Her heartbroken parents have now spoken out about the horror of watching their daughter take her last breaths. Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Kyra's father, Leonard, spoke about watching on in horror as his daughter sunk below the murky water three times while a lifeguard watched on and did nothing. He described seeing CCTV footage showing the 17-year-old life guard fail to act while standing in the exact spot his daughter drowned. Kyra vanished in August 2022 while attending the leisure centre with her family. Authorities were called but the youth was tragically found over an hour later. She had drowned in a body of water 2.68 meters deep despite a 17-year-old lifeguard managing to reach the exact point where she disappeared under the water. An inquest into Kyra's death heard that the lifeguard was unable to rescue her as the staff at Liquid Leisure were only qualified to perform "surface-water rescues." Kyra's parents are now battling for tighter safety measures to be implemented at leisure centres in the hopes of preventing another tragedy. They say that the lifeguard should have been able to rescue their daughter from drowning and are calling for better training to be provided. Man, 24, dies after falling into paddling pool in back garden and drowning in 'freak accident' Kyra's dad described CCTV footage showing the lifeguard standing in a "pool of bubbles" at Kyra's "pinpoint location" as his daughter took her last breath. He told how he felt the lifeguard was "never going to dive under" to save his daughter. Leonard added that the lifeguard had "not been trained, she was only trained in surface rescue" saying that the teen lifeguard was "not equipped with the right tools." Kyra's grief stricken family are pushing for safety regulations to be improved around water parks, asking for CCTV to be manned at all times. 7 Kyra's dad, Leonard, described watching footage of his daughter take her last breaths Credit: Good Morning Britain / X 7 Kyras mum, Heather, is calling for safety at leisure centres to be improved Credit: Good Morning Britain / X 7 An inquest ruled that Kyra's tragic death was unlawful Credit: PA The couple pointed out that no emergency plan or protocol was in place at the leisure centre. Kyra's mother, Heather, said that despite CCTV footage capturing her daughters death no staff were trained or briefed on how to respond in an emergency situation. CCTV footage at the pool was not being monitored she said, adding that it took more than an hour for the footage to be checked after emergency services arrived. Shortly after the CCTV was seen, a diver managed to locate Kyra and pull her body from the water. Kyra's tragic death was previously ruled as unlawful at an inquest. At the time the coroner commented on poor signage describing deep water as "shallow." The coroner, Heidi Connor, went on to describe the sings as "falsely reassuring." Ms Connor also commented on children being permitted to swim without buoyancy aids and parents not being advised to attend with a ratio of one adult per four children. Rachel Marcus, representing Kyra's devastated family, asked the coroner to consider a charge of gross negligence manslaughter by Liquid Leisure owner Stuart Marston. She also called for an additional charge of corporate manslaughter. The inquest found breaches included the lack of an emergency plan or a risk assessment. The park's owner was fined £80,000 in June 2024. 7 Kyra's parents said the youth had ambitions to become a footballer Credit: PA

