
Dharavi redevpt: State tweaks norms for use of Kurla dairy land
The major reliefs include allowing transfer of development rights (TDR) on the land in lieu of constructing housing for slum-dwellers following the provisions of 33 (10) (A) of Development Control and Promotion Regulations (DCPR) 2034, permission to develop commercial components and their sale in the open market, said people in the know.
On June 14, 2024, the state government approved the transfer of the dairy plot for the project. The land was granted by charging only 25 percent of the ready reckoner rates on grounds that it was of vital public importance.
The plot was granted under Occupancy Class II category of Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, which gives conditional ownership to the occupant – which means the occupant cannot sell the land or sub-lease to a third party. The plot however can be segmented and amalgamated by seeking prior permission from the state government. These conditions have now been relaxed, revealed insiders.
'The state government has made all the provisions under 33(10)(A) of the DCPR 2034 applicable to the plot,' a senior official told Hindustan Times. 'It has also allowed the SPV to load TDR on the plot and construct commercial components there for sale,' he added.
'To facilitate the implementation of the project, the terms and conditions in the earlier resolution (issued on June 14, 2024) and the draft agreement by the Mumbai suburban district collector have been approved for alignment with the policies of the housing and urban development department. This will help maximize the availability of housing for the rehabilitation of Dharavi residents,' stated a release issued by the chief ministers' office (CMO) on Tuesday.
'Around 8.5 lakh families will be rehabilitated under the redevelopment project, of them, 5 lakh eligible families will be rehabilitated within Dharavi itself. Additional land is required to rehabilitate the remaining 3.5 lakh families. The availability of land in Kurla will help make this process easier and more feasible,' it stated further.
Dharavi spans 620 acres, of which 296 acres have been earmarked for redevelopment.

Revenue declined to ₹697 crore from ₹737 crore. Diageo-owned Royal Challengers Bengaluru reported revenue of ₹514 crore in FY25, down from ₹649 crore in FY24. In February 2025, RSVPL was declared the successful bidder by the England and Wales Cricket Board for acquiring a controlling stake in Manchester Originals.

Air India Cancels Milan-Delhi Flight Due To Maintenance Issue
Mumbai: Tata Group-owned private carrier Air India on Sunday said it cancelled its Milan-Delhi flight of August 16 after detecting a maintenance issue at the last minute. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly the passengers to their destination at the earliest, Air India said in a statement. "Flight AI138 operating from Milan to Delhi on August 16 was cancelled due to a maintenance task identified during pushback," the statement said. "Our ground team in Milan extended immediate assistance to all the affected passengers, providing hotel accommodation and offering full refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling as opted by the passengers," it said. According to Air India, along with the maintenance issue, the operating crew of the flight come under the mandatory flight duty-time limitation norms. Air India generally operates its Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft fleet to cater to European destinations. The airline, which came under private hands in January 2022, has, of late, been delaying, cancelling some flights at the last minute due to technical and maintenance issues. This is despite airline CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson repeatedly claiming that Air India has carried out comprehensive checks on its Boeing 787 aircraft fleet. A Delhi-bound Air India flight from Bhubaneswar was cancelled just prior to its departure on August 3 due to high cabin temperature. On July 31, an Air India Boeing 787-9 aircraft flying to London had to abort take-off at Delhi airport and return to the bay due to a technical issue. In a message to the customers recently, while listing out the various steps taken after the fatal crash of an AI-171 flight to London soon after take-off from the Ahmedabad airport, Wilson said detailed inspections of its Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft were done and "no issues were found during inspection".

More customers now rely on social media platforms for financial decisions
Consumers are increasingly turning to social media platforms to make big money decisions. One out of two financial services customers view personal finance and investment content across digital platforms owned by US tech giant Meta. A key driver of this trend is the rising appetite for financial content in short form videos and reels. At least 53 per cent of users on Facebook and 57 per cent on Instagram say that such media formats influence financial decision making, according to a joint survey by Meta and Ipsos, a global market research company. This comes at a time when about eight out of ten users utilise Meta-owned platforms to discover, evaluate and eventually buy a financial services product such as loans, insurance, savings or investments. Digital touchpoints continue to dominate the landscape. Eight digital touchpoints are bifurcated into six digital and two offline. Out of the six digital ones, three belong to users on their financial services purchase leads to better engagement with the products, the survey found. One of two watched related videos for additional information, nearly two of three engaged with the content via comments or discussions, and one of two clicked on ads to know more about the purchase.
