Arkansas police say suspect admitted killing couple hiking with daughters
Clinton, 43, and Cristen Brink, 41, were found dead on Saturday on a walking trail at Devil's Den state park. Their daughters, seven and nine, were not hurt and are being cared for by family members, authorities have said.
State police arrested Andrew McGann on Thursday after a five-day search and a flood of tips. He was captured in Springdale, a city about 30 miles (50km) north of Devil's Den.
McGann 'did indicate that he committed the murders', Maj Stacie Rhoads, commander of the state police's criminal investigation division, said at a news conference. 'I would call it an admission.'
Police said they matched McGann's DNA to blood found at the crime scene.
Arkansas state police colonel Mike Hagar said investigators were trying to determine a motive for the attack but have no reason to believe McGann knew the couple or their children.
'In my 27 years that I've been with the state police, this is probably one of the most heinous that we've had, especially the aspect of just how random it was,' Rhoads said.
McGann has been charged with two counts of capital murder. He made his first appearance on Friday before an Arkansas judge, who ordered McGann to be held in jail without bond, assigned him a public defender, and scheduled his arraignment for 25 August.
Local prosecutor Brandon Carter indicated the state would give a jury the option to sentence McGann to the death penalty.
The Brinks had just moved from South Dakota to the small city of Prairie Grove in north-west Arkansas. Their water had been connected less than two weeks ago, Prairie Grove mayor David Faulk said.
Clinton Brink had been scheduled to start a job as a milk delivery driver Monday in the nearby Fayetteville area, according to Hiland Dairy, his employer. Cristen Brink had been licensed as a nurse in Montana and South Dakota before moving to Arkansas.
Officials said Clinton Brink was stabbed first, then Cristen Brink ushered her children to safety before returning to help her husband. She was also stabbed to death.
Authorities have not said if the girls witnessed their parents being killed.
The Brink family said the couple died 'heroes protecting their little girls'.
The Springdale public school district in north-west Arkansas said it had hired McGann for the upcoming year but that he had not yet had contact with families or students.
He has active teaching licenses with no infractions or suspensions in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma, according to government certification websites.

City manager filmed trying to fire cop after being pulled over for speeding
An angry Oklahoma lawmaker was filmed trying to fire a police officer after being pulled over for speeding. Konawa City Manager Daniel Bruton launched into a tirade after he was stopped by a local police officer on July 14 for racing his truck down the road. The bodycam footage showed the officer, only identified as Johnathan, pulling up behind Bruton's car as he stood on the road and screamed: 'I'm trying to get the water back on.' SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO Bruton, 52, later revealed he was on his way to a water emergency in the city, but the officer continued with the traffic stop. 'OK, but let's slow down. Let's do it safely,' the officer told Bruton. 'This is my job, this is what I was hired to do.' 'Well, this is my job and I'm your boss! And I'm in a hurry,' Bruton replied. 'It doesn't matter, you have to obey the law like everybody else,' the officer said as Bruton went threatened him: 'You're about to not have a job.' He then got back in his truck and continued to scream at the officer. 'Now, go get your a** back in the truck and go back to town,' he said, still pointing his finger at the officer. 'I'm trying to be respectful here,' the cop said as Bruton cut him off and shouted: 'I'm not being respectful!' After his outburst, the officer let Bruton leave - but that was not the last he saw of the city manager. Bruton found the officer back at the station, where he continued to tell the cop off. Further body cam footage showed Bruton in the doorway of the police station continuing to complain and threaten the officer. 'So, when these firemen and police officers are in a hurry to get somewhere - they're speeding. I was in a hurry to get somewhere,' Bruton said, adding: 'So, let me tell you something. When I got out of the truck and told you there was a water emergency, that's when you should've ended it.' The officer responded: 'OK, not gonna end it right there. Listen to me, just because you're city manager...' Bruton responded: 'I'm not saying that. I had a water emergency, OK? I promise you. me driving 35mph up a 25mph road is not that big a deal to me when the people in Konawa don't have no water. 'I'll explain this to you and I'll explain this to Bryan. If you have a problem with that, then you might as well pack your s*** and head out the door right now.' 'Listen to me,' the officer said before Bruton shouted: 'I'm not gonna listen to you! I'm your boss! You do what I say.' 'It doesn't matter, you can't break the law like that,' the cop responded. 'People break the law! If you got a problem with it then write me a f***ing ticket and then I'll deal with you in there,' Bruton went on. The city manager then called someone to inform him he was going to fire the cop 'right now', adding that the officer 'still continued to run his mouth with me'. The video ended with Bruton storming off after the officer said 'we're done'. Bruton later told News4 he was 'ashamed' and 'embarrassed' of his actions that day. He told the outlet: 'He just caught the brunt of that from a situation that day. I didn't mean anything towards him. He does a good job and I apologized to him, and I'm making a public apology to him now. 'I'm embarrassed by it, I'm ashamed of it. My family, I put them in this and I'm ashamed that the city had to even endure it. So I'm hoping that we can get past it and I can grow from it as well.' Despite his apology, locals are livid with the way Bruton acted that day, with some calling for his resignation. 'He was only embarrassed and ashamed when it was made public we still need a new city manager,' one wrote on Facebook. Another commented: 'It's funny how he's embarrassed now that the whole world can see what an absolute jerk he is. What a pathetic excuse for a human!'

