BTS' Jungkook targeted in house break-in attempt just day after his discharge; Chinese 'fan' arrested
Fan – a term used to describe people who typically admire or enjoy a person or form of art—whether it's music, dance, or other creative expressions. But sometimes, admiration crosses the line into obsession. In South Korea, such extreme fans are known as "sasaeng fans"—a term that sadly fits the recent incident involving globally renowned BTS member, Jungkook.
Shockingly, the incident took place on June 11—the very day Jungkook was discharged from the South Korean military after completing his mandatory service. A Chinese woman in her 30s was arrested for attempting to break into the Seoul home of the BTS maknae, just hours after his return to civilian life.
What is a "sasaeng fan"?
Sasaeng, or sasaeng fan, is a South Korean term used to describe obsessive fans who cross personal boundaries and invade the privacy of K-pop idols, actors, and other celebrities. These fans are often linked to extreme behaviors, with stalking being one of the most notorious.
Chinese 'fan' arrested trying to enter Jungkook's home
According to Yongsan police, the woman was caught attempting to enter the front door passcode multiple times around 11:20 PM, after officers responded to a neighbour's alarm.
The "fan" reportedly told authorities that she had come to Korea specifically to see Jungkook, who had just been discharged as a sergeant from the 5th Artillery Brigade on June 11.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine her motives and whether this was a random intrusion or part of more serious stalking behavior.
Jungkook's warning to sasaeng fans
Even before his military enlistment, Jungkook had dealt with similar issues involving sasaeng fans. During one such incident, while he was walking near his home, he went live and voiced his frustration, saying, 'Even now, there are sasaengs in front of my house. Don't come, you b*stards. Don't cross the line, you b*stards." His blunt message highlighted just how invasive and distressing such behavior can be for public figures.

When asked about concerns raised by loyal webtoon fans, the actor added, 'If anything, I hoped to make something even better.' In Mercy for None, So plays Ki Jun, a former gangster who got his Achilles tendon slashed as punishment for disrupting the underworld balance. Years later, he limps his way back into the crime world to avenge his brother's death. Surprisingly, So admitted he had no idea the show was based on a webtoon when he first signed on. 'I only received the script. Later, I found out I was actually the top fan pick to play Ki Jun,' he said. The series director Choi Sung Eun earlier revealed how she jumped on the fans' pick without second-guessing. Despite a bit of hesitation, she quickly realised in their first meeting that So was the perfect fit. I hope Gwangjang can help spark more noir productions in Korea. Every country has its own strengths when it comes to noir. Korea doesn't use guns as much, so the impact feels different. You can really feel the energy through direct, close-range fights.' Since its June 6 release, Mercy for None has stormed into Netflix's Top 10 in 44 countries, peaking at No. 2 globally in the non-English TV category. 'This was my first Netflix project,' So said. 'It felt like stepping into a completely new world.' It's been 13 years since So last touched the noir-action genre, so returning to the same, to mark his comeback, almost felt like 'pulling a cheat code.' The role demanded serious physical preparations too. The actor revealed losing 15 kgs for his character. 'Before starting the diet, I weighed 95 kg. By the end, I was in the 70s. I lost it the old-school way — restricting calories, eating chicken breasts. It wasn't easy. I love eating and gain weight easily, even when I barely eat.' Speaking about his action sequences, the actor told Korea Times, 'Acting brings joy, but it's equally challenging. My style doesn't usually swing wildly with emotions, so I focus on the small details.' So added, that while it might feel like he is repeating himself with every action, in reality, he just tries to show a new and fresh side of himself.

North Korea Relaunches Damaged Destroyer: Report
Seoul: A North Korean naval destroyer damaged in a botched launch last month has been relaunched, with leader Kim Jong Un presiding over the ceremony, South Korean news agency Yonhap reported early Friday, citing the North's state media. The ceremony for the ship baptized the Kang Kon was held on Thursday at the Rajin shipyard, Yonhap reported -- up the coast from where the botched launch occurred. Last month, Pyongyang had said "a serious accident" happened in a May 21 attempt to launch the 5,000-ton destroyer in the northeastern port city of Chongjin, with the mishap crushing sections of the bottom of the newly built ship. Kim called the incident a "criminal act caused by absolute carelessness" and state media reported the arrest of four officials in connection with the botched launch. The South Korean military estimated that based on its size and scale, the new warship is similarly equipped to the 5,000-ton destroyer-class vessel Choe Hyon, which North Korea unveiled in late April. Kim has approved a plan to build two more destroyer-class vessels next year, Yonhap quoted KCNA as saying.