Good Morning Britain star axed as brutal ITV budget cuts continue

A Good Morning Britain star will no longer appear on the ITV show as the broadcaster's plans to cut £15 million from its total budget continue. A familiar face from Good Morning Britain has been dropped amidst a wave of redundancies sweeping through ITV. ‌ US correspondent Noel Phillips is set to leave the breakfast show as part of ITV's cost-cutting measure s, which aim to slash an additional £15 million from its budget. ‌ Back in May, ITV unveiled plans to cut ties with nearly half of the 450 staff working on programmes like Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women. ‌ While discussions about Phillips' position are still underway, it's anticipated that he will be among those departing. The journalist joined Good Morning Britain in February 2021 after his stint at Sky News. ‌ His expected exit has raised alarm bells over diversity within the show, as reported by Deadline. There have been whispers of uncertainty surrounding the futures of Sean Fletcher and Marverine Cole, but ITV has since assured that both will stay on air. Phillips, who won a Royal Television Society award, has played a pivotal role in covering racial tensions both in the US and the UK for the programme. He shared a harrowing personal experience of being "mugged, racially assaulted and spat on" during a racial attack in Central London, reports the Express. Phillips' reporting has often placed him in the thick of the action; he was on the ground in Minneapolis amid protests following Daunte Wright's tragic death, where he found himself near live gunfire. As recently as last month, Phillips faced rubber bullets while covering riots in Los Angeles. ‌ Sources have revealed that GMB staff are "p****d off" over Phillips' departure, with another suggesting there's "less pressure [on ITV] to be seen to be doing the right thing" regarding diversity. An ITV spokesperson disclosed to Deadline: "In 2026, Good Morning Britain will continue to have the familiar line-up of presenters that we know viewers love. ITV is fully committed to our diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy, and the representation on our shows will remain a priority." ‌ The network has unveiled plans for a major overhaul of their daytime TV offerings starting in 2026. Come the new year, Lorraine Kelly will bid farewell to her hour-long programme as it shifts to a 9.30am to 10am slot, airing only 30 weeks per annum. During Lorraine's downtime, Good Morning Britain will fill the gap by extending its broadcast until 10am, tacking on an additional hour. The revamp also sees GMB's usual 6am to 9am timeslot permanently stretched to 9.30am, with production moving from ITV Studios to ITN following a fresh five-year deal. While This Morning retains its 10.30am to 12.30pm slot, Loose Women faces a cutback, set to air just 30 weeks each year in a seasonal format.

Minister dismisses idea of split in Cabinet over Palestinian statehood

Israel announced at the weekend that it would suspend fighting in three areas of Gaza for 10 hours a day and open secure routes for aid delivery Health Secretary Wes Streeting is among those to have signalled a desire for hastened action calling for recognition 'while there's still a state of Palestine left to recognise'. While Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the Government wants to recognise a Palestinian state 'in contribution to a peace process'. Speaking to Good Morning Britain, Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said: 'There's no split. The whole of the Labour Party, every Labour MP, was elected on a manifesto of recognition of a Palestinian state, and we all want it to happen. 'It is a case of when, not if.' He added: 'It's about how we use this moment, because you can only do it once to have a meaningful breakthrough.' He had earlier told Sky News that recognition would happen 'in this Parliament [..,.] if it delivers the breakthrough that we need'. Later this week, the Prime Minister is expected to chair a Cabinet meeting on the conflict. The UK is working with Jordan to airdrop aid into Gaza and evacuate children needing medical assistance, with military planners deployed for further support. Humanitarian aid is airdropped to Palestinians over Gaza City (Jehad Alshrafi/AP) However, the head of the UN's Palestinian refugee agency has warned such efforts are 'a distraction' that will fail to properly address deepening starvation in the strip, and could in some cases harm civilians. Images and warnings of starvation emerging from Gaza in recent days have piled pressure on the Israeli government over its conduct in the conflict. The Prime Minister held crisis talks with French and German counterparts on Saturday, during which Number 10 said they agreed 'it would be vital to ensure robust plans are in place to turn an urgently-needed ceasefire into lasting peace'. A Downing Street readout of the call made no mention of Palestinian statehood, which Sir Keir has faced calls to immediately recognise after French president Emmanuel Macron announced his country would do so in September. Some 221 MPs from Labour, the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, SNP, Greens, Plaid Cymru, SDLP and independents have signed a letter pressuring the Government to follow suit at a UN meeting next week. The majority of those who have signed, 131, are Labour MPs.

