Pinpoint Weather: Rainy, cooler first half of the week

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Damp and unseasonably cool conditions are anticipated across Southwest and Central Virginia for the next few days. Scattered light rain showers will pass through on Monday morning. Otherwise, Memorial Day will be mostly cloudy and cool. Highs will be in the upper 50s and 60s, about ten to fifteen degrees below average for this time of year. A cool-air wedge will keep Southwest and Central Virginia cloudy and unseasonably cool on Tuesday. Highs will be in the 50s and lower 60s. Warm, moist air aloft will result in periods of rain for the day. The wedge will start to break down Tuesday night into Wednesday. However, scattered showers will linger into Wednesday with some rumbles of thunder possible. Afternoon temperatures will range from the mid-60s to the lower 70s under mostly cloudy skies. One to two inches of rainfall are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. Localized flooding is a concern, especially in poor drainage areas. Stay weather-aware and alert when traveling. A cold front will pass through the region on Thursday. Showers are possible along the front, although rain coverage won't be as widespread. Showers and storms may pass through on Friday, too. Near-average temperatures will return for the second half of the week. Highs will be in the 70s. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Pinpoint Weather: Cool and cloudy Memorial Day; increasing rain chances this week

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Tonight won't be as chilly with lows in the low-to-mid 50s under mostly cloudy skies. Widely scattered showers will be possible areawide throughout the overnight hours into the morning; although, any rain will likely be light. Over Memorial Day tomorrow, mostly cloudy skies will be present with cool conditions and high temperatures ranging from the low to upper 60s. In terms of rain, we have trended drier with a slight chance for showers over the first half of the day mainly along and south of US-460. While spotty showers cannot be ruled out, most of the area should remain on the dry side through the afternoon into the evening. A low-pressure system developing off to our west will move into the region bringing widespread rain showers beginning Tuesday into Wednesday. Heavy rain at times may be possible, especially Tuesday night. Rain coverage becomes more scattered late Wednesday. Surface high pressure off to the northeast will begin to wedge a cool and cloudy airmass into southwest Virginia late Monday through Tuesday. This means that in addition to the rain on Tuesday, it will remain cool with high temperatures only reaching the mid 50s to mid 60s. Over the back half of the week, isolated showers and storms will remain possible during the afternoons with temperatures warming back up into the 70s. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
