The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is disrupting the AI education landscape with the launch of its first-ever undergraduate program. Unlike traditional AI curricula, this Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence program blends core AI expertise with leadership, entrepreneurship, industry experience, and real-world impact.
MBZUAI's undergraduate program is innovative and multidisciplinary as it will equip students with a strong foundation in AI fields such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics, and provide cross-disciplinary training in business, finance, industrial design, market analysis, management, and communication. Students will benefit from a hands-on experiential curriculum to develop an entrepreneurial mindset to lead AI transformations. The goal is to develop visionary thinkers and multi-faceted problem-solvers who will lead the AI evolution globally.
His Excellency Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of MBZUAI's Board of Trustees, stated: 'This undergraduate program will play a transformative role in fulfilling our leadership's vision of ensuring that the UAE continues to lead in AI research, application, and commercialization to drive innovation, economic growth, and societal progress. It will equip the next generation of homegrown talent with deep technical expertise and an understanding of AI's broader impact. In doing so, it will strengthen the nation's ability to foster a skilled workforce capable of driving AI advancements that benefit not only our country and the region but the world.'
Beyond the core technical AI skills, MBZUAI is committed to shaping the next generation of AI innovators, developers, managers, and visionaries. This comprehensive program equips them with the leadership acumen, financial and legal fundamentals, and essential human skills such as management, communication, and critical thinking that are crucial for driving the future of AI development and deployment.
MBZUAI's new undergraduate program embraces a co-pilot education model, which integrates AI into every aspect of the student educational journey. AI will assume a central role in the student learning experience, enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving skills and preparing students to excel in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.
The curriculum will cover advanced topics such as deep learning, generative AI, and AI for science, alongside business and entrepreneurial training. Students will also explore cutting-edge areas such as AI for health and medicine, AI for sustainable living, and 3D vision and mixed reality. They will have the opportunity to work with true global leaders across all domains of AI and gain unparalleled hands-on experience with the teams who develop state-of-the-art large language models including MBZUAI's world-leading JAIS, the world's most advanced Arabic LLM, and K2, the only third-party reproducible LLM to outperform major private sector models.
MBZUAI President and University Professor Eric Xing emphasized the university's forward-thinking approach: 'Our undergraduate program will be the first of its kind, as it integrates AI education with entrepreneurship, problem-discovery, and key skills for a product journey. Cross-disciplinary training and hands-on learning will be the cornerstone of the program. Students will embrace the humanities, business and a liberal arts curriculum, as they work well outside the bounds of classic computer science and STEM. Furthermore, they will engage in co-operative industry placements, internships, mentorships, and partnerships with top players in industry and AI research.
Professor Xing added, 'Our students won't just be taught theory and programming. They will graduate with critical understandings of society and people, of markets and the economy, and the practical experience and confidence to drive and lead AI initiatives, whether within established companies or through their own entrepreneurial ventures. We're focused on preparing our graduates for the rapidly changing landscape of AI.'
MBZUAI's program offers two distinct streams: a Bachelor of Science in AI – Business, which focuses on business integration and entrepreneurship, and a Bachelor of Science in AI – Engineering, which centers on AI model development and deployment across the breadth of AI, and real-world applications in different sectors.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) launched a training workshop titled 'Book Criticism Workshop,' which will be held in Jordan under the Dubai International Program for Writing (DIPW), one of MBRF's flagship initiatives. The workshop aligns with DIPW's objective to nurture Arab talents, refine their skills, and prepare them to actively develop and disseminate knowledge. The key goal of the workshop is to develop participants' capabilities, further enhancing their reading and writing proficiency in literary narration and criticism. The workshop has been designed to equip talents with tools to master four levels of reading: elementary, inspectional, analytical, and Syntopical reading. Furthermore, the workshop aims to refine participants' writing performance across diverse forms, from artistic summaries and book reviews to article and report writing, while guiding them in preparing study outlines, drafting research papers, and authoring books using a methodical and well-structured approach. Dr. Jamal Maqableh, workshop instructor and professor of Arabic literature and criticism at the Hashemite University in Jordan, said: 'This motivational workshop is a part of MBRF's constant efforts to empower and support literature enthusiasts. It offers the younger generation an exceptional opportunity to develop their skills and broaden their intellectual horizons, which will further enable them to reach higher level of skill and creativity. In addition to offering a set of useful tools and techniques, the workshop provides an opportunity to interact with authors, writers, and literary figures and gain insights from their experience and knowledge, which will help them better