Good Morning Britain star axed as brutal ITV budget cuts continue
A familiar face from Good Morning Britain has been dropped amidst a wave of redundancies sweeping through ITV.
US correspondent Noel Phillips is set to leave the breakfast show as part of ITV's cost-cutting measure s, which aim to slash an additional £15 million from its budget.
Back in May, ITV unveiled plans to cut ties with nearly half of the 450 staff working on programmes like Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women.
While discussions about Phillips' position are still underway, it's anticipated that he will be among those departing.
The journalist joined Good Morning Britain in February 2021 after his stint at Sky News.
His expected exit has raised alarm bells over diversity within the show, as reported by Deadline. There have been whispers of uncertainty surrounding the futures of Sean Fletcher and Marverine Cole, but ITV has since assured that both will stay on air.
Phillips, who won a Royal Television Society award, has played a pivotal role in covering racial tensions both in the US and the UK for the programme. He shared a harrowing personal experience of being "mugged, racially assaulted and spat on" during a racial attack in Central London, reports the Express.
Phillips' reporting has often placed him in the thick of the action; he was on the ground in Minneapolis amid protests following Daunte Wright's tragic death, where he found himself near live gunfire. As recently as last month, Phillips faced rubber bullets while covering riots in Los Angeles.
Sources have revealed that GMB staff are "p****d off" over Phillips' departure, with another suggesting there's "less pressure [on ITV] to be seen to be doing the right thing" regarding diversity.
An ITV spokesperson disclosed to Deadline: "In 2026, Good Morning Britain will continue to have the familiar line-up of presenters that we know viewers love. ITV is fully committed to our diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy, and the representation on our shows will remain a priority."
The network has unveiled plans for a major overhaul of their daytime TV offerings starting in 2026.
Come the new year, Lorraine Kelly will bid farewell to her hour-long programme as it shifts to a 9.30am to 10am slot, airing only 30 weeks per annum.
During Lorraine's downtime, Good Morning Britain will fill the gap by extending its broadcast until 10am, tacking on an additional hour.
The revamp also sees GMB's usual 6am to 9am timeslot permanently stretched to 9.30am, with production moving from ITV Studios to ITN following a fresh five-year deal.
While This Morning retains its 10.30am to 12.30pm slot, Loose Women faces a cutback, set to air just 30 weeks each year in a seasonal format.

Coronation Street to welcome new family who will run Rovers Return
Catherine Tyldesley's character Eva Price, who was last seen on the show in 2018, will return alongside her latest partner and his mother, who are both new to the cobbles. Shameless actor Aaron McCusker stars as Eva's partner Ben Driscoll, with Father Ted's Pauline McLynn playing his interfering mother Maggie. Ben's two sons and Eva's daughter Suzie will also be joining the cast. Residents will discover that Eva and Ben are the new landlords in October, more than seven years after Eva stopped pulling pints to start a new life in France with her daughter. Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks said: 'We are beyond thrilled that Eva is returning as the landlady of the Rovers, with her new blended family in tow. 'The Driscolls do not arrive quietly, so expect big drama, explosive secrets and raucous knees ups galore. To have actors of Catherine, Aaron and Pauline's considerable calibre at the beating heart of this family is absolutely wonderful, and we can't wait for you to get to know and fall in love with them as much as we have already done. 'Strap yourselves in, it's going to be an exciting and eventful ride.' A host of stars have left the British soap this year including Sue Cleaver, who spent 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw. Among the others who have left are Colson Smith, who played Craig Tinker on the ITV soap opera, and Luca Toolan, who played Mason Radcliffe.

ITV are said to have been keen on signing him for some time - and bosses think they have found the ideal vehicle. A huge hit in Norway, The Box sees a dozen celebrities placed in separate boxes, each with a daring challenge to complete. It has been described as a cross between I'm A Celebrity and SAS: Who Dares Wins. A source told The Sun: 'The Box is massive in Norway, and the rights were quickly sold to Denmark and now the UK. They have long been sniffing around Gary and just needed to find the right format for him. Source "ITV are really excited about it - and believe they have finally found a worthy successor to Saturday Night Takeaway. 'They have long been sniffing around Gary and just needed to find the right format for him. 'They're confident they've found that now, and the BBC's loss is their gain.' A TV insider said: 'The scheduling hasn't yet been confirmed but filming takes place in the autumn, and the series is due to air early spring. 'It looks likely to get a Saturday night slot though, but obviously it's all still to play for.' Gary Lineker tears up as he bids emotional farewell to iconic Match of the Day after controversial BBC axe Ant and Dec's long-running show ended in April last year - and ITV have struggled to replace it. Lineker had been a fixture on BBC Saturday night screens for 26 years as host of Match of the Day. For the past eight years, he has been the BBC's highest paid broadcaster. Last month he still topped its annual pay league, earning £1.35million. He was due to quit the BBC after next summer's World Cup but was forced out in May after sharing a controversial post about Zionism on Instagram. 5 The new show is touted as the successor to Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway Credit: Rex 5 Lineker was a fixture on BBC Saturday night screens for 26 years Credit: BBC The dad of four — who had previously faced a string of controversies at the BBC — apologised but accepted his position was 'untenable'. The former Leicester, Everton and Barcelona striker won 80 caps for England. He then moved full-time into broadcasting after his retirement in 1994. His new show The Box has been watched by more than a million people in Norway — a fifth of the population.
