Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Softwoods Berhad (SSB) has hit back at recent claims and negative perceptions circulating online regarding the company's eucalyptus timber exports. In a statement, the company addressed what it termed as attempts to mislead the public about its operations and the broader image of Sabah's timber industry. A Facebook post regarding the company's eucalyptus timber exports sparked a wave of misinformed comments, with many suggesting that SSB was violating regulations and harming the environment. Datuk Mohd Arsad Bistari, Chairman of SSB, said the company's operations were fully compliant with Malaysian laws and closely monitored by the Sabah Forestry Department and Customs Department. 'We take these attempts to tarnish our reputation very seriously. SSB has always adhered to the highest standards of legality and sustainability in our timber exports. All of our operations are transparent, and we ensure full compliance with national regulations as well as international standards,' he said. He emphasised that SSB's operations are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a global authority that sets the benchmark for responsible forest management, as well as the Sabah Timber Legality Assurance System (TLAS), ensuring that timber is legally sourced and traceable through a certified supply chain. 'These certifications provide assurance that our timber is harvested in a way that protects the environment and the people of Sabah. 'We are proud of the work we do and the positive impact it has on the local community, especially through the benefits it brings to Yayasan Sabah,' he said. The Chairman also highlighted the historical significance of SSB's role in Sabah's timber industry, noting that the company had earned the trust of past leaders. He pointed to the decision by former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, who exempted SSB from the tropical log export ban in 2018, as recognition of the company's contribution to the state. Stonepeak Partners' Reported Acquisition Of Yinson Could Value The Deal At RM9 Billion
Yinson Holdings Bhd - FSO (FPSO) Helang New York-based infrastructure investment firm Stonepeak Partners is reportedly in exclusive negotiations to acquire Malaysian energy infrastructure company Yinson Holdings Berhad, in a deal that could value the company at up to RM9 billion (US$2.1 billion). The development was first reported by Bloomberg. According to analysis by CIMB Research, this valuation translates to approximately RM3.23 per share, based on Yinson's 2.784 billion existing shares. CIMB Research indicated that if the report proves accurate, these exclusive talks could pave the way for a privatisation offer for the remaining shares of Yinson. Yinson's current market capitalisation stands at around RM6.5 billion. CIMB Research noted that the exclusivity arrangement suggests the deal has entered advanced stages of negotiation. The Lim family, who founded Yinson, currently holds a significant 26.6% stake in the company. The research house also commented that Stonepeak's investment focus appears to align well with Yinson's strategic direction, particularly given Yinson's growing presence in floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) and renewable energy sectors. From a valuation perspective, CIMB Research highlighted that the indicative RM9.0 billion take-private valuation, equivalent to RM3.23 per share, implies a substantial 38.0% premium to Yinson's last closing price. Relative to CIMB Research's own target price of RM2.93, the proposed acquisition price would represent a slight premium of 10.2%, suggesting potential additional upside should a formal offer materialize. No plans to contest in any by-election after leaving Umno: Tengku Zafrul

In a statement posted on his social media today, Tengku Zafrul stressed that the possibility of running in a by-election was never part of his decision-making process when he chose to leave Umno. Advertisement 'I would like to make it clear that no discussion related to this matter ever took place, and it was not part of my consideration in making that decision. 'I strongly disagree with triggering by-elections without urgent necessity, as they consume both time and public funds,' he said. Addressing his resignation from Umno, Tengku Zafrul reiterated that it was a personal decision, made without external pressure. 'I acknowledge it was not an easy decision, but I carefully considered all views and opinions before arriving at it. I left the corporate world with the intention to contribute, and as long as my service is needed, I will continue to give without necessarily holding any position,' he said.
