Manhunt underway in popular tourist destination after sulfuric acid attack critically burns pedestrian

Authorities in Hawaii are searching for a suspect who allegedly threw acid into a man's face Friday night in Honolulu, leaving him in critical condition. According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), officers responded to an assault complaint shortly after 10 p.m. in the Chinatown area. Witnesses told officers a 30-year-old man was crossing the street when an unidentified suspect approached and threw an unknown liquid into his face. The Honolulu Fire Department later identified the liquid as sulfuric acid, a highly corrosive chemical that causes severe burns to skin, eyes and internal tissue. Emergency responders took the victim to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition, an HPD spokesperson told Fox News Digital. Due to the severity of his injuries, HPD detectives were unable to interview him to gather additional information. "The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim did not know the suspect," the spokesperson said. "Right now, detectives are canvassing the scene to recover any surveillance video and locate any additional witnesses." HPD described the case as a first-degree assault, a serious felony in Hawaii. Detectives have not determined a motive, and it is unclear whether the attack qualifies as a hate crime. The suspect is described as a 6-foot man last seen wearing a blue fitted shirt and a do-rag with a camera around his neck and carrying a red bottle. The investigation is ongoing, police said. Honolulu Fire Department officials did not immediately respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital.

Four firefighters, two civilians injured in Jefferson Parish fire

METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — An infant is among six people who were injured in an apartment building fire in Metairie on Tuesday afternoon. Some firefighters also needed to be treated. Jefferson Parish Fire Chief Charles Hudson said firefighters arrived at the scene around 5:05 p.m., where they found heavy fire coming from the second floor of the building. Several people were trapped. 'There's one adult that was taken to university with heavy burns, and an infant was brought to children's hospital with heavy burns,' Hudson said. Man dies in Montegut house fire Christon Morgan, who lived on the first floor of the building, said that he was driving home from work when he saw his home on fire. 'I thought the gas station was on fire at first because I couldn't see the apartment from behind the gas station. So, once I made it to the corner, I noticed that our apartment was on fire,' Morgan said. Morgan says, during the fire, the injured man was seen hanging from the balcony and eventually collapsed on the street. He says that scene is something he will never forget. Other than the infant and the adult resident, four firefighters were taken away by ambulance to be treated for smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion. Hudson says that, due to their hard work and the civilian heroes who helped them, the remaining occupants of the complex were able to escape with little to no harm. 'People just stopped and saw the fire and started helping, and as we arrived on the scene, started pointing us in the right direction to get to the back of the building and get up on the second floor, where they did have people still in the building and we got them out safe and sound,' Hudson Posts Early showers but not much later in the day TikTok impersonation scheme hits Florida barber shop New Orleans to honor Katrina's 20th anniversary with week of events and summit Fans may have saved Mona Lisa French Quarter restaurant Saints name starting quarterback for preseason opener versus Chargers Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Baltimore teacher threatened to ‘go all Nazi' on Jewish student, complaint charges

WASHINGTON — Baltimore City Public Schools is the subject of a federal probe following a complaint alleging 'egregious and persistent discrimination' — with one still-employed teacher accused of threatening to 'go all Nazi' on a Jewish student and other classmates saying 'all Jews should die.' President Trump's Education Department launched the Title VI investigation after receiving evidence that Charm City schools tolerated pervasive harassment of Jewish kids in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The same teacher who made the 'go all Nazi' threat also 'personally directed Nazi salutes towards a Jewish student,' according to the complaint filed Thursday with the department's Office of Civil Rights. 4 A teacher — who is still getting a paycheck from BCPS — 'threatened to 'go all Nazi' on [his] students…and personally directed Nazi salutes towards a Jewish student,' per the complaint to the Education Department's Office of Civil Rights. TNS A subsequent BCPS investigation confirmed the incident occurred, but no disciplinary action was taken against the teacher, who is still employed by the city. Students also tormented their Jewish peers by exclaiming that '6 million was not enough,' in reference to the Holocaust, and scrawling Nazi graffiti on desks and in textbooks, the complaint alleged. Nazi salutes were also performed on the playground, while other students allegedly taunted Jewish classmates by saying: 'We should call Hamas and have them come here.' 4 A top education official under Secretary Linda McMahon called the allegations that BCPS tolerated 'virulent Nazi-inspired anti-Semitic harassment of its Jewish students is at once appalling and infuriating.' Bloomberg via Getty Images The incidents left Jewish students 'afraid to walk down the hallways alone and … unable to focus on schoolwork,' according to the Education Department. 'The allegations that Baltimore City Public Schools tolerate virulent Nazi-inspired anti-Semitic harassment of its Jewish students is at once appalling and infuriating,' said Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Craig Trainor in a statement. 'When a teacher allegedly directs a Nazi salute toward a Jewish student, or non-Jewish students harass their Jewish contemporaries by saying 'all Jews should die,' we are not simply talking about contemptible bullying; we are talking about a shocking abdication of educator responsibility that constitutes unlawful anti-Semitic harassment under Title VI.' 4 President Trump's Education Department launched the Title VI investigation after receiving evidence that schools in Maryland's biggest city tolerated pervasive anti-semitic harassment against Jewish students. REUTERS 4 'The Trump-McMahon Education Department's Office for Civil Rights will vigorously investigate this matter and ensure American Jewish students can learn and flourish in an environment free from unlawful discrimination,' the official said. The Washington Post via Getty Images 'If true,' Trainor added, 'these allegations confirm a disturbing trend: too many of our nation's educational institutions are failing American students by inculcating in them a loathing for their own country and fellow citizens and a tolerance and acceptance for a deeply destructive ancient hatred. 'The Trump-McMahon Education Department's Office for Civil Rights will vigorously investigate this matter and ensure American Jewish students can learn and flourish in an environment free from unlawful discrimination,' he said. Baltimore's public school system made embarrassing headlines last month when a July 22 Board of School Commissioners meeting was hijacked by the playing of a pornographic video that featured swastikas and antisemitic slurs during the public comment portion of proceedings. 'Baltimore City Public Schools (City Schools) is committed to fostering a culture of tolerance, respect, and civility. Bullying and harassment have no place in our schools, and we unequivocally reject antisemitism and hate in any form,' a spokeswoman said in a statement, acknowledging concerns had previously been raised by the Anti-Defamation League. 'City Schools stands in solidarity with our Jewish community and with all who seek to create safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments,' the spokeswoman added. 'We have condemned hateful behavior and taken action to hold students and staff accountable when our values and policies are violated.'
