Chris Cornell's pals create tribute supergroup King Ultramega
The Soundgarden frontman - who died in 2017 - is being remembered by pals and former bandmates with the King Ultramega project which will feature a rotating line-up of musicians recording new versions of his tracks to bring in funds for the the MusiCares organisation.
Metal Allegiance rocker Mark Menghi, who organised the project, said "There is not a singular moment in time that led to this project. It was a trail of events that led to the formation of King Ultramega and the evolving creation to pay tribute to the voice of a generation."
The first iteration of King Ultramega features Menghi on bass with Alice In Chains frontman William DuVall taking on vocal duties, Mastodon rocker Bill Kelliher plays guitar and Anthrax's Charlie Benante behind the drums.
They have recorded a cover of Rusty Cage, which featured on Soundgarden's 1991 album Badmotorfinger.
The next line-up will include Cornell's Soundgarden bandmate Kim Thayil, who said: "I'm super honored to record alongside all the amazing musicians appearing on the King Ultramega project.
"I'm equally proud that it celebrates Soundgarden in this tribute to the songwriting of Chris. Ultra-admirably, everyone's participation is supporting the work of the MusiCares Foundation."
The news comes after it was revealed new Soundgarden album featuring Cornell could finallt see the light of day.
On the eighth anniversary of the Grunge legend's death (18.05.25), bassist Ben Shepherd has revealed there is an album they made with the Black Hole Sun singer before his passing, which is "yet to be named", suggesting it could be released in the future.
In a post on Instagram on the anniversary, Shepherd wrote : "As I wait for my son Noah to get out of school today I'm thinking about … well actually it's stuck in my head and's been there since early this morning like a proud spring bird dammit.
'Its a song Chris and Matt wrote The Road Less Traveled for our album that has yet to be named, just hearing Chris' voice helps, I know he did that for everyone he knew … help them, he did for me, filled with self doubt and indebtedness and in just his tone knew what I was going through and forgave me like he always did even when he was older.
"It's at this point of recording all of our previous albums I'd get this overwhelming hit of awe, camaraderie, power of creativity, majesty even, and love, from the music, and my bandmates ... and I guess just pure life force.
'I can tell you, it feels good and invigorating to hear Chris singing from over that horizon and hear the mighty… mighty life, of souls sharing. To hear, as a fan … and band member, a song or two Chris brought in a few years ago turn before my very ears and finger blisters into a full blown Soundgarden tune is like feeling a glacier fall away off your chest."

Hulk Hogan 'couldn't have been prouder' of son Nick
Hulk Hogan's widow believes the late wrestler "couldn't have been prouder" of his son. The wrestling legend - whose real name was Terry Bollea - passed away after suffering cardiac arrest on Thursday (24.07.25), aged 71, and to mark Nick Hogan's 35th birthday on Sunday (27.07.25), Sky Daily paid a touching tribute to her stepson as she thanked him for his "strength and heart". Sky wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Hulk with his arms around Nick: 'Happy birthday @nickhogan! We love you so much. "Your dad couldn't have been prouder of the son you are… loyal, loving, hard-working, and always there when it mattered most. 'The strength and heart you've shown all along means more than I can say. "I'm so grateful for you, and I know Terry felt the same every single day.' Nick - whose mother is Hulk's first wife Linda Hogan - thanked Sky for her kind words. He replied: 'Thank you so much Sky, I really appreciate everything you did for my father and are doing for all of us at this time." Meanwhile, Nick paid tribute to his late father over the weekend and remembered the wrestler as his "hero". He wrote on Instagram: "My dad was the most incredible person I've ever known and will always be my hero. He was the most kind, loving and amazing father anybody could ask for. I feel so blessed to have had the greatest dad in the world. He was not only the best dad but also my mentor and my best friend. He always has been my best friend and I love him and miss him more than I could ever explain. "I thanked him for everything he has ever done for me and told him how much I loved him and hugged him every chance I got. I spent a lot of time with him the past few years after moving back to Florida to be closer to him and I am so grateful for those memories. They are the best moments in my life." Nick admitted that he'll miss his dad "forever". He said: "I will always remember the lessons and advice he gave me and carry on in a way that I know would make him proud. Thank you for being the best dad in the world and thank you for being my best friend. I love you so much Big Dog and I will miss you forever. (sic)" Nick has also thanked his social media followers for their messages of support since his dad passed away. He wrote: "Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me and comforted me over the last few days. It truly means a lot. I'm sorry to everyone I have not responded to yet. This has been overwhelming and extremely difficult. Hearing so many kind words and stories about my dad's life, interactions and experiences with everyone has been incredible and comforting."

Golden Globes host's epic tribute to Perth after live show
Comedian Nikki Glaser is known for her devastating roasts on Hollywood's elite, but the touring star had only kind words to say about Perth as she departed the State following her Friday night show at Perth HPC. Gaining a new legion of fans after hosting the Golden Globes in January, the 41-year-old American brought her popular Alive & Unwell tour to Australia earlier this month. Sharing her favourite moments to Instagram from the back end of her tour, Glaser celebrated her brief WA stay by rocking a 'Perth' embossed red T-shirt and cork hat as she embraced Aussie culture. 'Brisbane! Adelaide! Perth! You gave me the biggest crowds and some of the very best shows of my life. I don't know what I'm going to do with these Vegemite and mushroom lady jokes now,' she told fans. 'Thank you for making me feel so welcome in your incredible country. And turns out, I look stunning in a cork hat? I'm already figuring out when I can come back. I love you!' Nikki Glaser enjoyed her time in Perth as she toured Australia. Credit: Nikki Glaser/IG / IG Glaser has made a habit of donning merch emblazoned with her local crowd's location, as seen in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide. However, the comic's deviation from her signature low-cut dresses was not Glaser's only attempt to ingratiate herself with locals. Audiences expressed their appreciation at hearing Daryl Braithwaite's iconic Horses anthem ringing out at her shows. 'Nikki Glaser becoming a Braithmate was not on my 2025 bingo card!' one fan said. Another declared, 'it was the most fun show ever!' after seeing the sharp-witted comic in Perth. If you'd like to view this content, please adjust your . Glaser has enjoyed a near 20-year stand-up career, but arguably broke into the upper echelon of TV comics in 2024 following her viral Tom Brady Roast performance. The crowd-pleaser followed that up with her HBO comedy special Someday You'll Die later in the year, earning her first Emmy nomination. And the star's rise and rise has not yet reached its ceiling, with Glaser confirmed to be reprising her role as host of the Golden Globes in 2026.
