
SSMP beats SSTMI to win first MCKK Premier 7's rugby title
The intense final took place at The Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) field, marking a significant milestone for SSMP in the tournament's 13th edition.
The win ended SSTMI's long-standing dominance, with SSMP showcasing disciplined gameplay and exceptional agility.
Muhammad Ammar Zidan Mohd Zaid stood out with a stellar performance, earning him the Zaharuddin Alias Best Player award.
His contributions were pivotal in securing the historic triumph.
Host team MCKK salvaged pride by defeating Japan's Shizuoka Seiko Academy (SSA) 14-7 in the Plate category final.
Though they missed the main final, the victory provided consolation for the home side.
In the battle for third place in the Cup category, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tun Hussein Onn (THOR) edged out Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan King Edward VII (KE VII) with a narrow 10-7 scoreline.
Kolej Vokasional Arau (KVA) emerged victorious in the Bowl category, overcoming Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Hosba (HOSBA) 24-21.
Meanwhile, Maktab Rendah Sains MARA Balik Pulau dominated the Shield category, shutting out Royal Military College (RMC) with a commanding 19-0 win. - Bernama

SSMP edge SSTMI in dramatic Academy Divison final
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Pahang Sports School (SSMP) held their nerve to edge defending champions Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) 12-10 in a nail-biting final to clinch the Super Schools Rugby Academy Division title yesterday (July 20). Tries from Airel Azhar and Ibrahim Bakhtiar and a conversion by Adam Hadafie was was enough to ensure SSMP took home the trophy and RM10,000 prize money. Haikal Ismail scored a try for SSTMI which was converted by Razali Rizal. The latter also converted a penalty. SSMP head coach Yusli Ashan said he could not have asked for more from his players. Airel was also claimed the Most Valuable Player award for the final, which earned him RM500. "This win is the result of the hard work, discipline and teamwork the boys' have put in throughout the season," said Yusli. "I am very proud of this team, especially our younger players who showed extraordinary character in the final. They are the future of Malaysian rugby." SSTMI took home RM5,000 for their efforts this season. Akademi Ragbi Selangor and SMK King Edward VII, rounded out the top-four this season. Super Schools Rugby, organised by Evervive Sdn Bhd, is in its 10th season this year.

Kota Kinabalu: The Datuk Simon Chee Chi Nyen, J.P. Cup Sabah Youth Table Tennis competition will be held at the Kian Kok Middle School Hall in Kota Kinabalu on August 24. Organising chairman Datuk Clement Yeh said the event co-organised by Kota Kinabalu Hokkien Association Youth Section and Alan Table Tennis Club has set a new record in a youth table tennis tournament with the total prize money of RM8,400. Advertisement He urged all schools, table tennis clubs and youth across Sabah to take part in the sport that will help them to build self-confidence and grow stronger towards a brighter future. The six categories to be staged are Boys (U18–U14) – Born 2007 to 2011, Girls (U18–U14) – Born 2007 to 2011, Boys (U13–U11) – Born 2012 to 2014, Girls (U13–U11) – Born 2012 to 2014, Boys (U10 & below) – Born 2015 or later and Girls (U10 & below) – Born 2015 or later. The winning prizes in all the categories are champion: RM600 and medals; 1st runner-up: RM300 and medals, 2nd runner-up (2): RM150 and medals and consolation prize (4): RM50 and medals. Meanwhile, Cup patron and advisor to the Hokkien Youth Section Datuk Simon Chee Chi Nyen, who sponsored the event, said its aim is to raise the standard of table tennis in the State, ignite the competitive spirit among the young players as well as to identify future champions. 'Table tennis is also a sport that benefits both the mind and body. I strongly encourage students to step away from screens and engage in physical activities that build discipline, focus, and confidence,' he added. Registration will open on July 25 at 12 noon and closes at 4pm on August 8. SSTMI Tsunami battle SSMP Falcons for rugby supremacy
KUALA LUMPUR: All eyes will be on Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Pahang (SSMP Falcons) and defending champions Sekolah Sukan Tunku Mahkota Ismail (SSTMI Tsunami) at the Super Schools Rugby Academy Division Grand Final at Taman Ekuestrian Putrajaya tomorrow. Both teams, who have been unbeaten this season, are in contention for the biggest prize purse in the tournament's history, the winners take home RM10,000 and the runners-up get RM5,000. This is nearly double the prize money from the inaugural 2024 edition, also won by SSTMI. SSMP, led by coach Nasrul Hakim, secured their spot in the final after a hard-fought 28–26 win over Akademi Ragbi Selangor. "This final represents the fruits of our hard work throughout the year. Facing SSTMI, a team we deeply respect, makes this occasion all the more meaningful. We are ready to create history for SSMP," said Nasrul. SSTMI, coached by former national captain Syahir Asyraf, booked their berth in the final with a 27–22 victory over SMK King Edward VII. "Every time SSTMI reach the final, we carry a legacy that must be defended. More importantly, we want to demonstrate that school-level development can produce future stars. This match is for the entire Malaysian rugby community," said Syahir.
