor of the building temporarily. Several cases of building collapses have been reported in the Capital over the past two months. Last week, seven people were killed when the ceiling and a wall of a dargah near Humayun's Tomb complex in Delhi collapsed.
