Muscat – Oman recorded a 20.6% year-on-year increase in the volume of foreign direct investment by the end of the first quarter of 2025, with total FDI reaching RO30.611bn, according to preliminary data released by National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
FDI flows into the sultanate stood at RO5.225bn during Q1 2025, compared to RO4.111bn in the same period of 2024. The NCSI data showed that the oil and gas sector accounted for 81% of total FDI stock, amounting to RO24.701bn. Inflow into this sector alone stood at RO4.812bn during the first quarter.
The manufacturing sector attracted foreign investments totalling RO2.749bn by the end of Q1 2025, with quarterly inflow of RO592mn. In the financial intermediation sector, FDI reached RO1.3bn, including Q1 inflow of RO217.8mn.
In real estate, rental and commercial project activities sectors, FDI totalled RO653.1mn, representing a 36.8% decline compared to Q1 2024.
The transportation, storage and communications sector attracted RO357.9mn in total investment, with Q1 inflow of RO3.2mn. Investments in the electricity and water sector amounted to RO292mn, a decrease of 11% year-on-year. The trade sector recorded RO262mn in total FDI, with Q1 inflow of RO14.5mn.
FDI in the hotels and restaurants sector reached RO116.6mn by the end of Q1 2025, marking a slight decrease of 0.5% compared to the same period in 2024. The construction sector saw total FDI of RO88.5mn, with Q1 inflow of RO4.9mn.
The UK continued to be the largest foreign investor in Oman, accounting for 50.9% of total FDI. British investments in the sultanate stood at RO15.574bn by the end of the first quarter. The United States followed with RO7.824bn, Kuwait (RO1.22bn), China (RO894mn), the UAE (RO753mn), Qatar (RO669mn), the Netherlands (RO364mn) and India (RO306mn).

The main items of India's exports to Oman during the calendar year 2024 were light oils and preparations; Aluminium oxide other than artificial corundum; Rice; Boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof; Aeroplanes and Other aircraft and spacecraft; Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; Other beauty / make up preparations; Plastic and articles thereof; Iron and Steel; Ceramic products, etc. The main items of India's imports from Oman during the calendar year 2024 were Petroleum oil crude; Liquefied Natural Gas; Urea, including fertilizer grade; Organic chemicals; Anhydrous ammonia; Sulphur, Earth and Stone, Plastering Materials, Lime; Plastic in primary forms.

MUSCAT: Oman's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.82 per cent in June 2025 compared to June 2024, based on the 2018 base year, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The highest price increases were recorded in the personal goods and miscellaneous services group (up 7.45 per cent), transportation (up 3.12 per cent), and restaurants and hotels (up 1.39 per cent). The health group increased by 0.76 per cent, clothing and footwear by 0.6 per cent and education by 0.07 per cent. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose marginally by 0.02 per cent. However, food and non-alcoholic beverages dropped by 0.59 per cent, furniture and household equipment fell by 0.25 per cent, culture and entertainment dipped 0.02 per cent, and tobacco declined by 0.01 per cent. Communication prices remained unchanged. Within food categories, prices of sugar, jam, honey and sweets rose 3.31 per cent, dairy products increased 1.84 per cent, oils and fats climbed 1.65 per cent, and meat and cereals rose slightly. However, vegetable prices fell by 8.06 per cent, seafood by 3.84 per cent, fruit by 0.45 per cent and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.19 per cent. Among the governorates, Al Dakhiliyah recorded the highest inflation at 1.76 per cent, followed by Al Dhahirah (1.57 per cent), Al Sharqiyah South (1.4 per cent), Musandam (1.34 per cent) and Al Wusta (1.22 per cent). Muscat: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the Sultanate of Oman rose by 0.82 percent in June 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, according to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The data showed that the personal goods and miscellaneous services group topped the groups with the highest increase, at 7.45 percent, followed by the transportation group at 3.12 percent, and then the restaurants and hotels group at 1.39 percent. Statistics showed that health group prices rose by 0.76 percent, clothing and footwear prices by 0.6 percent, education prices rose by 0.07 percent, and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuel prices saw a slight increase of 0.02 percent. In contrast, prices of the food and non-alcoholic beverages group decreased by 0.59 percent, and the furniture, household equipment, and maintenance group decreased by 0.25 percent. Prices of the culture and entertainment group decreased by 0.02 percent, and the tobacco group decreased slightly by 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, prices of the communications group remained stable without any change. Regarding food and non-alcoholic beverage prices in June 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, a number of subgroups increased. The food products group not classified as another item topped the list of increases, with a 3.83 percent increase, followed by the sugar, jam, honey, and sweets group, which rose by 3.31 percent, and the milk, cheese, and eggs group, which rose by 1.84 percent. The prices of the oils and fats group also rose by 1.65 percent, the meat group by 0.74 percent, and the bread and cereals group, which recorded an increase of 0.62 percent. While vegetable prices decreased by 8.06 percent, followed by fish and seafood, which decreased by 3.84 percent, fruit prices decreased by 0.45 percent, and non-alcoholic beverages decreased by 0.19 percent. The data showed that Al Dakhiliyah Governorate recorded the highest inflation rate among the Sultanate of Oman's governorates until the end of June 2025, compared to the same period last year, with an inflation rate of 1.76 percent. It was followed by Al Dhahirah Governorate with a rate of 1.57 percent, then South Al Sharqiyah Governorate with a rate of 1.4 percent, Musandam Governorate with an inflation rate of 1.34 percent, and Al Wusta Governorate with a rate of 1.22 percent. Al Buraimi Governorate recorded an inflation rate of 0.83 percent, Muscat Governorate recorded 0.82 percent, North Al Batinah Governorate recorded 0.28 percent, and Dhofar Governorate recorded 0.13 percent. South Al Batinah Governorate recorded the lowest inflation rate of 0.1 percent, while North Al Sharqiyah Governorate witnessed a slight decline in its inflation rate of 0.01 percent.
