Mahedi Hasan Breaks Harbhajan Singh's 13-Year-Old T20I Record

Mahedi Hasan played the starring role in Bangladesh's historic T20I series win over Sri Lanka.
Mahedi Hasan produced a match-winning effort with the ball to help Bangladesh create history on Wednesday. Alongside Tanzid Hasan, Mahedi combined to guide Bangladesh to a historic T20I series win over Sri Lanka with an emphatic eight-wicket victory in the final match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Mahedi finished with match figures of 4/11 from four overs and thus created a new record of best bowling performance at the venue in a T20I, surpassing the previous benchmark of 4/12 set by India legend Harbhajan Singh at the 2012 T20 World Cup.
This victory marks Bangladesh's first-ever T20I series win against Sri Lanka, achieved with ease as they chased down 133 with 21 balls to spare.
On a sluggish pitch, Mahedi triggered Sri Lanka's collapse with a remarkable spell of spin bowling, achieving career-best figures and dismantling the middle order after the hosts lost early wickets.
Pathum Nissanka tried to anchor the innings with a steady 46 off 39 balls, but Sri Lanka slumped to 94 for 6 by the 15th over. Dasun Shanaka's late burst of 35 not out from 25 balls, including 22 runs in the final over, pushed the total to 132 for 7, but it was not enough.
Bangladesh effortlessly pursued the target despite losing Parvez Hossain Emon on the first ball of the innings. Tanzid then took control with a brilliant display of power-hitting and timing, remaining unbeaten with 73 off just 47 deliveries, including six sixes.
He received solid support from Litton Das, who added 32 before his dismissal in the ninth over. Towhid Hridoy joined Tanzid, and the pair put together an unbroken 59-run partnership to comfortably steer the visitors to victory in 16.3 overs.
Sri Lanka's bowlers struggled to exert pressure after the early breakthrough, with both spinners and seamers unable to stem the flow of runs. The loss concluded the series on a disappointing note for the hosts, who had won the opening match but failed to maintain their momentum.

Stokes didnt need to bowl Brook and look silly in the end: Nasser Hussain

Manchester, Jul 27 (PTI) Former England captain Nasser Hussain termed Ben Stokes' decision to bring Harry Brook into the attack after India declined his offer to end the fourth Test early as 'silly", stating that Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar fully deserved their centuries. Jadeja and Washington were batting on 89 and 80 respectively before the start of the last hour of play when England skipper Ben Stokes, aware that a result was out of reach, offered to shake hands. However, with milestones around the corner, the Indian batters refused, which didn't amuse Stokes, who then introduced Brook into the attack to bowl some deliberate full-tosses, allowing both to complete their well-deserved tons. 'I didn't have a problem with it. England seemed to have a problem with it. They were a bit tired, tired bowlers so they wanted to get off but two lads worked hard to get to 80s and 90s and they wanted to get Test match hundreds," Hussain said on 'Sky Sports'. 'Stokes didn't have to bowl Brook and look silly at the end. We make far too much of these things. They played well and all credit to India," Hussain said. When Cheteshwar Pujara asked the same question to Washington Sundar, he sidestepped the issue. 'I think everyone saw on TV what happened and they all must have enjoyed it," Washington said on JioHotstar. Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar felt that Indian batters were well within their rights to continue unless there was an agreement prior that match will be called off before start of last hour of play. 'I think Ben Stokes in the end behaved like a spoilt kid," Manjrekar said on 'JioHotstar'. 'I would like to see what England would have done if two of their batsmen were nearing Test hundreds?" Jasprit Bumrah & Rishabh Pant OUT, 4 Players IN! India's Likely Playing XI For 5th Test

The fifth Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and England will be played at The Oval in London from July 31 to August 4. The fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England will be played at The Oval from July 31 to August 4. For the match starting on Thursday, Indian team management could make at least four changes to the playing XI. Rishabh Pant suffered a foot injury on Day 1 of the fourth Test in Manchester, and because of that reason, he will miss the game in London. In his place, Dhruv Jurel is all set to get a chance to play as a wicketkeeper-batter. World No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah was supposed to play three Tests in England, and he has already played three out of the first four matches, which means he will also skip the game at The Oval as part of his workload management. Akash Deep was Bumrah's replacement in India's playing XI for the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, and once again, in all likelihood, he will replace him for the final Test of the series. Akash Deep missed the fourth Test in Manchester due to an injury. In the game at Old Trafford, which ended in a draw, Shardul Thakur and Anshul Kamboj replaced Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy in the playing XI, but both of them failed to make any impact with the ball. Their poor show with the ball could make the Indian team management bring Kuldeep Yadav back into India's playing XI after more than nine months and also hand a maiden Test cap to left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep, who is India's highest wicket-taker in T20Is, was in line to play in Manchester as well, but he missed out due to an injury that he suffered in the practice session. India are unlikely to make changes in the top four, and the centuries by Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar in the second innings of the drawn match at Old Trafford are also a big boost for India, as they now could play with four specialist bowlers rather than going with three bowlers and including one all-rounder. India's likely playing XI for the 5th Test in Manchester: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (C), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
