Makhoye to balance his 9-to-5 job with coaching Orbit College in Premiership

TimesLIVE6 days ago
Orbit College coach Pogiso Makhoye has no intention of leaving his job as an IT manager at the Rustenburg-based TVET college to focus on coaching the club in the Betway Premiership this season.
Makhoye said the plan was to continue doing his day job at Orbit and his technical team will oversee the training sessions of the top-flight team owned by the institution to prepare the club for matches.
The coach guided Orbit to winning the Premier Soccer League promotional playoffs last month while he was working as an IT technician at the college. He said he was going to continue balancing his nine to five job with full time coaching in the Premiership.
'I have a knowledgeable technical team. I don't need to be there,' Makhoye said.

Khune shares his views on Kaizer Chiefs new signings

Amakhosi have announced six signings so far. Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has called on the Amakhosi faithful to be patient with the club's new signings and give them a fair chance, particularly striker Flavio Silva. Chiefs have bolstered the squad with six new additions ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. OPINION – New season, same old Kaizer Chiefs? Amakhosi have signed Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane from Orlando Pirates. In addition, have secured the services of left back Nkanyiso Shinga, midfielders Ethan Chislett and Siphesihle Ndlovu, as well as striker Flávio Silva. While the other players seemed to have adapted quicker to the club's playing style under coach Nasreddine Nabi, Silva has struggled to fit into the system. 'When you talk about Paseka Mako and when you talk about Thabiso Monyane, they are bringing that winning mentality from Orlando Pirates,' said Khune. 'Of course, we need to give Silva a fair turn,' Khune added. 'We only just debate him in the first games that we've seen him play, but he's definitely going to show us what he can bring to South African football.' Silva, who has faled to score in the first few outings for Chiefs during the preseason, has faced criticism with many doubting if he has the qualities to solve the goalscoring issue at Amakhosi. 'Strikers thrive on confidence, and he's still settling into a new environment, new teammates, and a different style of football. Let's back him,' Khune concluded.

'Kaizer Chiefs are ready to compete': Sundowns legend hypes Amakhosi

Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has been impressed with Kaizer Chiefs and tipped them as a team to watch this season. Amakhosi spent three weeks in the Netherlands for their pre-season where they played several friendly matches with Dutch teams. In the five matches, Chiefs only won once but it was their performance that left fans uninspired. On Saturday, Nasreddine Nabi's men went down 3-2 on penalties to Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup. Kekana though, feels Kaizer Chiefs were impressive during the match and were unlucky not to win this past weekend. 'I've seen a better Kaizer Chiefs. I've seen a team that wants to win football matches,' Kekana told Soccerzone . 'I've seen distances in the midfield. I've seen distances as a team in the structure. You can tell this is a team that wants to compete this season,' he added. Amakhosi fans will have to wait until 10 August until their see their players in action for the first time this season. The MTN8 kicks off this weekend but for the second season running, the Glamour Boys will not be in the competition having finished outside the top 8. With six new players signed, Kaizer Chiefs will look to start the season strongly when they face Stellebosch FC in their opening Betway Premiership encounter on 10 August.
