Primark's £2 festival 'essential' means you don't need umbrellas

Daily Mirror9 hours ago

People have praised the 'super handy' item that is going to be a lifesaver over the summer months
Primark is selling a cheap and practical item that will be an essential for anyone attending outdoor summer events. If the weather takes a typical British turn and sunshine becomes a downpour, you'll be grateful.
Posting on TikTok, user Georgie (@_georgiewillis) showed the cheap £2 item that was filling a whole section of Primark. The Water Resistant Raincoat was labelled with a £2 price tag and shoppers could pick from a clear or pink version.

Georgie posted that these affordable and reusable raincoats would be ideal for festivals as well as anyone going to the final shows of Beyonce 's Cowboy Carter tour. Beyonce rounds off her UK concert dates on Monday, June 16 at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

She called the folded-up coat, which fit into the palm of her hand, a "solid Primark find." It attracted dozens of people from all over the internet who all had opinions.
One said: "Best thing I bought. Super handy and stayed dry! Was able to fit back into the bag with no problems." Another added: "As members of the British public, we all understood. Tell me it's festival season without telling me!"
A third wrote: "My grandma used to carry these in her handbag. Glad to see them making a comeback!" Someone else commented: "This is a UK summer essential!"
And, a fifth shared: "I wore this the other week. It fit back into the bag easy. Went down to around my knees."
Some claimed that the coats were "not that good." One shared: "Wouldn't bother. I used them last week, and they fell apart" and another added: "From personal experience, they are NOT rain resistant!"

The coats aren't available to order online, meaning shoppers will have to look in their nearest Primark branch for one. Someone in Georgie's video told shoppers not to look with other coats and jackets - as you won't find them there.
Instead, she said: "In the Birmingham one, they're by the luggage section grouped with some handheld electric fans. Not sure about other branches though!"
In other Primark news, if the sunshine sticks around, the discount fashion store has lots of popular items that people are racing to add to their summer wardrobe. Shoppers were thrilled by the sight of this £10 bow-detailed top as well as this £5 basic sleeveless top that "could pass" for something twice the price at Zara.

TikTok influencer in horror blast as backyard sauna explodes

Model Dominique Elissa had a 'crazy, traumatising, near-death experience' when she said she was nearly killed by an exploding sauna before hosting a wellness retreat in Australia A TikTok influencer has told how she nearly died in a horror explosion when a sauna at a wellness retreat exploded a day before she was due to host an event. Australian model and podcast host Dominique Elissa had the near death experience as she was planning a sauna sweat out during a peaceful break in a holiday home just outside Byron Bay. The influencer, 30, started up the warming process before going inside and preparing dinner, hoping it would reach her desired heat by the time she was finished. But, instead of enjoying a meal and preparing for the next day, she was subject to a "crazy, traumatising, near-death experience". ‌ ‌ She told her TikTok followers in a video that has now racked up 90,000 views that she turned on the sauna as she had done the night before, and was about to get her swimming costume on when she heard a "boom". Dominique explained: "I finish eating dinner and I'm about to put my swimmers on to go in the sauna, and I hear 'boom'. I look up and the entire sauna exploded." She added that the explosion was so powerful it ejected debris 10 to 15 metres into the air, and that she was left helpless while screaming for help. She said: "My phone was about to die, and I had no reception. I was screaming, 'Help, someone help me!' It was like a horror movie'. While she was eventually able to get hold of local authorities, they were unable to save the sauna. Dominique said the experience was the "most horrific thing", as she was just a few minutes from entering the sauna when it exploded and burned down. She said: "(It) burned to the ground. It was the most horrific thing to experience because I was only a few minutes from going into that sauna'. "I'm so grateful to be alive, so grateful to be here." Her shocked followers were quick to comment under her confession, with some likening the experience to a horror movie. One commenter said the events were "straight out of a Final Destination movie', and another added: "New fear unlocked." Another user chimed in saying they had never heard of anything like it, adding: "That is insane! This is the first time I've heard about a sauna exploding!!! They are so popular atm!" Other commenters were worried for their own safety, with saunas becoming increasingly trendy, especially in the wellness community. One follower said: "Noooo this is so scary, I just become obsessed with this trend."