differentiate between different literary forms, genres, and fields as well as different levels, styles, and orientations of writers.' This edition of the workshop is unique in incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek, which are now prominent for their capability to accelerate recall, documentation, and text generation, despite these technologies' inability to perform deep critical analysis. These tools help reduce workload by managing a significant portion of preliminary tasks, enabling researchers to work at a more advanced level. This ensures that investing in these capabilities can redefine the boundaries of intellectual creativity in the AI era. The workshop encompasses reading books, presentations, discussions, debates, follow-ups, and viewing and listening to relevant recordings. Moreover, it aims to equip participants with the requisite skills for deep reading and precise writing through an integrated training regimen that progresses through successive stages, from comprehension to critical evaluation. Additionally, the workshop focuses on training participants in diverse critical methodologies, including classical criticism and contemporary movements, as well as expanding the study of literary theory, the philosophy of criticism, and its multiple applications. In addition, the workshop provides participants with exceptional opportunities to hone their skills in text summarization and analysis, as well as in writing articles, reports, critical reviews, and research proposals, while adhering to linguistic, stylistic, and organizational standards. The workshop also includes hands-on training in using AI throughout all stages of reading and writing, not to mention fostering the development of a 'productive dialogue' between humans and machines. This integrated approach not only enhances the participants' abilities to engage with texts but also helps reshape the dynamic between readers and texts in the digital era. Moreover, the workshop prioritizes reading and critiquing books, presentations, and studies, particularly emphasizing the works of Emirati and GCC authors. It also explores contemporary literary and intellectual topics tied to cultural transformations in the Arab world. At the workshop's conclusion, participants will submit their works, which include articles, studies, reports, and research, all of which will be fully developed, refined, and prepared for publication through both individual and collaborative efforts.

San Francisco, US, May, 2025 – Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has expanded its global footprint with today's launch of its Institute of Foundation Models (IFM). The IFM is a multi-site initiative consisting of a newly established Silicon Valley Lab in Sunnyvale, CA, combined with previously announced lab facilities in Paris and Abu Dhabi. Today's launch event, taking place at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, establishes the third node in its global research network. This strategic expansion connects the university with California's vibrant ecosystem of AI researchers, startups, and tech companies. For the UAE and MBZUAI, this move represents another strategic step in the country's long-term economic diversification plan. By investing in cutting-edge technologies like advanced AI foundation models, the UAE continues to build knowledge-based sectors to support its long-term economic and social transformation efforts. 'Today's launch of the IFM represents a major step forward for the collaboration and global development of frontier-class AI foundation models,' said Professor Eric Xing, President and University Professor, MBZUAI. The launch event drew representatives from the world's leading AI companies and academic institutions, highlighting the growing interest in MBZUAI's global approach to foundation model research. World Models: Building More Adaptable AI Through Simulation At the heart of MBZUAI's demonstrations was PAN, a world model capable of infinite simulations of diverse realities ranging from basic physical interactions to complex agent scenarios. Unlike previous systems focused primarily on generating text, audio, or images, PAN predicts comprehensive world states by integrating multimodal inputs like language, video, spatial data, and physical actions. This enables advanced reasoning, strategic planning, and nuanced decision-making for applications from autonomous driving to robotics. PAN's innovative hierarchical architecture supports multi-level reasoning and real-time interaction within simulations, maintaining high accuracy over extended scenarios. Its companion, PAN-Agent, showcases its utility in multimodal reasoning tasks, such as mathematics and coding, within dynamic simulated environments. K2 and JAIS: Advanced Foundation Models with Global Impact The IFM lab is also advancing two flagship AI systems demonstrating our commitment to further advance frontier-class foundation models: K2 and JAIS. A soon to be released update to K2-65B will focus on delivering breakthrough reasoning capabilities with sustainable performance. With advanced reasoning K2 will further enhance its capabilities in mathematical problem-solving, code generation, and logical analysis while requiring fewer computational resources than many comparable models. JAIS stands as the world's most advanced Arabic large language model. This open-sourced system addresses the underrepresentation of non-English languages in AI, covering Modern Standard Arabic, regional dialects, Hindi, and other languages while maintaining cultural authenticity. At the IFM JAIS will continue to expand in capability with increased language support and add more context to preserve and promote the cultures it supports. Building AI in the Open: Transparency as a Core Value MBZUAI has established one of the industry's most transparent approaches to AI development, open-sourcing not just models but entire development processes—positioning IFM as a leader in building openly. The LLM360 initiative provides researchers with complete materials including training code, datasets, and model checkpoints.