Creepy new videos show quadruple murder suspect Austin Drummond stalking streets and trying door with rifle in hand
HAUNTING security footage shows armed murder suspect Austin Drummond stalking a neighborhood and trying to get into buildings. Drummond is a wanted man as part of a probe into the deaths of four family members - whose remains were discovered hours after a baby girl was found abandoned on a random driveway. 6 6 He was named a suspect just one day after the victims were identified. The search for Drummond has been ongoing since July 31 and Jackson, Tennessee, cops have released footage of him stalking a neighborhood. In the footage from August 3, Drummond is armed with a rifle, sporting camouflaged gear, and wearing an orange backpack. In one clip, he's seen trying the door handle of the Cornerstone Community Church in Jackson. Cops found a white 2016 Audi Drummond was believed to have been driving in the Jackson area. Jackson is around 45 miles from Tigrett - an area in Dyer County where the baby was found abandoned. A 1988 Ford pickup truck investigators were looking for was found in Dyer County. In another video released by cops, Drummond was seen in an area, which looked to be at the back of a building. He comes into shot and appears to make a hand gesture. John Muffler, a former US Marshal, analyzed the videos and told NewsNation that it's possible someone may have been helping Drummond. Family 'killer' Austin Drummond 'has left state' as 3rd person arrested for 'helping him' & his cushy jail life revealed Drummond is an alleged member of The Vice Lords - one of the oldest street gangs in Chicago. A white car can be seen in the background of one of the videos. In the footage, Drummond was also seen stalking driveways and loitering near a children's playground. Tennessee investigators have arrested three people as part of their probe. Tanaka Brown and Giovontie Thomas have been both charged with accessory after the fact to first degree murder. Dearrah Sanders has now been accused of helping Drummond. It's not known how Sanders allegedly helped Drummond. As the search for Drummond ramps up, law enforcement combed a woodland area near Union University in Jackson. A helicopter circled overhead and law enforcement teams present at the scene were state troopers and SWAT officials. A school, located one mile away from the campus, was put on lockdown, as reported by CNN. But, no children were inside the building as term doesn't start until Thursday. Quadruple murders timeline Tuesday, July 29: A 7-month-old baby girl was found abandoned in a car seat in the front yard of a residence in Tigrett, Dyer County, Tennessee, at around 3 pm. Wednesday, July 30: Investigators identify the victims as: Matthew Wilson, 21, (the baby's father) Adrianna Williams, 20 (the baby's mother) Cortney Rose, 38, (the baby's grandmother) Braydon Williams, 15, (the baby's maternal uncle) Thursday, July 31: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation name Austin Drummond, 28, as a suspect in the quadruple homicide. Friday, August 1: Cops locate Drummond's damaged Audi A3 abandoned on a road in Jackson. Tanaka Brown has been arrested and is accused of being an accessory to first degree murder after the fact and tampering with evidence. Saturday, August 2: Agents arrest second man GiovontieThomas for accessory to first degree murder after the fact. They also locate a Ford pick up truck believed to be connected to Drummond in Dyer County. Monday, August 4: Dearrah Sanders is the third person to be arrested and charged for accessory to first degree murder after the fact. Jackson cops also release footage of Drummond, carrying a rifle and wearing camouflaged gear, trying to get into buildings and stalking driveways. The victims of the quadruple homicide were identified as parents Adrianna Williams, 20, and Matthew Wilson, 21. They were the parents of the baby that was found abandoned on the driveway. The baby's grandma, Cortney Rose, 38, and its uncle Braydon Williams, 15, were also killed. The bodies were found in Tiptonville - around 40 miles from Tigrett. Investigators believe the attack was targeted and investigators revealed Drummond dated a relative of one of the victims. Just 10 months before the slayings, Drummond was released from prison having served a sentence for armed robbery. While behind bars he shared photos of his cushy lifestyle. He boasted about receiving takeaway pizzas and his room contained game consoles and a television. In pictures, he was wearing prison overalls and seen with cell phones in his hands. He was out on bail after being charged with attempted murder for an incident that happened while behind bars. US Marshals have since admitted that it's possible Drummond may have left Tennessee. The reward for Drummond's arrest has now reached $30,000. 6 6 6 6
