Hari Hara Veera Mallu box office collection Day 1: Pawan Kalyan-starrer earns Rs 44.2 crore despite mediocre reactions, falls short of Ram Charan's Game Changer
Pawan Kalyan's film hasn't received promising reviews but on the first day, it witnessed approximately 57 percent occupancy in Telugu-speaking regions. In Hyderabad, the film had around 1000 shows with almost 66 percent occupancy. Bengaluru saw around 560 shows with approximately 38 percent occupancy and in Visakhapatnam, there were around 364 shows with approximately 63 percent occupancy. It also released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada but had very few shows in these languages.
While the opening numbers sound quite promising, Pawan Kalyan's last three films had similar figures on their respective opening days but all of them crashed shortly afterwards. His 2023 film Bro opened at Rs 30 crore but could only make Rs 83 crore at the domestic box office. His 2022 release Bheemla Nayak opened at Rs 37.15 crore and finished its theatrical run at Rs 112 crore. And his 2021 release, Vakeel Saab, opened at Rs 40 crore but managed to make Rs 109 crore in the domestic market. With the mediocre reviews that Hari Hara Veera Mallu has received, it looks like the film's collections might experience a dip sooner than expected.

The Telugu film industry hasn't had a massive hit in 2025. Shankar's Game Changer, starring Ram Charan, could only manage to make Rs 131.17 crore at the box office, which was quite disappointing given its massive budget of over Rs 400 crore. The film opened at Rs 51 crore, and had a huge nationwide release. Sankranthiki Vasthunam, starring Venkatesh, did significantly well as it earned Rs 186.7 crore.
Telugu cinema had its biggest success with Allu Arjun-starrer Pushpa 2 in 2024. The film opened at Rs 174.9 crore, and made Rs 1234.1 crore during its theatrical run. While it made Rs 341.48 crore in Telugu, the film created history at the Hindi box office as well, eaening over Rs 800 crore.

Book and culture lovers in Jammu and Kashmir are in for a treat as the Chinar Book Fair will return to Srinagar from August 2 with organisers promising additional features like a national exhibition on the ancient Sharda script, Gojri translation workshop and Tamil-Kashmiri Samvad. The organisers say that the nine-day festival will see the participation of more than 200 publishers and book stalls from across India, offering books in English, Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, and other Indian languages. Organised by the National Book Trust, India in collaboration with National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) and Srinagar district administration, the 2025 edition will take place at the scenic back lawns of Sheri Kashmir International Convention Centre, from August 2 to 10, a statement by the chief convener Dr Amit Wanchoo said. 'This festival is much more than a literary gathering. It reflects the spirit of learning and cultural pride in Kashmir. In a world that often feels lonely, this book festival unites us all, inspiring writers, readers and thinkers from across the country to engage with our rich literary heritage, sowing seeds of hope and understanding for future generations,' he said. The organisers say that the nine-day festival will see the participation of more than 200 publishers and book stalls from across India, offering books in English, Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, and other Indian languages. From bilingual children's books and academic titles to digital content and regional classics, there is something for everyone. 'But this year's festival is more than just a book exhibition. It is a space for ideas, learning, and cultural exchange. Special sessions include the Rajtarangini Samvad, with workshops and panel discussions, exploring various aspects of the historical text,' said Wanchoo. The book festival will also feature a national exhibition on the ancient Sharda script, and a first-ever Gojri translation workshop, aimed to produce bilingual books in Hindi, Urdu, Dogri, Kashmiri, and English. These efforts aim to bring lesser-represented languages and stories into the mainstream. 'A major highlight of the festival is the Tamil-Kashmiri Samvad under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, focusing on shared cultural and spiritual traditions across the regions,' the statement said. There will be participation of prominent scholars, educators, writers, poets, and other distinguished personalities. Other key attractions include creative writing and illustration workshops, calligraphy sessions, author talks, storytelling, laughter therapy and a wide range of activities for children. Visitors will also be able to explore the Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya, a digital platform providing free access to thousands of e-books. Evenings will feature live cultural performances like folk songs, mushaira, Kashmiri chhakri, Bhand Pather, and theatre, offering a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for all age groups. The statement quoted professor Milind Sudhakar Marathe, chairman of NBT-India saying: 'The Chinar Book Festival is not just a showcase of books. It is about bringing people together through language, literature, and shared experiences. From ancient scripts to modern publishing, we are creating a space where heritage and innovation go hand in hand.' Yuvraj Malik, director of National Book Trust, India, said: 'After the success of the first edition, we wanted to expand the Chinar Book Festival. With new ideas and broader participation, this year's edition is designed to reach more people, especially young readers. We aim to help build a strong reading culture across Jammu & Kashmir.'

Movie Hari Hara Veera Mallu – Part 1 Review: Bombastic, not fantastic
Krish Jagarlamudi . The much-delayed and hyped multi-lingual movie Hari Hara Veeramallu has arrived at theaters. The movie's release was put off by five years due to various reasons including the pandemic. Its shooting began under the guidance of directorbut he had to exit. Later, Jyothi Krishna, the son of well-known producer AM Rathnam, took the responsibility of completing the shooting. The result: The tonal and dramatic disparities are evident between the pre and post-intermissions. The failure of the directors to translate the potential of the core premise of the movie to the screen is its plot revolves around a king entrusting a well-known fugitive with a task to reclaim a priceless diamond. The movie begins with Veera Mallu attacking officers from the British East India Company and recovering diamonds from them. Impressed by Veera Mallu's skills in stealing diamonds, a king (Sachin Khedekar), assigns him to steal diamonds that are being sent to Golconda Nawab. Veera Mallu meets Panchami (Nidhi Agerwal), a devadasi, and falls in love with her. Panchami pleads with Veera Mallu to save her from the king, who wants to keep her as his mistress. You have to watch the movie to know what happens to Veera Mallu and whether or he reaches Golconda or far as the performances of actors are concerned, Pawan Kalyan has worked hard but fails to meet the expectations of the audiences, including his hardcore fans. He looks good in action scenes but too much glorification and computer graphics have played spoilsport. Action scenes, especially those of the hero and heroine jumping from one building to another and flying like kites to escape from enemies, are too far-fetched. It is not clear what the director was hoping to achieve with such scenes. Nidhi Agerwal looks good, but has no chance to showcase her acting skills. Bobby Deol, as Aurangzeb, is convincing. Sathyaraj, Nassar, Subbaraju, Raghu Babu give good by MM Keeravani is not up to the mark. Art director Thota Tharani has done a commendable job. If you have nothing much to do, you can watch this film.
