Tommy Fury takes subtle dig at KSI and Jake Paul ahead of comeback
'TNT' is set to return to the ring this week after nearly two years away, but the Brit was eager to take a swipe at two of his long-time rivals ahead of his comeback
Tommy Fury has taken a brutal swipe at rivals KSI and Jake Paul as the boxing star prepares to return to action.
Last month, Fury confirmed he he will return to the boxing ring in May and is scheduled to take on Kenan Hanjalic this Friday in Budapest. 'TNT's' brother Roman will also feature on the undercard and is due to face 7-5 boxer Josip Pehar.
Fury hasn't fought since defeating social media sensation KSI back in October 2023. He was due to take on former UFC title challenger Darren Till earlier this year, but pulled out of the contest after his rival threatened to kick him in the head. While Hanjalic is an unknown figure in the world of boxing, the former Love Island star insists he's in for a tough fight on Friday night.
Speaking to Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, Fury quickly discussed his upcoming foe, while also throwing a stinging verbal jab at KSI and Paul. "I've got a proper legitimate fighter in front of me on Friday, there's no YouTubers...he's not phased by who I am and the name I've got, he's coming to fight," he said.
Earlier in the chat, Fury revealed that he's living the best year of his life after struggling with his split from Molly Mae and falling into a "dark place" over a hand injury. "Being in a position where boxing is everything, the fact that I couldn't do that or get out of bed in the morning and did what made me happy, I just thought, 'Sod it all.' You go down that dark route for a few weeks and you end up staying down there for a long time and that has consequences," he said.
"Like I said, 2024 was the worst year of my life and this year is going to be the best year of my life. It starts on Friday, I've turned it all around. I'm happy mentally now. I feel like you've got to go through these challenges in life, everyone's got a hard life so it's all about that I've come through this."
While many are expecting Fury to come away with the win, Hanjalic has vowed to do whatever it takes to get his hand raised on fight night. The Fury name is one of the most iconic family names in modern day boxing. Tommy's older brother Tyson is seen as the biggest name, having been a two-time world champion in his career - before announcing his retirement from the sport back in January.
However, Hanjalic insists 'names don't win fights' - as the Bosnian brawler sent a chilling warning to his upcoming foe ahead of their fight. He told All Out Fighting: "I come from Sarajevo and proudly represent Gladiator Club Sarajevo, with over 100 amateur fights behind me – each one shaping me into the fighter I am today. I'm stepping into the ring on May 9 in Budapest to face Tommy Fury with one mission – to win."
