In a recent interview, Georgian fighter Ilia Topuria made his stance clear regarding his next steps post the fight at
UFC 317
. While the fighter seems pretty confident about winning the lightweight title, he makes it clear to Islam Makhachev that the Dagestani fighter is not getting the title shot in the near future after Topuria conquers it.
'After this fight, when I have the belt, he might get in line, which is a long one, so more than one's eyes will be shining.' Topuria stated at the WOW press conference.
While the rivalry between the fighters brewed to no significant outcome, another lightweight contender got in line to call out Topuria through a recent Instagram post. Paddy Pimblett, who recently secured a stunning win against Michael Chandler, plans for a title shot this year itself. While initially, after his win at UFC 314, Paddy called out Charles Oliveira for his next bout, things might have changed in terms of the opponent. The Baddy might still have to face another lightweight contender before securing a title shot. In a recent interview with Paddy, it was revealed that Justin Gaethje might just be the perfect opponent for now. However, the English fighter is more interested in a direct title shot.
