British Sikh man, 30, stabbed to death in London; suspect charged with murder
The UK police believes that a British Sikh man was stabbed to death last week in London allegedly by people known to each other, reported PTI. Met's Specialist Crime North unit's Detective Chief Inspector said that the detectives believe the stabbing to be an 'isolated incident'.(Representational Photo/AFP) The victim was officially identified last week on Thursday as 30-year-old Gurmuk Singh, alias Gary. He reportedly died in Felbrigge Road in East London's Ilford on Wednesday, July 23. 'Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to reports of an altercation at a residential address…Officers attended as Gary was treated for stab wounds. Despite the best efforts of the paramedics, he sadly died at the scene,' said the Met Police statement. According to the police, a 27-year-old suspect, identified as Amardeep Singh, has been arrested. He has also been charged with one count of murder and is due to be presented at a court in London's Old Bailey for trial on January 5, 2026. Till then, he will stay in custody. Apart from Amardeep, other people have also been arrested in connection with the stabbing but have been released on bail till October as cops continue to probe the case. Those arrested include a 29-year-old man and three women aged 29, 30 and 54. 'Well-loved man' Gary's family described him as a 'well-loved man' and a 'social butterfly', adding that he will be deeply missed. The family said in a statement, released by the police, 'Gary was a well-loved man who had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone he met.' 'A true social butterfly, nothing brought him more joy than being surrounded by his family. Gary will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in our hearts forever,' they added. An inquest has been opened and subsequently adjourned as the probe into the stabbing is ongoing. Met's Specialist Crime North unit's Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke said that the detectives believe the stabbing to be an 'isolated incident'. 'An incident of this nature sends shockwaves throughout the local area and we understand the direct impact on the community. People can expect to see an uptick in police presence while officers conduct initial investigations. B'deshi armed group under scanner of Mizoram Police
1 2 3 4 Aizawl: Senior police officials in Mizoram are reportedly taking a serious view of the alleged illegal activities of the Parbottya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), a Bangladeshi armed group led by Jyotirindra Bodhipriyo Larma alias Santu Larma, in both Mizoram and Tripura. A senior police official said appropriate action will be taken against the Bangladesh-based Chakma outfit if its cadres are found venturing into Mizoram and indulging in illegal activities, as they have reportedly done in the past. Hundreds of people, both tribals and non-tribals, on Wednesday protested at Nutan Bazaar in South Tripura, submitting a memorandum to their CM Manik Saha, demanding expulsion of members of the Bangladeshi armed group from India. According to the memorandum, the PCJSS (Santu faction) has been accused of spoiling the lives of youths in the northeast through drug trafficking, using India as a shelter after committing murders in Bangladesh, and also carrying out anti-India activities from Bangladesh. This includes the alleged formation of the Tripura United National Front (TUNF) and sheltering them in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHTs) of Bangladesh. In India, members of the PCJSS (Santu) group are allegedly involved in trafficking of arms, drugs (including Yaba tablets), Burmese cigarettes and cows, which protestors claim is "destroying the youths of Tripura and Mizoram." The memorandum detailed recent seizures linked to the outfit's activities. Last year on Dec 30, Tripura Police reportedly seized 2,720 Burmese cigarette packets worth Rs 9 lakh from Raishyabari in Dhalai district. Recently, on June 19, the Assam Rifles reportedly seized drugs worth Rs 10 crore from Lunglei town in Mizoram. Furthermore, on Feb 12, Mizoram Police reportedly confiscated a significant cache of weapons. On June 4, Tripura Police arrested 13 cadres of the group and subsequently deported them to Bangladesh. The protestors alleged that the PCJSS (Santu) has evolved into a "transnational trafficking gang."

Fruit seller held for strangling former custom officer after stealing UP pin, siphoning money
Jaipur: A 31-year-old fruit seller was arrested Thursday for strangling an 88-year-old retired custom officer after stealing his PhonePe PIN and siphoning off nearly Rs 3 lakh from his account in Ramnagariya area. The accused, Kamlesh Kumar Sharma, who ran a fruit stall outside Lotus Villa Society in Jagatpura, allegedly recorded a video of the victim, Omprakash Khobar, entering his UPI PIN while paying for fruits. Over time, Sharma used the code to transfer money from Khobar's PhonePe account. When the victim noticed the unauthorised transactions and confronted him, Sharma lured him to his flat and killed him to silence him. The body was found in Flat No. 105 of the apartment on July 25. Initially, police suspected natural death due to the victim's age. However, scratch marks on the neck and the missing mobile phone raised suspicions. A post-mortem confirmed death by strangulation. Investigators recovered transaction alerts and call records indicating fund transfers from Khobar's PhonePe to Sharma's account. He stayed at the spot and mingled with other residents, pretending to be a concerned neighbour. "It was the digital trail that gave him away. He thought staying back would throw the probe off," said an officer. Police arrested Sharma after analysing technical evidence, including digital transactions and surveillance footage. Further interrogation is underway to determine if others were involved, particularly in the money transfers. Sharma was operating his fruit stall outside the society for some time and was familiar to several residents. The victim, police said, lived alone in the apartment.
