Bunty Aur Babli's 'Kajra Re' may be one of those rare songs that refuses to age, but the song received a big thumbs down from the suits at Yash Raj before its release, recalled musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. In a new conversation, Ehsaan Noorani revealed that after an internal evaluation, the song which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, with lyrics by Gulzar, landed on bottom of the list.
The trio have shaped the soundscape of Bollywood for more than two decades. They have scored movies like Dil Chahta Hai (2001), My Name is Khan (2010), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) and Rock On (2008), just to name a few. They have also composed the music for Aamir Khan's upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par and its 2007 prequel Taare Zameen Par. In a recent interview, the trio talked about their Bollywood projects and what all transpires behind the scenes when they are composing an album for a film.
While making an appearance on the YouTube channel Just Filmy Things, the trio shed some light on their previous work. Ehsaan Noorani shared an anecdote about the song Kajra Re from the film Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and how the marketing team of the film initially did not give the song its due. He said, 'They did an internal evaluation about which song from the film will do well, and Kajra Re was at the bottom of the list. A bunch of people from marketing came together and gave feedback after listening to the song. It just so happened that 4 days after the song came out, I was coming out of the Mumbai airport, and a wedding band was already playing 'Kajra Re.'' Ehsaan also talked about how choosing Alisha Chinai to sing the female part of the song was an unprecedented move, but it still elevated the song to a new level.

The trio also talked about the experience of working with Aamir Khan as a collaborator and how he perceives the music while it is being written and recorded. Shankar said, 'He is there all the time, and he is almost like a kid.' One time he called Amitabh Bhattacharya (lyricist) while he was vacationing in Kashmir and told him to rework the lyrics of a song.' The 'Breathless' singer added that many times Aamir will like the rough take of the song more and will decide to keep it in the movie, and that is what happened with 'Maa' from Taare Zameen Par and 'Good For Nothing' from Sitaare Zameen Par. 'If something clicks for Aamir, then nothing can be changed in it.'
Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par will see Aamir play the role of a basketball coach who has been tasked with teaching the game to a group of neurodivergent kids. The cast of the film includes Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh, Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain and Ashish Pendse, among others. The music has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, while the background score and lyrics of the songs are the creation of Ram Sampath and Amitabh Bhattacharya. The film releases on June 20.

Did PK producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra offer Rs 8 crore to stop Akshay Kumar's OMG? Director Umesh Shukla breaks silence

Akshay Kumar 's film OMG – Oh My God! became quite a hit at the box office. Also starring Paresh Rawal in the lead role, the film was highly praised by fans and critics. At that time, there were reports that the film's subject is quite similar to Aamir Khan's PK, and that the producer offered Rs 8 crore to OMG director Umesh Shukla to stop the film. Now, the filmmaker has finally broken his silence on the rumors and dismissed them. In a recent interview with Friday Talkies, OMG director Umesh Shukla said that people spoke about Oh My God's similarities with PK. Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and writer Abhijat Joshi had watched his play on similar subjects. Talking about similar genres, he shared that even if someone is working on a similar subject, there will naturally be some resemblance. He compared it to the romantic genre where 'I love you' is present in all the projects. Umesh further talked about Rs 8 crore rumors and shared, 'Uss time afwah thi ki PK mein Vidhu Vinod Chopra sahab jo the unhone mujhe 8 crore offer kiye the film nahi banane ke liye. Par wo sab afwayein thi. Aesa kuch hua nahi tha.' (At that time, there were rumors that Vidhu Vinod Chopra sir, who was part of PK, had offered me Rs 8 crores to not make the film. But those were just rumors. Nothing like that actually happened). He also added, 'Wo apne aap mein itne talented log hai. Rajkummar Hirani sahab, Abhijat, Vidhu Vinod Chopra sahab, Aamir Khan sahab, sab log itne talented hai ki wo itni unchi harkat karte hi nahi the paisa dene ke liye. Yeh sab uchli thi uss samay par aisa kuch nahi tha.' (They are all incredibly talented individuals—Rajkumar Hirani sir, Abhijat, Vidhu Vinod Chopra sir, Aamir Khan sir—they are way above doing something like that, offering money to stop a film. These were just talks that floated around back then, but there was no truth to it). Earlier, Pinkvilla exclusively reported that OMG 2 director Amit Rai is gearing up for the film Oh My Dog, which will be an adorable story about kids and dogs. A fresh star cast to be featured and even Pankaj Tripathi might have a cameo in it.

Housefull 5 Day 8 India Box Office: Akshay Kumar led comic-caper adds Rs 5.75 crore to tally on 2nd Friday

The Akshay Kumar-led comic caper, Housefull 5, directed by Tarun Mansukhani, wrapped up its first week at the India box office with a decent Rs 114.40 crore. The film, backed by Sajid Nadiadwala and co-starring Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, and a host of other actors, added an alright Rs 5.5-6 crore on 2nd Friday, to take the 8 day cume to Rs 120.15cr net. Let's dig deep into the theatrical performance of Housefull 5 so far. After a promising start last Friday, June 6, 2025, Housefull 5 saw robust growth over the opening weekend, capitalizing on the festive boost from Bakri Eid. The weekdays, however, saw a noticeable dip, putting the long run of the movie in jeopardy. The movie has stabilised a little on Friday but exponential second weekend growth is very important since it will become the second most preferred Bollywood movie option from the coming Friday, when Sitaare Zameen Par releases. By the end of the weekend, the total of Housefull 5 should exceed Rs 140 crore at least. Housefull 5's day-wise net collections in India are as under:- Housefull 5's global performance has also been reasonable, grossing Rs 180 crore worldwide in its first week. Most likely by Sunday morning, Housefull 5 will have entered the Rs 200 crore worldwide club. Given the movie's steep budget, it requires Rs 275 crore worldwide to just breakeven. If the movie fails to hit this number, the producers will lose money on the movie. At Rs 325-350 crore worldwide, the movie can be declared a hit; but that looks very unlikely. The only positive out of the performance of Housefull 5 is that Akshay Kumar has regained his ability to open his films to reasonably good numbers. Since Sooryavanshi, almost every movie of the actor took a low or poor opening. It is with Housefull 5 that Akshay Kumar has regained the ability to pull crowds. A dwindling audience

Tmidst the glitz and spectacle of the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), one topic weighed on the minds of most film industry stakeholders—the current crisis in the theatre business. 'I have always believed that India has too few theatres, given the size of the country and [number of] people,' actor Aamir Khan said at a session. 'Our biggest theatre hits have had footfalls of 30-35 million. That's 2 per cent of our population in what is a cinema-loving country.' Seated next to him was Ajay Bijli, founder of PVR Cinemas and managing director of country's biggest multiplex chain, PVR INOX Ltd. Bijli replied in jest, 'Main office jaata hoon [I better head to office to get work done].'
