Saudi Arabia addresses rumored plans to license alcohol sales
Saudi Arabia has dismissed as false recent international media reports claiming the Kingdom intends to legalize alcohol sales beginning in 2026.
Sources familiar with the matter told Arab News that such claims 'lack any official confirmation from relevant authorities and do not reflect existing policies or regulations in Saudi Arabia.'
The clarification comes amid growing global interest in the Kingdom's tourism sector, which has seen rapid growth under Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. The strategy aims to diversify the economy while offering visitors a culturally authentic and immersive experience.

On the matter of alcohol access for diplomats, the sources noted that the government recently introduced new controls to curb improper use of diplomatic imports.
Under the updated rules, embassies of non-Muslim countries are no longer allowed to bring alcohol and certain other items into the country through diplomatic shipments. However, the sources clarified that 'controlled access to such goods remains possible under strict regulatory guidelines to prevent misuse.'
