Prayag Manjhi alias Vivek had a bounty of Rs 1 crore, Arvind Yadav carried a reward of Rs 25 lakh, and Sahebram Manjhi, also known as Rahul Manjhi, had a bounty of Rs 10 lakh. The remaining naxals have been identified as Mahesh Manjhi alias Mota, Talu, Raju Manjhi, Gangaram, and Mahesh.
Prayag Manjhi (60) was the Central Committee Member (CCM) of the Eastern Regional Bureau of Naxals.
The bodies of the Naxals were recovered following an exchange of fire between the rebel group and the 209 Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (Cobra) unit of the
Central Reserve Police Force
and the state police force.
The exchange of fire began around 5.30 am in the Lugu hills under the Lalpania area of Bokaro.
As per the CRPF, the troops recovered a cache of arms from the site, including one AK-series rifle, one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), three INSAS rifles, one pistol, and eight country-made Bharmar rifles.
"No injuries or casualties have been reported among the security personnel involved in the operation," the CRPF said in a statement.
"The gunfire has ceased, and a thorough search operation is currently underway in the area to ensure complete sanitisation and to trace any remaining insurgents or hidden weaponry," added the CRPF, India's largest Central Armed Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs, mandated to ensure internal security in its area of jurisdiction.
Officials said that the search was going on and the operation was part of an intensified campaign by security forces to dismantle Naxalite activities in the region.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the security forces for the operation through a post on 'X' handle.
"Our march to eliminate Naxalism continues unabated. Today, security forces achieved another significant success in the ongoing operation to uproot Naxalism. In the last five years, from 2020 to 2024, a total of 178 Naxals have been neutralised in such joint operations in which the CRPF was involved. NDA govt has delivered significant changes in 1  1 years, will do more: PM Modi

PM Modi (File Photo) NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday marked the milestone of him completing 11 years in office, saying the NDA govt, in its three terms, had delivered significant changes, and promising to do more in the rest of his current tenure. "We are proud of our collective success but at the same time, we look ahead with hope, confidence and a renewed resolve to build a Viksit Bharat," he posted on X. Modi shared a series of hashtags and social media links, which - while focusing on his govt's initiatives - also represented a pitch for OBCs, tribals, Dalits and women. A link shared by him noted that 60% of Union ministers were from the SC, ST and OBC categories, a message aimed at burnishing the social justice credentials of his govt amid attempts by opposition parties to paint it as working against their interests. This is the highest representation of these groups in the Union Council of Ministers, it added. He also said that the NDA govt had redefined the concept of "women-led development". Modi also asserted that under the 11 years of his govt, India had not just become the fastest-growing major economy, but was also a key global voice on pressing issues like climate action and digital innovation. Home minister Amit Shah hailed Modi govt's 11 years as a "golden period" in public service, while defence minister Rajnath Singh asserted that India stood well-equipped and unwavering in its resolve to safeguard its territorial integrity, as Union ministers praised the PM's leadership. Chhattisgarh: Additional SP killed in IED bast days before daughter's birthday

Raipur : Akash Rao Girepunje, additional superintendent of police Akash Rao Girepunje was killed in a Naxal-planted IED blast in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Monday, just two days before his daughter's sixth birthday. The 42-year-old officer, posted in the insurgency-hit Konta division of Sukma since March 2024, was critically injured when a pressure-IED exploded during a patrol in the Konta area. He succumbed at a hospital shortly after. Two other police personnel were also injured in the explosion. Girepunje, a native of Raipur, had planned to visit his in-laws' house in Bhandara, Maharashtra, for his daughter's birthday on June 11. 'He had promised his daughter he would be there, no matter what,' said his younger brother, Adarsh Girepunje. 'We never imagined that his recent visit home on May 20 for his son's birthday would be our last meeting.' Adarsh, an MBBS graduate preparing for post-graduation, recalled receiving a call at around 9:30 AM on Monday from his brother's security staff informing him about the blast. 'At first, I was told he was injured. But just half an hour later, I got the devastating news that he was no more,' he said. Girepunje is survived by his wife Sneha, their two children—a 7-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter—and his elderly parents. His father, Govind Rao Girepunje, runs a small garage in Raipur. Akash was the second among five siblings. A commerce graduate from a government college in 2004, Girepunje had aspired to become a government officer since childhood. He prepared for the UPSC in Delhi, clearing the preliminary exam four times but failing to crack the mains. He cleared the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission exam in 2008 and was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police in 2013. He also cleared public service exams in multiple states and briefly worked in a nationalised bank before joining the police. 'Bhaiya had a passion for teaching and mentoring UPSC aspirants. He inspired two of our cousins to take up civil services preparation,' Adarsh said. Known for his fearless service in Naxal-hit regions like Mohla-Manpur and Konta, Girepunje was instrumental in establishing new police camps and strengthening security infrastructure. 'Fighting Naxalites was not just a job for him, it was a mission. He never flinched in the face of danger,' Adarsh added. Girepunje's mortal remains were brought to Raipur and taken to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Hospital for post-mortem. A large crowd gathered at his Kushalpur residence to pay their final respects. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who postponed his scheduled visit to Rajnandgaon, visited Girepunje's family and paid tributes. 'He showed unmatched courage and dedication to his duty. His sacrifice will not go in vain,' the CM said in an official statement. The CM later chaired a high-level meeting to review anti-Naxal operations and also visited a private hospital to check on the condition of the two injured officers. He was accompanied by senior state officials including Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Manoj Pingua, DGP Arun Dev Gautam, and ADG (Anti-Naxal Operations) Vivekanand Sinha.