Fern Britton admits struggle not to 'bad-mouth' Phil Vickery to their daughter

Former This Morning host, Fern Britton, divorced celebrity chef, Phil Vickery, in 2020 after two decades together and welcoming the couple's daughter, Winnie, into the world Fern Britton has admitted it's not easy keeping quiet about her ex Phil Vickery when she's with the couple's daughter, Winnie. The former This Morning host, 67, called it quits with the celebrity chef, 64, in 2020 after two decades together. Fern has revealed that she and Phil no longer speak and admitted she finds it hard not to 'bad-mouth' her ex to their daughter, 23, as she lifted the lid on the family's dynamic. Explaining that Winnie "adores" her dad, she said: "Winnie adores him. I'm not going to bad-mouth him in front of her; at least, I try very hard not to. I was the child of divorced parents and my mum never bad-mouthed my father." ‌ ‌ The veteran presenter made the candid comments in Yours magazine, where she claims Phil "stopped talking" to her six years ago. In 2020, speaking to Good Morning Britain, heartbroken Fern revealed the personal struggles that led to their separation, as she explained: "My mum died and my father died and unfortunately Phil and I fell apart." However, later speaking to Woman and Home magazine, she explained that the former couple's lives would always be intertwined, despite their differences, revealing: "We simply needed to follow our own paths. Over time we realised we weren't necessarily having the kind of life we once did. It seemed right to say 'thank you' and move on. But we do have a good friendship." "Phil and I had the greatest fun together and we have the most beautiful daughter together, Winnie... so we will always be connected." Fern has previously spoken about her own parents' relationship, explaining how she and her sister, scriptwriter, Cherry Britton, were always given "some convoluted stories" about why their father, Tony Britton, "wasn't here". Tony and his first wife Ruth, Fern's mother, divorced when she was just four years. Writing in her autobiography The Older I Get How I Repowered My Life, the Celebrity Big Brother star explains how she discovered she had no memories of her father living with her. ‌ She revealed by the time she was born in 1957, Tony had already left her mother to be with Eva Castle, who would become his second wife. She wrote: "It transpired that during one visit of a few hours back to see her, he and my mum had temporarily rekindled their feelings and I was conceived. "Did he go back to his new partner with a – possibly – guilty spring in his step? How did he manage to explain my eventual appearance to his future wife?" ‌ After only finding the truth when she was aged 55, Fern admitted: "I was left with a strong feeling of 'why did nobody say?' Everyone knew,' adding that is had left her was lasting trust issues." Fern split from her first husband, Clive, after more than a decade together and the birth of their three kids, twins Jack and Harry and daughter Grace. They called it quits officially in 2000, and later that year, she tied the knot with Phil.

Noel, who was clad in safety protection gear as rioters battled cops over immigration raids, then said: "I do apologise for language you are hearing, tensions are very high here." Good Morning Britain favourite Ranvir then cut in and addressed the "profanities" broadcast before she apologised. She said: "I'm just going to interrupt that - I think we could hear some profanities going on near Noel." She continued: "Of course we can't really broadcast this at 8.09am but we are going to try to get back to him," before cutting the live broadcast and instead introducing a pre-recorded segment Noel had filmed on the standoff. One fan was quick to flag the incident on social media and raged: "Nearly choked on my cornflakes! Never expected that bystander's sweary rant on @GMB." Noel was hit by a rubber bullet yesterday while reporting on the riots. Later in the show, he told how he was doing "much better than I was" after being pelted by the golf ball size device, which left a "huge wound." POTUS Donald Trump has sent 700 US Marines and another 2,000 National Guard troops to LA to defend the city from immigration raid riots. Violent protests have spread across the US over the past 24 hours with lawless demonstrators arrested in California, New York and Texas. GMB's Richard Madeley sparks concern as he reveals mystery injury live on TV The City of Angels has been engulfed in anarchy over the past four days as rioters have burned cars and battled with cops. A defiant Trump has called for a quick end to the protests so he can enforce his immigration policy. The President has claimed LA - a sanctuary city - has now been "invaded" by illegal immigrants. He raged "If they spit, we'll hit" after reports of masked rioters spitting in the face of cops emerged. Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass insisted the federal troops only escalated the peaceful protests into riots on Sunday night. It has been a chaotic week for GMB on-screen.
