BCCI To End Partnership With Dream11? Secretary Saikia Issues Big Update
Last Updated: BCCI would comply with the Indian government's new upcoming Bills against real money companies, even if it might mean ending sponsorship deal with Dream11. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in full support of the central government's two new bills — the National Sports Governance Law, 2025 and Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 (which was passed in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, but is yet to become a law) — and will follow them in 'true letter and spirit', according to secretary Devajit Saikia. Both regulations could have a significant impact on the board and the Indian cricket teams. To start with, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill is calling for a blanket ban on all real-money gaming platforms and their promoters. That will include Dream11, the official shirt sponsor of the BCCI. 'Once the act comes into force, we will look into it, examine it and if it's permissible, then we will take sponsorship (from online betting and gaming companies), if it's not permissible, we'll not do anything," Saikia told The Times of India about the latter. 'Take the example of cigarettes and liquor. Has the BCCI taken any sponsorship from the cigarettes and liquor companies once taking sponsorship from these kinds of companies was banned? So, whatever is permissible in the laws in force in our country, we will do that only. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country which is framed by the central government," he added. The National Sports Governance Law, 2025, made the government's stance on multi-national cricket between India and Pakistan formal, allowing the BCCI to participate and play against the Men in Green in the 2025 Asia Cup in September. Under it, bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan remains outlawed, with cricketers from across the border not allowed to step into India unless it's for a multi-nation tournament. 'The central government has taken the interest of the players, the teams and also, the events that are going to be hosted by our country in the future. So, all these things are very nicely taken by the government of India and we fully endorse the view expressed by the central government and we will 100% abide by the policy framed by the central government," Saikia added. 'The BCCI will not go a single inch against the government's policy. We will fully abide by all policies of the central government, whether it is participating in an international sporting event or regarding sponsorship. We will follow everything in true letter and spirit," he said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Discontinuing paid games, free titles like Ludo to stay: Zupee
Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) Gaming platform Zupee on Thursday said it is discontinuing its paid games in view of the Online Gaming Bill that was passed by the Parliament. However, Zupee's free titles like Ludo Supreme, Ludo Turbo, Snakes & Ladders, and Trump Card Mania will continue to be available for all users, the company said in a statement. 'Zupee remains fully operational and our players can continue to enjoy their favourite games on the platform. In line with the new Online Gaming Bill 2025, we are discontinuing paid games," a Zupee spokesperson said. Parliament on Thursday passed a bill to ban all forms of online money games and promote eSports and online social gaming, with the Rajya Sabha approving it without debate amid din. Piloting The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 in the Upper House, Minister of Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said the legislation will promote two-thirds of the online gaming segment. The bill, he said, will ban online money games, which have become a big problem for society, especially middle-class youth. The bill also seeks to prohibit advertisements related to online money games, as well as bars banks and financial institutions from facilitating or transferring funds for any of such games. MBA= Master Of Bluff Administration? LinkedIn User's Fake Harvard Degree Sparks Backlash
A LinkedIn user faked a Harvard MBA for fun, sparking debate after recruiters praised his profile. SMB Attorney warned against such deception, citing legal and career risks. News18 A LinkedIn user faked a Harvard MBA on his profile 'just for fun" and shared the experiment online, triggering widespread debate. According to his post, the false credentials immediately enhanced his credibility with recruiters and professional contacts. However, the stunt drew sharp criticism from lawyer SMB Attorney, who cautioned against such deceptive practices. 'Master's degrees are useless. I gave myself one on LinkedIn just for fun (there's no verification process). Since adding this to my profile, the DMs have been flowing in. Every other message mentions how 'impressive" my academic background is. So instead of spending $100K+ and wasting years of your life on a degree, just add it to your LinkedIn. No one checks. No one questions. Fake it till you make it has never been easier," the LinkedIn user wrote. Guys, do not do this. And, yes, this is legal advice. — SMB Attorney (@SMB_Attorney) August 18, 2025 The post sparked debate, with some users labelling it foolish and potentially harmful to one's career, while others found the stunt amusing. One commenter highlighted that detailed background checks can expose falsified credentials and warned that such dishonesty can lead to serious repercussions. A few users drew parallels with the TV show Suits, sharing stories of fictional characters facing consequences for similar deception. Others weighed in on the legal aspects, with one user pointing out that while misrepresenting information on LinkedIn or a resume may not be illegal, fabricating credentials is. One user wrote, 'Why did bro snitch on himself. That's like Mike Ross walking into the Prosecutor's office, turning on a loudspeaker and saying he successfully frauded his way to the top." 'Why just a masters when you can give yourself a doctorate? Seriously, guys, don't undersell yourself," added the other. A third noted, 'As a person who has hired quite a few people, Background checking is a thing. Sterling will check every single credential and job in your history. Making a mistake by a month or two on a job timeline is one thing, but substantially lying about your credentials is foolish." 'I used to do a lot of interviews. Many respondents were Indians, and most had fake degrees and job histories. Based on how many HR hired, I would say that they get away with it just fine," added the other. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
