Zii Jia's cryptic images on social media send fans and friends into frenzy
The former national No. 1 posted a series of disturbing images on his account, which included one of a faceless, stitched-up figure holding a long, blood-stained needle.
While none of his fans and friends are certain of the true meaning behind his post, they have rallied behind him, offering their support and making sure Zii Jia isn't alone in his struggles.
Women's singles shuttler and good friend of Zii Jia, Goh Jin Wei, wrote, 'Time will heal everything,' while mixed doubles shuttler Lai Pei Jing said, 'Let's work hard together.'
Young doubles shuttler Yap Roy King was also concerned, asking, 'Are you okay bro?', while another mixed doubles player Goh Soon Huat made sure to also leave an emoji to show his support.
Even athletes from other sports hopped over to make sure Zii Jia was seen, with national squash player Ng Eain Yow saying, 'Come on, friend!'.
From China, three-time Olympic diving gold medallist Quan Hongchan said, 'Keep fighting!'
Malaysian badminton superfan Khai Yuen Chao, or better known as Ahjo Badminton, said, 'I know it's hard right now, but I believe in you. One step at a time, you'll rise again.'
The year hasn't been the best for Zii Jia, with him only participating in two tournaments so far, the Orleans Masters and All-England in March, before announcing a break from the courts to nurse a foot injury.
The posts shared by Zii Jia were reposted from China's Xiaohongshu app, which was originally drawn by an artist on Instagram known as Omar El Badri or Axil Tinsti.
Being absent from the court certainly has its effects on any shuttler, as Zii Jia's ranking has dropped to world No. 27, but he has applied for a protected ranking from the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to safeguard his position during the layoff.

Ruben Neves serves as pallbearer at Diogo Jota's funeral after emotional match
AL-HILAL'S Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo flew to Portugal for the funeral for their former teammate Diogo Jota after an emotional Club World Cup quarter-final against Fluminense on Friday that saw them break down in tears during the minute's silence. Neves, one of Jota's closest friends, served as a pallbearer for the Liverpool forward who died alongside his younger brother Andre Silva following a car accident in northwestern Spain on Thursday morning when their Lamborghini veered off the road and caught fire. Tributes have continued to pour in for the brothers with footballing greats including Cristiano Ronaldo and Steven Gerrard, joining the Prime Ministers of Portugal and Britain in mourning the loss. Friday's match between Al-Hilal and Fluminense in Orlando began with players and fans observing a minute's silence in memory of the two brothers. Neves, who played with the 28-year-old Jota during their days at Wolverhampton Wanderers, issued a touching tribute on Instagram about an hour before kick-off. 'Wherever you are, I know you're going to read this, we've never been one for this sort of thing and maybe now I'll regret it a little, but you know what you mean to me just as much as I know what I am to you,' Neves said. 'More than a friendship, we're family, and we're not going to stop being family just because you've decided to sign a contract a little further away from us! 'When I go to the national team, you'll still be by my side at the dinner table, on the bus, on the plane... you'll always be there with me, as usual. We'll keep laughing, making plans, sharing our lives with each other. 'I'll make sure you're always there and I'll make sure your family never lacks anything while you're there, far away but thinking of us, waiting for us ... 'As of today, you'll be on the pitch with me, and we'll follow our path together, on the stage where we met.' Chelsea's Portuguese forward Pedro Neto also paid a heartfelt tribute to his friends when he walked out on the field with a shirt bearing their names before their quarter-final against Palmeiras in Philadelphia. 'We spoke with Pedro yesterday and this morning and this afternoon and it was completely Pedro's decision to play or not to play,' Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said after his team's 2-1 win. 'He did, he made a fantastic effort to play this game, to play with his teammates, and we really appreciate what he has done. 'I just said to the players that this win is especially for him because we know how close he was, and the effort that he has made. So no doubt that we really appreciate what he decided in the end.'

Luqman Hakim aims to shine with NSFC after European football stint
AFTER spending five years playing with Belgian club KV Kortrijk, young striker Luqman Hakim Shamsuddin is ready to make his mark with Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) in the upcoming season of the Malaysia League. He said that playing abroad since 2020 has taught him plenty about discipline, mental toughness and the high intensity of the game that he intends to put to good use this season. 'I believe that Negeri Sembilan is the team for me to play for in Malaysia. I'm attracted to the team because I'm confident in the management's plans, and I'm ready to play thanks to the guidance of head coach Mohd Nidzam Jamil. 'My target is to help restore NSFC's glory days. I hope Negri supporters can be patient and continue to support this team, as most of the players are new, so we need some time to play as a team,' he said after the opening of the Warrix Concept Store by Tunku Besar Tampin, Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus Al-Qadri, who is Negeri Sembilan Football Association (PBNS) president, here today. The 23-year-old said team understanding was crucial to ensure that the team achieves its goal of performing well, and said it was vital to translate the intensity of a game into consistent play on the field. 'The difference in playing abroad is the intensity of the matches, I realise the situation is different here and don't expect that it's the same as Belgium, but it will serve me well in helping the team create something positive this season,' he said. Luqman Hakim was the first Malaysian player to sign a contract with a major European club for five seasons in 2020 before he even turned 18 and spent the period playing for the main squad and the development team before being loaned to foreign clubs such as the Icelandic League's main team Njarovik FC and Japanese club YSCC Yokohama. At today's launch, Tunku Syed Razman said the Warrix Concept Store and the NSFC 'Hobin' membership card were important in strengthening the professional football ecosystem in the state. The Warrix Concept Store is a centre for obtaining official jerseys and sports equipment, while the membership card provides benefits such as exclusive discounts at selected stores, pre-sale tickets and activities with NSFC players. - Bernama

Cricket-Rahul, Pant shine as India extend lead over England to 357
Cricket - Second Test - England v India - Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham, Britain - July 5, 2025 India's KL Rahul in action Action Images via Reuters/Paul Childs BIRMINGHAM, England (Reuters) -KL Rahul scored a half-century before Rishabh Pant literally threw his bat at everything as India moved on to 177-3 to stretch their commanding lead to 357 runs over England at lunch on day four of the second test at Edgbaston on Saturday. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter walked in at 126-3 and immediately entertained the crowd, smashing sixes and boundaries before providing the day's most memorable moment when he lost his grip on his bat. He sent his willow flying to square leg where it landed safely, much to the amusement of the Edgbaston crowd, but not the England bowlers who had a productive first hour before their momentum was halted. Pant was unbeaten on 41 alongside skipper Shubman Gill (24 not out) at the interval, their quickfire partnership of 51 runs coming off 53 balls. Resuming on their overnight 64-1, the morning session in overcast conditions with the floodlights on began with both Karun Nair and Rahul surviving early scares when thick edges flew through gaps in the slip cordon. But Brydon Carse's persistence paid off when he tempted Nair into a drive and wicketkeeper Jamie Smith's eyes lit up when he took the catch to dismiss the Indian batter for 26. Rahul remained patient and he continued to find gaps on the offside as he brought up his 18th test fifty, but Josh Tongue struck with a ball that seamed off the pitch to go past the Indian batter's defence and hit the stumps. Tongue's delight was short-lived, however, as Pant walked in and unsettled the fast bowler with a boundary before he danced down the track to smash it over his head for six. Pant survived when, on 10, he smashed the ball straight to mid off where Zak Crawley spilled the catch, and he made the bowlers pay with a flurry of fours and another six. England won the first test at Headingley by five wickets. (Reporting by Rohith Nair in Bengaluru, editing by Ed Osmond)