DoT's BSNL Ask of States may Hit Private Telcos

Remove Ads The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has written to the state governments to consider using the telecom services of state-run operators Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), citing data security governments have from time to time mandated using services of state-run telcos on a project-wise basis, such a broad directive of sorts is unprecedented, said industry executives. If implemented, it could cost private telecom and internet service providers (ISPs) thousands of crores in potential annual revenue, they said, adding that the smallest players would be the hardest hit as they survive on wafer-thin from government contracts constitute a big part of the enterprise revenue of all private telcos and ISPs. The adjusted gross revenue of the telecom industry from April-December 2024 stood at Rs 2,23,799 crore, with private players accounting for more than 92% similar letters, dated April 8, addressed to the chief secretaries of all states and Union Territories, DoT secretary Neeraj Mittal said, 'As BSNL/MNL are becoming competitive in the telecom sector, and in light of the Cabinet decision in the past, I request you to consider utilisation of the services of BSNL and MTNL by all departments/agencies/PSUs (public sector undertakings) of the state government for internet/broadband, landline and leased line requirements.'ET has seen a copy of the added that BSNL — which now runs MTNL's operations as well — would dedicate a separate one-stop nodal point to provide the highest level of services to the state DoT's suggestion could lead to the private sector players missing out on lucrative and typically long-term government sector governments and PSUs give contracts to private players through a tendering process, and the final bidder is selected based on the lowest the DoT's letter distorts the historic level playing field, according to private players, with the government siding with one particular industry executive said the idea behind carving out BSNL and MTNL from the DoT as a separate entity was to let the company function independently and to ensure that the government did not act as a regulator as well as the owner.'The government has been supporting BSNL through various financial packages, and it should compete in the market on its strengths and not through preference,' said the executive, who did not wish to be president of the Internet Service Providers Association of India, Rajesh Chharia, told ET that the government, which is the licensor, should be non-partial towards licensees, whether government or semi-government or PSU or private, for healthy competition among them.'The objective of the government should be the proliferation of broadband and internet rather than promoting any particular service provider. This way other operators will get discouraged and will not come forward for any promotional activity of the country, and people will start questioning patriotism if this partiality is done by the government or department,' he the DoT said the move was approved by the Cabinet in 2019 while approving the revival package for BSNL and letter said 'the Union Cabinet inter-alia had approved the mandatory utilisation of capacities of BSNL and MTNL for internet, landline, and leased line requirements by the Central government, in view of the data security needs.' It further said, 'On similar lines, state governments were also requested to utilise the network capacities of BSNL for their telecom requirements.'So far, the government has invested about Rs 3.22 lakh crore in BSNL and MTNL as part of three revival packages since 2019, including the roll-out of 4G a result of the revival packages, BSNL has sustained revenue increases and for the first time since 2007-08, the company achieved a net profit of Rs 262 crore in the third quarter of 2024-25.'BSNL has accelerated capex investment in the last two years to upgrade its network and telecom infrastructure pan India. A massive investment has been made in transmission equipment and optical fibre cable network,' the letter said. 'The capex is expected to put BSNL on a higher revenue growth trajectory in the future.'
