Express train's termination at Tvm North stn leads to chaos
It has been more than a week since the train was shifted from Thiruvananthapuram Central, but adequate buses are not available for passengers who arrive by the train to reach the city, say passengers. The passengers are forced to pay exorbitant money to hire autos. The autos do not use the metre to charge passengers.
Passengers say that there is only one bus from the railway station when the train arrives at 7.40am and that too only to Thampanoor.
However, people who board the train from Kottayam, Chengannur, Kollam and other stations for work and to visit medical college hospital or regional cancer centre suffer because they have to spend on autos or taxis to reach the city, said Victor, who travels to the city for work from Kollam.
"The regular travellers will rush out of the station and board the waiting bus. But those who come occasionally often miss the bus and have to depend on the expensive autos and taxis," he added.

Liyons J from Friends on Rails said that many people who work in private companies are affected. "They are not able to punch in for work at 8am because of this change in terminal station without arranging alternative arrangements," he said.
The situation is worse for the commuter crowd in the evening as people are forced to cram into the Intercity and Vanchinad Express for their return journey every day. "There should be adequate KSRTC buses to help passengers board the train," he added.

‘Footfall at Mirzapur's Maa Vindhyavasini Temple may cross 1cr mark in 2025'
1 2 Lucknow: Footfall at Mirzapur's famed Maa Vindhyavasini Temple is likely to cross the 1 crore mark in 2025, shows data from the department of tourism. Data shows that over 64 lakh pilgrims have visited the temple in the first six months of 2025, speaking for a monthly average of over 10 lakh. This is significantly higher than the average monthly footfall of 6.5 lakh recorded in 2024, with the total being 78 lakh. "Though counting is still underway, numbers are expected to touch 10 lakh in July too. And if this trend continues, the footfall may cross 1 crore in 2025," said Jaiveer Singh, tourism minister. Officials said with the temple at the core, other places in Mirzapur are also benefitting from the surge. Take the example of the Ashta Bhuja Temple, which forms an important part of the Vindhyavasini Tribhuja pilgrimage. More than 38 lakh pilgrims who visited Vindhyavasini also visited the Ashta Bhuja Temple. In 2024, the total number of pilgrims recorded at this site was 55 lakh. Indications are that the neighbouring districts like Sonbhadra and Chandauli are also on the list of beneficiaries. "In Sonbhadra, the footfall in Shiv Dwar, which was previously largely popular with kanwariyas, has seen an unprecedented hike in the number of visitors," said a senior officer, adding that the numbers would be disclosed after the Hindu month of Shrawan concludes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Even Beautiful Women Have Their 'Oops' Moments Read More Undo Sitamarhi in Bhadoi is yet another example. Principal secretary, tourism and culture, Mukesh Meshram said: "Gone are the days when Mirzapur recorded seasonal tourism surge because the beauty of the rain-fed waterfalls peaked at that time. It is heartening to see people and pilgrims visiting the place all through the year." Director Eco Tourism, Uttar Pradesh Prakhar Mishra, said the surge was a result of concerted efforts made over the past few years. "While on one hand the good sites were flagged and projected, efforts are made to train key stakeholders to promote them in an organised way. The local community was also engaged, and local art and cuisine were integrated to ensure that tourism development was inclusive and employment-generating. As a result, the region is now full of options in village and farm tourism. Mirzapur and adjoining areas also offer options to adventure seekers," he said. Mishra noted that with the inclusion of Salkhan Fossil Park in Unesco's tentative list of world heritage sites will further bolster the efforts and footfall.

A French beach town's plea to tourists: Keep your clothes on in markets
A seaside town in France is clamping down on tourists who venture beyond the sand in their swimsuits. "A little restraint, please!" Yannick Moreau, the mayor of Les Sables d'Olonne, pleaded on social media last week to the flocks of mostly French tourists who visit each summer. Moreau said in an interview that the behaviour had become more prevalent in recent years. He said visitors leave the beach and walk into the town's markets, grocery stores and restaurants in their bathing suits. "If you go to a market to buy local food - fruits, vegetables, meat - you cannot be half-naked with hair falling onto vegetables," he said, adding, "It's a matter of decency." In July, officials in the resort town have issued fines to 10 people - all French tourists - of up to ₹150. That's the most fines handed out for the offence in July since the rule was introduced in 2020, Moreau said. "I don't know if it's a reflex to show one's muscles," he said. "Or to tan more quickly, and not lose an hour of sunlight." Les Sables d'Olonne, which Moreau said was one of the first seaside resorts in France, sits on the country's western coast and has miles of beaches. "It offers a huge space to be half-naked if you want," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How Retirees Can Potentially Minimize RMD Taxes SmartAsset Learn More Undo Or fully naked, since Sables d'Olonne has a nudist beach, too. Many cities have put similar rules in place in recent years, as European vacation towns grapple with a surge in visitors, including scantily clad ones. In some parts of Spain, it is illegal to wear just swimwear even on seafront promenades and adjacent streets, and fines can be hundreds of euros. On Thursday, the tourism board in Malaga took to social media to remind tourists of the rules, urging them to "dress completely. " In parts of Italy, including Sorrento, on the Amalfi Coast, tourists can be fined hundreds of euros for walking around shirtless to curb what the mayor described as "widespread indecorous behaviour." In Dubrovnik, Croatia, officials in 2018 issued a notice to tourists that they could not wander around the city in swimwear. The rule is about respect and hygiene, Moreau said. "When you're shoulder to shoulder with others on the bus to the beach, you do not want to be in contact with your neighbour's skin," he said. "Les Sables d'Olonne deserves to be better known," he said. "Come see us, we'll be happy to welcome you."
