ESPN ranks Georgia QB Gunner Stockton among college football's most important players
He notably led the Bulldogs to an overtime victory against Texas after Carson Beck suffered an injury in the second half of the SEC championship. He put up a solid effort in his first career start during the College Football Playoff against Notre Dame, despite the loss.
"Georgia has the highest floor in the sport," wrote ESPN's Bill Connelly. "But the Dawgs' ceiling will be defined by Stockton and a receiving corps that didn't do nearly enough for its QBs last season."
Connelly ranks Stockton as the second-most important player in the country behind Texas QB Arch Manning. Georgia has talent at every position, but Stockton is one of Georgia's biggest questions entering the 2025 season.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart went inside the transfer portal got two impact players with Zachariah Branch (USC) and Noah Thomas (Texas A&M). These two bring a new flavor for the Georgia offense. Colbie Young returns as well after dealing with off-field issues last year. Wide receiver coach James Coley got one five-star and multiple four-star receivers to add to the depth of the wide receiver position. Connelly ranks Branch as the 20th-most important players in the country and considers him to be one of the nation's most important non-QBs in the country. Overall, Stockton should have plenty of weapons this year.
With a full offseason under his belt the offense will be catered to Stockton's skills and he has a chance to bring back consistency to the UGA offense.
