‘Blood Brothers' overtakes ‘Polis Evo 3' and ‘Sheriff: Narko Integriti' with RM62m in 20 days, sequel in the works
KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 — The action-packed Blood Brothers: Bara Naga, directed by Syafiq Yusof and Abhilash Chandra, has smashed past another milestone.
In a surprise announcement during a lively promotional stop in Bukit Bintang last night, production house Skop Productions and distributor Primeworks Studios revealed that Blood Brothers has raked in a massive RM62 million at the box office in just 20 days — including early screenings.
That figure sees the film overtaking two of Syafiq's previous blockbusters — Polis Evo 3, which grossed RM54 million, and Sheriff: Narko Integriti, which earned RM60.5 million last year.
The Bukit Bintang takeover also drew a large crowd of enthusiastic fans, who turned up in full force to cheer on the cast and directors.
Among those spotted at the event were stars Syafiq Kyle, Sharnaaz Ahmad and Irfan Zaini, along with Skop Productions founder and veteran filmmaker Datuk Yusof Haslam, and co-directors Syafiq and Abhilash.
Blood Brothers follows Ariff (Syafiq Kyle), a fiercely loyal bodyguard who is framed for betraying his crime family. Forced to go on the run, Ariff must prove his innocence with the help of his estranged brother Jaki (Syazwan Zulkifli), all while being hunted down by his former best friend Ghaz (Sharnaaz Ahmad), who now leads the elite force once known as the Blood Brothers.
The ensemble cast also features local talents such as Amelia Henderson, Shukri Yahaya, Zamarul Hisham and Andy Teh.
Following its phenomenal success, the story isn't over just yet. As reported by The Star, a sequel — Blood Brothers Part 2: Perang Naga — is officially in the works.
'It's been a fantastic ride. We just want to keep it going. We thank Malaysian fans for their incredible support,' said Abhilash during a recent fan meet at GSC Nu Sentral.
'The film was led by some very dedicated actors and actresses, and we're grateful for all their hard work.'
He also confirmed that most of the cast will be returning for the sequel.

Spike-tacular search for best durian
Cream of the crop: (From left) Loh and Lim admiring a variety of durian types in the competition held in Sungai Ara, Bayan Baru, Penang. — LIM BENG TATT/The Star GEORGE TOWN: The taste cannot be so overpoweringly sweet that a durian lover surrenders after just a few mouthfuls. The pulp should be moist but not until it resembles yoghurt. The size of the fruit should not be so large that it suggests the drawbacks of being overgrown, nor so small that it is likely to produce inferior arils. So many factors must be weighed before a durian can be declared 'king', and about 50 durian orchard owners and sellers brought their best fruits to pit against one another in a durian competition here. Dubbed the Sungai Ara Durian King Competition, chief judge Lim Keat Seong said the ideal size, based on the fruits' varieties, pulp texture and a balance between sweetness and pungent richness were essential in the judging process. Lim, an officer in the state's Agriculture Department, noted that durians from specific regions possess a unique after-taste that contributes to their overall character, making this aspect significant in the judging process as well. The competition featured three categories: Musang King, kampung, and hybrid. The top three winners in each category received RM1,000, RM600 and RM300 respectively. Durian entrepreneur Kenny Soong, 48, whose Tian Seng type durian was judged tops in the kampung durian category, said he never expected to win. 'There were so many other premium kampung durians in the competition; I am lucky and happy to win this,' he said. Yap Lan Eng, 57, bagged first prize in the Musang King category, improving on her second placing in the same competition last year. 'I use organic fertiliser and I tend the durian trees with great care to get fruits of the highest quality,' she said. Yap, who has been a durian farmer for over 25 years, said the winning durian came from her family's orchards, which span about 5ha. Lee Chooi Seng, 65, was top in the hybrid category with a 'Cheh Pui' (Hokkien for green skin) clone. 'There were many competitors and I had no expectations of winning,' he remarked. Lee said he relied on good organic fertiliser for his orchard in Bukit Sungai Ara, which has 200 trees. The competition was organised for the third year, and run by Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Sin. 'Our main goal in organising this durian festival and competition is to promote Sungai Ara's durians,' he said. Sim said many were unaware that Sungai Ara has 607ha of durian orchards, mostly held by small-scale farmers. During the event, some 1,800kg of durians were served to almost 1,000 visitors. Among the durian types that were available during the fiesta were Hor Lor, Ang Heh, Ang Jin, Bak Kia, Cheh Pui, and Black Thorn, among others. Among the visitors were 82- year-old grandmother V. Pahpah and her granddaughter, M. Tanushri, 14. She said she wouldn't miss the chance to taste the variety of durians for free. 'If you were to buy hybrid or premium durians elsewhere, the price would easily exceed RM30 per fruit,' she said. Friends Loh Jing Ting, 25, and Lim Ying Ying, 23, said they loved durians and were delighted to try some for free. 'It's not every day that we can feast like this,' said Loh. Lim pointed out that the queue was long, but it was worth the wait.

#SHOWBIZ: Zeroing in on RM60mil target
USAMAH Zaid Yasin, who directed "Ejen Ali The Movie 2" (EATM2), said the animated film can hit its RM60 million box office target. EATM2 has made history by raking in RM40.6 million in 13 days of screening. This figure surpasses the earnings of 2019's "Ejen Ali". Usamah expressed gratitude to audiences for their support, especially for watching the film with their families. "As for the RM60 million target, I'm leaving it to audiences to make it a reality. It's not impossible for EATM2 to achieve it." He said many viewers have watched the film multiple times, a trend he finds encouraging. "Despite other domestic films being screened at the same time as EATM2, 'Ejen Ali' is getting significant attention." Usamah also mentioned that the decision to continue screening EATM2 for several more weeks rests with cinemas, based on audience demand. "Usually, a film's reception is great for the first two weeks following its release. After that, screenings in certain places start to decrease. " But for EATM2, I believe the strong audience response will continue, and as I said, the RM60 million target is not impossible to achieve." Earlier, he announced that EATM2 will be released in phases in Singapore, Indonesia and Cambodia. The sequel, produced by Wau Animation in collaboration with Primeworks Studios and Komet Productions, premiered in Malaysian and Bruneian cinemas on May 22. Usamah, who is CEO of Wau Animation, recently attended an interview with Indonesian band Nidji. The band was chosen to perform "Teman Sejati", a song featured on the EATM2 soundtrack.
