Mahedi Hasan Breaks Harbhajan Singh's 13-Year-Old T20I Record
Mahedi Hasan produced a match-winning effort with the ball to help Bangladesh create history on Wednesday. Alongside Tanzid Hasan, Mahedi combined to guide Bangladesh to a historic T20I series win over Sri Lanka with an emphatic eight-wicket victory in the final match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Mahedi finished with match figures of 4/11 from four overs and thus created a new record of best bowling performance at the venue in a T20I, surpassing the previous benchmark of 4/12 set by India legend Harbhajan Singh at the 2012 T20 World Cup.
This victory marks Bangladesh's first-ever T20I series win against Sri Lanka, achieved with ease as they chased down 133 with 21 balls to spare.
On a sluggish pitch, Mahedi triggered Sri Lanka's collapse with a remarkable spell of spin bowling, achieving career-best figures and dismantling the middle order after the hosts lost early wickets.
Pathum Nissanka tried to anchor the innings with a steady 46 off 39 balls, but Sri Lanka slumped to 94 for 6 by the 15th over. Dasun Shanaka's late burst of 35 not out from 25 balls, including 22 runs in the final over, pushed the total to 132 for 7, but it was not enough.
Bangladesh effortlessly pursued the target despite losing Parvez Hossain Emon on the first ball of the innings. Tanzid then took control with a brilliant display of power-hitting and timing, remaining unbeaten with 73 off just 47 deliveries, including six sixes.
He received solid support from Litton Das, who added 32 before his dismissal in the ninth over. Towhid Hridoy joined Tanzid, and the pair put together an unbroken 59-run partnership to comfortably steer the visitors to victory in 16.3 overs.
Sri Lanka's bowlers struggled to exert pressure after the early breakthrough, with both spinners and seamers unable to stem the flow of runs. The loss concluded the series on a disappointing note for the hosts, who had won the opening match but failed to maintain their momentum.

Bumrah is fit to bowl as per his workload
London, Jul 29 (PTI) India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak did not rule out Jasprit Bumrah's participation in the series deciding fifth Test against England, saying 'he is fit as per his load." Injury-prone pace spearhead Bumrah was earmarked for three Tests on the tour as part of his workload management but with the series on the line, he could play a fourth one. After a dramatic draw at Manchester, head coach Gautam Gambhir also did not rule out the possibility of Bumrah featuring in the crunch game. Kotak reiterated that on Tuesday. 'Bumrah is fit now according to his load. He has bowled one inning in the last match. So that obviously head coach, our physio and captain they will have a discussion and decide. There has been no discussion," Kotak said two days before the game. At Old Trafford, Gambhir had also confirmed that all his pacers were fit, meaning that Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep have recovered from injuries. Asked about the workload of Mohammed Siraj, who is the only Indian pacer to play all games, Kotak gave a detailed answer. 'So, I don't know what you guys think about the actual workload. So, if I tell you quickly, before the Test series, if a bowler puts in a certain amount of overs per week, that if he's preparing for T20 and putting in 20 overs, 25 overs, 6 overs every day, or putting in 6 overs for five days, that is good enough workload for T20. 'They have a GPS. It shows the record of how many overs the bowler has put in throughout the week. And they're in constant touch with the bowling coach. So, the build-up of the last 4-5 weeks, you need to determine if that there's no spike in it. 'So, what's the spike? If a bowler is putting in 30 overs per week, and suddenly, in the first innings, he's put in 35 overs, then that's the spike in his load. So, the number of overs that Siraj is putting in every week, it's not necessary that it's due to practice. 'That load is due to the match as well. So, then, another thing depends on whether Siraj himself, or the physios, or his body feels that, no, I'm tired. Then, they will think about the load. Otherwise, his bowling load is very high, is very good. So, there's no chance of a spike in it," added Kotak. Indian Coach's Big Reveal: 'Oval Curator Shouted At Indian Support Staff'
India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak revealed that The Oval head groundsman Lee Fortis shouted at India's support staff over a cooling box near the pitch, angering Gautam Gambhir. India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has revealed that The Oval head groundsman Lee Fortis 'shouted' at the visiting support staff over their decision to place a cooling box near the pitch. Kotak said this was one of the things that angered head coach Gautam Gambhir, leading to finger-pointing and abuse directed at Fortis. Gambhir can be heard telling Fortis, 'F**** you, go complain to whoever you want. You are just a groundsman. Stay in that capacity', during India's optional training session at the ground, two days before the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy begins here on July 31. Kotak said Fortis was quite possessive about the pitch but maintained that India weren't breaking any norms and were too experienced to do that. 'No, when he was bringing the cooling box there, he was sitting on the roller, he shouted and told the support staff not to take it there. Now the weight of that cooling box will be 10 kilos, according to me. It will not be more than that. And what we are doing there," Kotak said in the press conference. 'So, it is good to be a little possessive, and it is also good to be protective, but not that much. So, then Gautam just said that do not talk to the support staff like this, because the support staff, we all come under the head coach. Any head coach will say that you cannot shout from there and say this," he added. Fortis reportedly threatened to lodge a formal complaint about Gambhir. India, on their part, have denied any such consideration. Kotak also suggested that this wasn't the first time a team was involved in such an incident with Fortis. 'So, it was very normal. Then he came there, and he was saying, I think it got built up from the wicket when we were watching. And to be very, very honest, if you want me to be very honest, before coming to Oval, most of the team knows that the curator is not the easiest person to get on with. And I am sure you also would be aware of it. So, that gives a lot of answers. No, I do not think there is any point in complaining," he said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Classless Gesture From Ben Stokes': Ex-England Star Hits Out At Skipper After Handshake Controversy
Former spinner Monty Panesar has criticised England captain Ben Stokes, stating that his gesture was "classless" when he forcefully tried to call a draw during the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford in Manchester. The incident unfolded on the final session of the fourth Test when Stokes tried to persuade Ravindra Jadeja to shake hands and call it a draw, but the Indian all-rounder refused to do so and went on to score his fifth Test century. His batting partner on the crease, Washington Sundar, also completed his maiden Test hundred. The duo was involved in an unbeaten 203-run stand that brought India back in the game after being reduced to 222/4 just before lunch in their second innings. Reflecting on Stokes' action in the middle, the veteran cricketer lashed out at him and said their rude behaviour is one of the reasons why people hate England. "Well, it lacked class. It was being, in England, we're being a bit pompous as well, so it didn't reflect good on them as well. They're good ambassadors of cricket, but I suppose you can see the reasons why people hate England because of the way they behave. That was a very classless gesture from Ben Stokes (on handshake controversy)," Panesar told IANS on Tuesday. After the unwanted incident, both Jadeja and Sundar completed their respective centuries and shook hands with the English players to call it a draw after a remarkable fightback from Indian batters, including KL Rahul (90), captain Shubman Gill (103) and the two all-rounders. England currently hold a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series, but India have a chance to draw level by winning the final Test at The Oval in London, starting Thursday.
