PS Portal Gets Massive Update With Improved Cloud Streaming
A major system software update will roll out today, April 9, that brings UX and cloud game streaming (beta) enhancements. Sony has announced that the update will also add the ability to sort games alongside support for gameplay captures.
Patch details for today's PS Portal update are as follows:
Sort: You can now sort games in the Cloud Streaming catalog screen. There will be a new sort icon added to the top left corner, allowing you to sort games by: Recently added to PS Plus (default), Name, and Release date.
Capture gameplay: The Create button on your PS Portal will now be enabled during a Cloud Streaming session. Here is what you can do:
– Press once: Display the create menu
– Press and hold: Take a screenshot
– Press twice: Start/finish recording a video clip
Queue: You can now wait for your turn to play when the streaming server is full. The estimated wait time will be displayed on screen, and the game session will automatically start as soon as it's your turn.
Pause: During a Cloud Streaming game session, gameplay will now pause in the following situations:
– Gameplay will pause when you open the PS Portal quick menu. You can open the quick menu by pressing the PS button, swiping left from the top right corner of your screen, or tapping the quick menu icon from the status bar.
– When you press the power button once, PS Portal will be put into rest mode and the game will be paused. You can un-pause and get back to your game play by pressing the power button again. If PS Portal remains in rest mode for more than 15 seconds, the cloud streaming session will be disconnected.
– Gameplay will also pause when a system error message is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Notification of inactivity: You will now receive a system notification when your streaming session is about to close due to inactivity of over 10 minutes.
User feedback screen: We have added a user feedback screen at the end of the streaming sessions to rate the quality of your streaming experience.

New movies to stream from June 2-8 — 'Presence,' one of two excellent Steven Sodebergh-directed, David Koepp-scripted movies released this year, arrives Tuesday on Hulu. The film, a nifty, experimental little thriller, is filmed entirely from the perspective a ghost inside a home a family has just moved into. From a floating point-of-view, we watch as the mysterious presence, piecing together a past trauma while observing the unfolding a new one. In her review, AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr called 'Presence' 'a heady experiment that transcends the somewhat gimmicky-on-paper premise — something Soderbergh manages to do alarmingly well and regularly.' — Tyler Perry 's latest, 'Straw,' stars Taraji P. Henson as a struggling single mother who, desperate for money to pay for her daughter's prescriptions, robs a bank. The film, co-starring Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor and Sinbad, debuts Friday, June 6 on Netflix. — For anyone still mourning the death of Gene Hackman, a new series streaming from Thursday on the Criterion Channel collects some of the late actor 's best films. That includes William Friedkin's seminal 1971 New York thriller 'The French Connection,' Francis Ford Coppola's 1974 masterpiece 'The Conversation' and Wes Anderson's 'The Royal Tenenbaums,' a movie in which Hackman's strained relationship with the director has been a subject of conversation following his death. The series will show the two pro ballplayers work to make Reebok Basketball cool and competitive in the sneaker market. It drops Wednesday. — Get your feel-good TV fix with Apple TV+'s new show, 'Stick.' It stars Owen Wilson as Pryce, a broke and divorced former pro golfer who could use a break. He finds it in a teen phenom named Santi and volunteers to be his coach. The show is about chosen family and second chances. 'Stick' premieres Wednesday. — Alicia Rancilio New video games to play week of June 2-8 — Nintendo fans worldwide are bracing themselves for the arrival of the Switch 2, a souped-up version of the eight-year-old console with new social features meant to draw players into online gaming. The highlight of the launch lineup is Mario Kart World, which features a Grand Prix for up to 24 drivers and introduces a sprawling open environment where 'everywhere is your racecourse.' Other Day One arrivals include upgraded versions of the last two Legend of Zelda adventures, and some popular third-party games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Split Fiction will be making their Nintendo debuts. ‘Andor' Showrunner Confirms It Cost $650 Million, So Good Luck Doing That Again
Andor Andor has some of the best production value of any Star Wars project we've seen, from its real-life sets to its splicing with VFX, and there's a reason for that. It cost a stunning amount of money. Back in December, Forbes' Caroline Reid reported that Andor cost $645 million, based on Disney filings she'd found that indicated that price. It was debated around the industry, but while it certainly seemed provable, now, for the first time, the showrunner of Andor himself is talking about that figure. And it is in fact that figure after all. Tony Gilroy was speaking on a panel during the ATX Television Festival and had this to say about how this all came together, including Disney just throwing money at the project: 'I mean, [for] Disney this is $650 million,' Gilory said. 'For 24 episodes, I never took a note. We said 'F*** the Empire' in the first season, and they said, 'Can you please not do that?' … In Season 2, they said, 'Streaming is dead, we don't have the money we had before,' so we fought hard about money, but they never cleaned anything up. That [freedom] comes with responsibilities.' Gilroy has spoken about just how much support Disney gave to the series, which was concocted as long as a decade ago before just finishing its run. That not only includes the money (and that is an astonishing budget), but also the ability to do things like have a brother and murders in the first ten minutes, or the ability to say things like 'genocide' and 'rape' in a Star Wars series. As much as the fanbase likes to point fingers at her for what's wrong with Disney, Gilroy has said that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy was the show's biggest champion and the reason a lot of this got done. Andor Interestingly, if you do break down that budget, and Andor's episode total, this is like shooting six or so, two-hour movies. Split that up, and it's $110 million a movie. Spare change for a Star Wars film! Of course, there's the other side of this. This was not a billion dollar-earning blockbuster. This was a Disney Plus streaming series, and before The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew, it was the least-watched in the franchise. Season 2 increased those numbers, but it's wild spending in that context. Disney, however, came away with one of the best Star Wars projects in the history of the franchise. Some say it's the best thing that's been made in the universe outside of the original trilogy. Some may even squeeze Return of the Jedi out of that too. It's universally beloved, and so if nothing else, Disney bought the idea that they can make something great with Star Wars if all the stars align. It is hard to imagine the stars aligning like this again. That kind of spending on this kind of project with that much freedom with that many episodes in an increasingly competitive streaming landscape as Star Wars heads mostly back to film?
