Only 44,570 acres to be irrigated under Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme this kharif season
The minutes of the first meeting of the State Level Committee for Integrated Water Planning and Management (SCIWAM) held on July 11, accessed by TNIE on Wednesday, revealed that out of four balancing reservoirs under Kaleshwaram project, Mallannasagar and Kondapochammasagar have sufficient storage for irrigation. In view of this, an action plan proposed by the chief engineer, Gajwel under these two balancing reservoirs has been accepted and recommended by the committee.
However, ayacut proposed under Annapurna and Ranganayakasagar balancing reservoirs, where there is a scarcity of water, will be reviewed after inflows are received at Yellampally and Mid Manair projects.
The Vanakalam action plan proposed by the chief engineer, Ramagundam in respect of Boggulavagu is accepted subject to realisation of water. The officials proposed 3,200 acres of ayacut under Boggulavagu.
Due to scarcity of water, the Vanakalam action plan proposed by the chief engineer (Irrigation), Ramagundam under SYP and SRSP above LMD and Manthani LIS will be reviewed after receiving sufficient inflows.
The officials proposed 2,05,320 acres under SRSP (above LMD) and 10,000 acres under Manthani Lift Irrigation Scheme.
In Ghanpur Anicut and Singur project too, the proposed ayacut will be reviewed after sufficient inflows reach Singur. The officials have proposed to irrigate 21,625 acres under Ghanpur Anicut.
In Gollavagu, Ralivagu, Nilwai and NTR Sagar projects, and Sadarmatt, Gaddenavagu and SRSP too, the Vanakalam action plan proposed by the chief engineer, Mancherial will be reviewed after receiving sufficient inflows.
However, the SCIWAM meeting accepted 32,662 acres of ayacut proposed under the Nizamsagar project. The chief engineer, Kamareddy requested that 3 tmcft of water be supplemented from Kondapochamma to Nizamsagar in case of low inflows into Nizamsagar.
The committee informed that supplementation will be possible only when sufficient inflows are received at SYP and all irrigation proposals under all balancing reservoirs in Kaleshwaram up to Kondapochamma are served.

Vande Bharat: Tissues used to plug leaks, but what about the issues?
HYDERABAD: Passengers travelling on the Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 20704) from Yeshwantpur to Kacheguda on Friday evening reported water leakage from the air-conditioning units. Complaints were raised with the concerned staff, but no action was taken until now. According to a service provider on board, the leakage occurs when the temperature is set too low, with the problem reportedly affecting even the pilot's cabin. Speaking to TNIE, Vijayaraghavan, a retired government employee travelling from Anantapur to Kacheguda in the C13 AC Chair Car, said, 'It is pathetic to see Vande Bharat facing such issues. We have paid more than `1,000 for this journey. The service providers keep moving from one side to the other, but no one is addressing the issue.' When another drop of water fell on his head, he added, 'It is abhishekam'. When TNIE visited the nearby coaches C12, C11, C10, and C9, it observed tissue papers placed at certain leakage points to control dripping water. However, this measure proved ineffective, leaving passengers to travel in discomfort. 'The leakage from AC units happens when the temperature is set too low. This issue has been persisting for a very long time, but no measures have been taken so far, despite repeated complaints to our higher officials. They just fix tissues, not the issue,' said a service provider on board. He explained that the same condition exists in the pilot's cabin, while executive chair car coaches remain unaffected, with zero issues, on Friday evening. Another passenger, speaking to this newspaper, complained about the water dripping issue using the 'At Your Service' complaint number. The officials who answered the call said that an onboard service provider would check the problem, but it was not resolved. 'The train was already delayed by more than an hour, and now water is dripping from above. At first, it happened once every 15 minutes, but as time passed, it began dripping very frequently. Is this what we are paying for?' asked the passenger. When SCR officials were contacted regarding the issue, they responded that it is because of excessive cooling of the condenser, which also depends on the outside temperature. They stated that the issue has been brought to notice, the concerned officials have been sensitised in this regard, and the coach is under observation.

After government apathy, Andhra's Gajulaguda villagers pool funds to build school building on their own
Villagers raise Rs 50,000 for school building, work resumes Gajulaguda is a tribal hamlet under Kimiseela Gram Panchayat in Komarada Mandal, home to around 110 tribal residents. Despite having five teachers and 55 students, the school operates from a single room. Consequently, Classes 1 to 3 are conducted inside the room, Class 4 is held in the corridor, and Class 5 under the open sky. Although the previous government sanctioned Rs 5.5 lakh for a new building under the Nadu-Nedu scheme, the project was left incomplete by the contractor. Multiple appeals by the villagers to ITDA officials and local elected representatives have yielded no results. Determined to address the issue, the villagers decided to complete the pending masonry work on their own. They began collecting donations of Rs 400 to Rs 500 from each household and also volunteered their labour to support the construction. A total of Rs 50,000 has been raised, and the masonry work resumed on Monday. Speaking to TNIE, K Malleswararao of Gajulaguda said, 'We have 55 students and five teachers in our village, but only one room for all five classes. Teachers are forced to conduct Classes 1 to 3 inside the room, Class 4 in the corridor, and Class 5 outside. Both students and teachers suffer, especially during heavy rains, and classes are often cancelled. Though a new building was sanctioned, the contractor left the job midway. So, we decided to take up work ourselves,'
