It looks like Gavin and Stacey fans will never know what happened on that fishing trip after a star of the comedy put any reboot speculations to bed.
Larry Lamb, who played Mick Shipman on the BBC's hit show for 17 years, said filming the Christmas episode last year was an "extraordinary experience.".
He added: "At the time, we all thought it probably won't be the end, I'm sure we will be doing it again, but gradually what's happened over the months, what I've realised is that was the end."

Lamb said he would always carry a part of Mick with him, and his upcoming tour for his new book, All Wrapped Up, has a Gavin and Stacey theme.

The Christmas episode of the show racked up 19.11 million views, and Lamb said while it was sad it ended, it was a "masterpiece, no doubt about it".
He added: "That scene in the wedding - that's up for the moment of the year.
"It was the way to end this story, you can't keep going on with it. Ruth and James brought it to a grand finale."
While he has moved on to a new chapter (Lamb has written a new book about a film crew in the Caribbean who have a series of problems), he clearly will always have a soft spot for the show, as seen with his new book tour.

"We're starting in Billericay in the reading rooms and we're going to finish in Barry in Marcos' cafe at a date to be arranged," he said.
In between, Lamb will visit several other bookshops and read extracts of his new novel.
"It's an adventure, it is all about a film crew going to a Caribbean island to make a film, and from the minute they set off, things go wrong," he revealed.
"It's letting me show people the inside story of what film and television is all about because that is something I have been asked countless times."

This Hilarious Prime Video Caper Flips the Script on British Crime Drama

You can't move for hit British crime shows right now. Whether it's Dept. Q or Adolescence on Netflix; MobLand on Paramount Plus; or Slow Horses on Apple TV Plus (even if that one's technically more of a spy show), gritty and binge-worthy content is showing up on the best streaming services, all delivered in a vibrant array of British accents. Deep Cover feels like a real crowd-pleaser. Peter Mountain/Metronome Film But a shift is happening. We're about to enter cozy-crime summer, when the genre will get an injection of lighthearted comedy, largely thanks to the much-anticipated adaptation of Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club book series, set to land on Netflix this August. In the meantime, Prime Video is getting in there first with Deep Cover -- an action-comedy that flips the British crime script from serious to silly in the best possible way. In the film, which arrives on Prime Video on June 12, an unlikely trio of improv actors, all of differing skill levels, is recruited as undercover police officers and infiltrates London's underworld, theoretically to bust a drug ring. Needless to say, am-dram chaos ensues. Bryce Dallas Howard plays a failed stand-up comic turned improv teacher who ropes her two most hapless students into the gang: a method actor with delusions of grandeur, played by Orlando Bloom, and a nervy IT office nerd, played by Nick Mohammed. Together the three, nicknaming themselves Bonnie, Roach and the Squire, fudge their way through meetings with gangland bosses, each more intimidating than the next, and somehow manage to find friendship and romance along the way. I went to the film's premiere at SXSW London last week and came away convinced that Deep Cover should be at the top of everyone's watch list this weekend. The combination of comedy and action lands it squarely in crowd-pleaser territory, somewhere between Hot Fuzz and The Fall Guy. Of Deep Cover's three stars, it's Mohammed who has the most established comedy chops and gets the biggest laughs (you'll likely know him best as Nathan Shelley in Ted Lasso -- the kit man who defects to become a rival coach). That's not to say Bloom, who steps somewhat out of his comfort zone in this role, and Howard don't also deliver. The chemistry between the three lead characters keeps you rooting for them long after their "yes, and..." improv approach to undercover work seems to be failing them. The film's director, Tom Kingsley, has also worked on the Bafta-winning TV show Stath Lets Flats (available on Max), which is simultaneously the most Greek and most British piece of television you could ever hope to watch, and which I've long been convinced is a work of significant comic genius. Deep Cover has the same echoes of awkward, almost farcical humor, but with an Amazon-size budget behind it. Still, as Kingsley explained during a Q&A following the premiere, the budget was far smaller than anyone might expect for such a production. Bringing in bona fide Hollywood stars Bloom and Johnson attracted more funding, as did Amazon hopping on board. But the film was reportedly made on something of a shoestring by Hollywood standards. Still, it's easy to see where the injection of cash ended up. Deep Cover's action scenes are sometimes outlandishly slapstick, perfectly befitting of the three clowns at their center, and at times so graphic or high octane that they don't always jell with the overall tenor of the film. It's a minor niggle in the scheme of things, and one that shouldn't deter you. For all its silliness and stunts, Deep Cover is ultimately a heartwarming tale about developing adult friendships at that stage in life when you might feel like the moments for such opportunities have passed. If you're looking for something easy and fun to watch this weekend, then look no further.