'I'm a baby name expert - one classic boys name is on the brink of extinction'

Baby name consultant SJ Strum says ten everyday dad monikers are 'falling off a cliff' when it comes to new arrivals and reveals the reasons why in our exclusive chat It's one of the most important decisions an expectant parent can make but choosing the name of your new arrival can prove tricky too. From names inspired by favourite TV characters to truly unique monikers, there of thousands of choices out there making the decision a difficult one. Consultant SJ Strum is on hand to help mums and dads-to-be name their babies and with Father's Day around the corner she's shared the ten 'dad' names on the brink of extinction. And topping the unhappy list is a very familiar name. ‌ "They're just not fun and exciting to modern parents choosing names today," said SJ. "Names like this go out of style and have a huge hiatus from the charts so you might not hear of another baby with that name for many decades but suddenly the name will become fresh and new again." ‌ READ MORE: 'I named my baby Evie before the Peppa Pig announcement - now I'm scared she will be oinked at' 1. Steve 2. Colin 3. Craig 4. Derek ‌ 5. Gareth 6. Tyrone 7. Phil ‌ 8. Wolfgang 9. Sameer 10. Roger ‌ The previously popular names were given to just 20 British children combined in 2024 and SJ can explain why. "Names all go in a cycle and while we all know a Steve and a Gareth, if you track their popularity it fell off a cliff after the '90s," she said. "They haven't aged well. "That's because we have a lot of associations with these names, whether our dad, our dad's mates, a bit geography teacher," added the baby name consultant. "There's something about: 'Will you change Phil's nappy? Will you give Derek a bottle? that just doesn't sounds right." The baby name consultant said a change in the way we name our children was another factor for common dad names declining in popularity. "If your dad was called Steve, the first born son was traditionally called Steve but that tradition has died out over the last few years," she said. "Parents are looking for something a bit different and unique and special for their babies." ‌ But SJ insists that decades on, the unpopular monikers WILL make a comeback, just like the 'grandma' names such as Betty, Mabel and Gigi rising in popularity today after a hiatus of 100 years or more. "These names have become vintage cool," she says. "So we will definitely see these dad names come back up but it won't be for a long time." As well as a new found love for vintage names, today's parents look to their own personalities and interests for inspiration. "At the moment it's all about the Wild West country names," said SJ. "Beyonce's bringing out her country hit and people love the TV show Yellowstone. Everyone's wearing the cowboy hats and boots and that style just blends into names. ‌ "I'm seeing Cassidy, Harlow and Billie for a girl on a lot of lists, Dusty too and I absolutely love it. Another huge trend is for fantasy or celestial names like Luna and Cosmo. "A lot of parents nowadays are most spiritual," said SJ. "These names invoke mysticism and power." The leading baby name expert's top tips for choosing a name for your new arrival include agreeing on your name's style and criteria before you start discussing it. "Do we want vintage or modern, do we want a long or a short name, do we want a name that honours somebody in our family?" said SJ, who is the author of a bestselling guide called Baby Name Envy. ‌ The writer's second piece of expert advice is turning to a particular aesthetic or a passion. "If reading or travel is your passion, take a look at names within that theme," she advised. But despite careful planning, sometimes unexpected events can throw a spanner in the works when it comes to naming your children. The recent arrival of Peppa Pig's little sister Evie has left mums of baby Evies wondering if they had made the right decision and people called Alexa have accused Amazon of ruining their name with their popular digital assistant. "I had somebody write into the consultancy, she had an Elsie and an Anna," said SJ of the hugely popular kids' movie Frozen. "Somebody else wrote in with a Harry and Meghan. What are the chances?" The baby name consultant is working with Etsy, the home of personalised gifts. "Seeing your name on a piece of personalised homeware or something you can wear is such a beautiful gift and Etsy is the home of these," she said.
