Labor: Suspension of Foreign Labor Recruitment as of Today - Jordan News
The Ministry of Labor announced the suspension of the recruitment of non-Jordanian labor starting today, Thursday, May 29, 2025.
The Ministry's spokesperson, Mohammad Al-Zyoud, stated that the decision to halt recruitment comes after a three-month period during which it was opened to meet the needs of employers in various economic sectors for non-Jordanian workers. He explained that the ministry will not reopen the recruitment process for foreign labor unless a thorough and comprehensive study of the labor market is conducted. اضافة اعلان Al-Zyoud confirmed that the ministry will continue its inspection campaigns in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Public Security Directorate across all governorates of the Kingdom to detect violations involving non-Jordanian labor and to take legal action against employers who hire them unlawfully.
He added that these inspection campaigns also aim to ensure that the non-Jordanian labor recruited by private sector establishments is actually working for them. He stressed that strict measures will be taken against any establishment found to have recruited foreign labor that is not actually working for it. These measures include suspending the establishment's ability to recruit or employ labor and not renewing work permits issued in its name.

He also spoke of artificial intelligence playing a major role in public sector decision-making, healthcare, and education. 'In the classroom, I see a student using an AI-powered assistant to support her learning, while teachers focus on students facing greater challenges,' he said. 'In the health sector, I imagine a citizen accessing a specialist remotely without the need to travel.' He also expressed his hopes for the Future Technology Council to serve as a model for public institutions, promoting innovation and enhancing service delivery. Reiterating Jordan's strategic vision, the Crown Prince stated, 'We want Jordan to be a regional hub for smart solutions and to collaborate closely with our Arab neighbors to serve shared interests.' He concluded by highlighting Jordan's strengths—stability, resilience, and a wealth of human talent—as assets that position the country for regional leadership. Hundreds of Syrian return home voluntarily from Jordan
Residents of the Syrian city of Homs welcomed a convoy of families returning voluntarily from Jordan after displacement during the Syrian uprising. The return was organized by the humanitarian group Waqf Farah in coordination with the Homs Governorate. Yahiya Rifai, a representative of the organization, told Syria's official news agency SANA that the convoy is the second to depart Jordan's Azraq camp voluntarily as part of ongoing efforts to support stability and the return of displaced families to their hometowns and villages. Rifai said the arrangements followed a visit by Waqf Farah's founder, Dr. Mohammad Rahif Hakmi, to Azraq camp, where coordination took place with relevant authorities to facilitate the return. The convoy included 235 families—around 730 people—who were previously forcibly displaced from Syria to Jordan. They arrived in Homs province aboard buses, accompanied by trucks carrying their belongings. The organization also distributed food baskets and clothing to all returning families. The convoy entered Syria through the Nassib border crossing in Daraa province on Saturday and continued to 14 residential areas in rural Homs, with support from Waqf Farah and in coordination with Syrian, Jordanian, and Emirati authorities.