King Charles' birthday isn't until November. So why is it being celebrated in June?

Trooping the Colour 2025 will take place in London on Saturday. The annual military parade serves as King Charles III's official birthday celebration. The royal family gathers on the balcony of Buckingham Palace as part of the event. King Charles III was born on November 14, 1948, which means two things: He is among the most famous Scorpios in the world, and you probably wouldn't expect him to be thinking about his birthday in June. But thousands will celebrate the king's birthday in the UK on Saturday at Trooping the Colour, one of the biggest royal events of the year. According to the royal family's website, Trooping the Colour, a massive parade that takes place in June, has been the British sovereign's official birthday celebration for over 260 years. The annual celebration occurs in June, regardless of when the reigning monarch's actual birthday is. The royal family's website says that June is the ideal time to host the parade because the chance of the weather being suitable for outdoor activities in London is high compared to other times of the year. According to History, King George II, who was born in October, was the first monarch to move his birthday pageantry to the summer, but he combined his official celebration with a summer military parade in 1748. The reigning monarch's actual birthday is still publicly acknowledged with a royal gun salute, but the sovereign typically celebrates privately otherwise. During Trooping the Colour, a parade of royals and military personnel travels from Buckingham Palace to the Horse Guards Parade at Whitehall in London. The royal family's website states that the parade includes over 1,400 soldiers, 400 musicians, and 200 horses, and the royals typically ride on horseback or in carriages. The monarch can participate in the event from either carriage or horseback. According to the BBC, Queen Elizabeth II rode a horse during the parade until 1987. Once the parade reaches Whitehall, the monarch formally inspects the troops during the ceremony. Likewise, the chosen Regimental Colour, or flag, is carried through the ranks of participating soldiers before they march back to Buckingham Palace. Thousands of onlookers cheer on the participants as they process. According to an FOIA request to the Ministry of Defence, the 2021 Trooping the Colour cost 59,662 pounds, which would be about $81,000 today. That total includes stable costs, transportation, and fuel, among other fees, though it does not factor in the cost of the police presence required to keep the event safe for the royals and attendees. Trooping the Colour culminates in a flypast by RAF pilots over Buckingham Palace as the royal family watches from the balcony. Trooping the Colour marks one of the few times a year the royal family gathers in one place, so they are always heavily photographed when they appear on the balcony. The occasion offers a chance to see how royals interact with each other, with people analyzing shots of Princess Diana and Prince Harry in years past. Royal children often steal the show when they appear at Buckingham Palace for the event as well. Royals also use the occasion to send a message to the public since it draws so much public interest. For instance, the 2024 Trooping the Colour served as the backdrop for Kate Middleton to make her return to public duty after she announced she was undergoing treatment for cancer in March 2024. She rode to the event in a carriage with her children and waved from the Buckingham Palace balcony with the royal family. The Princess of Wales announced she was in remission in January. Likewise, King Charles appeared at the 2024 Trooping the Colour amid his ongoing weekly cancer treatments, though he rode in a carriage in the parade with Queen Camilla instead of on horseback as a result of his health. The Times reported the monarch will ride in a carriage again for the 2025 event, though Prince William, his heir, and his sister Princess Anne will ride on horseback through the parade. Anne is the king's Gold-Stick-In-Waiting, his ceremonial personal protection officer, at ceremonial events. She first served as her brother's gold stick at his 2023 coronation. The Dutch palace issued an update about the future queen on Wednesday, June 11, stating that the 21-year-old daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima underwent surgery the previous day for a "fracture in her upper arm." "The surgery went well," the palace said in the statement. "She will remain in the UMC Utrecht for monitoring until tomorrow." The Princess of Orange's injury also caused a few changes in the royal schedule, according to the new update. A summer photo session that was set for June 12 at the Paleis Huis ten Bosch was postponed until June 30 due to Princess Catharina-Amalia's hospitalization. In addition, Queen Maxima will miss her scheduled appearance at the CGAP congress in Amsterdam on June 11. On June 10, the palace revealed that the heir to the Dutch throne had fallen from her horse, resulting in a broken arm that required surgery. Princess Amalia's equestrian hobby is a longtime passion, with the palace's official website featuring photos of her riding her horse, Mojito. The U.K.'s Princess Anne was also involved in a horse-related injury just last year. In June 2024, King Charles' sister, 74, was hospitalized with a concussion believed to be caused by an impact with a horse at her home on the Gatcombe Park estate. 'You're jolly you can continue to be more or less compos mentis [of sound mind], and last summer I was very close to not being. Take each day as it comes, they say." Princess Anne is expected to join her family at Trooping the Colour on Saturday, June 14,and is expected to ride on horseback alongside Prince William and Prince Edward.
