Shortly after Lillis sexually assaulted his first victim, Girl A, she told her mother what happened and gave a formal statement to Gardai.

Lillis went on to abuse Girl B, the court heard.
However, four decades later, in 2020, after Girl A made another complaint and gardai received a separate complaint from Lillis' second victim, cops reinvestigated the case and the DPP ordered Lillis to face trial.
Lillis pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
Following his trial at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court he was convicted on four of the five charges, and the jury could not reach a decision on the fifth count.

In her victim impact statement which she read in court, Girl A stated: 'If Eddie Lillis had been held accountable when I made my original complaint, (Girl B) may have avoided his depraved actions.
'My hope is that by making his crimes known to the public Eddie Lillis will never have the opportunity to harm another child.'
HOPE TO PROTECT OTHERS
Both women said they came forward to gardai to 'protect other little girls' from Lillis, or indeed, any other 'paedophile'.
They said they wanted to show 'other victims of historic sexual abuse that it is never too late to pursue justice'.

Lillis, who was supported in court by some of his family said, through his barrister, that despite him having contested the trial, he accepted the jury's decision.
'HEINOUS' ACTS
Girl A stated that the 'heinous' sex acts carried out on her by Lillis changed her from being 'a carefree, innocent six-year-old little girl, to feeling confused and terrified'.
Girl A, who was sexually assaulted by Lillis a few days prior to her First Holy Communion, praised her parents 'who instantly believed me and brought me to make a statement to gardai'.
Girl B told the court that Lillis' sexual assaults on her had 'warped' her childhood, and that 'despite extensive and ongoing therapy, the psychological scars never go away'.

She added that the abuse made her fearful for her own daughter and 'all little girls because of men like Edward Lillis', and that her fear for other children convinced her 'to come forward once and for all'.
NO REMORSE
Girl B said: 'He (Lillis) maintained his innocence and put my family and I through the further trauma of a trial, he has never shown a smidgeon of remorse.'
Neither victim wished to be identified but they said they supported the court lifting reporting restrictions on identifying Lillis.
Jailing Lillis, Judge Daly said the married father-of-three, 'took advantage' of his position of trust in the community 'to abuse the two children'.

'Influencer' under Garda investigation over alleged Electric Picnic tickets scam

A social media 'influencer' is under a garda investigation for allegedly scamming dozens of people into purchasing fake Electric Picnic tickets. The young woman, who is known in the beauty pageant world, is alleged to have coerced potentially hundreds of people to fork over money for the Stradbally festival in a sophisticated social media scam. Victims first came forward on social media to claim they had been scammed by the woman - who had used her own platform to claim she was selling two tickets to the sold out festival. Now several of the alleged victims have come forward to gardai and have made formal statements. The Garda fraud squad have formally opened an investigation into the claims. However Gardai have yet to speak to the young woman who is alleged to have ran the scam, and are hoping to speak to as many victims as possible first. There are fears that potentially hundreds of people could've been scammed in the process. The young woman appears to have deleted her presence on social media, where she enjoyed a large following of several thousand people. The Irish Mirror's Crime Writers Michael O'Toole and Paul Healy are writing a new weekly newsletter called Crime Ireland. Click here to sign up and get it delivered to your inbox every week In a statement gardai confirmed they are "investigating alleged incidents of online fraud (alleged resale of event tickets) that are believed that have occurred in recent weeks". 'Gardaí are urging anyone who believes they may have been a victim of online fraud to report it in person or by phone at their local Garda station, or by calling the freephone Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111. A Garda spokesperson added: "It is important that people exert a great degree of caution if attempting to purchase tickets for a sold-out event through any third-party known or otherwise. Do not trust that the tickets you believe you are purchasing are real. It is likely that they will not materialise and in fact, do not exist. "Please do not send money through any app in advance.' Electric Picnic organisers have said in a statement to the public that if they see tickets advertised anywhere other than on Ticketmaster 'you stand a good chance of getting ripped off and possibly being refused entry..' 'All event tickets are checked by our staff at entry to the event and again at the wristband exchange for camping shows – any forged tickets will be confiscated from you, you will not be permitted to the event and you may face questioning from the police,' they said. "We do not issue 'Print at home' tickets for Electric Picnic, any tickets that are offered for sale fitting that description are a scam. A second common scam occurs when genuine tickets, have already been cancelled by the seller with Ticketmaster, and are then sold to an unsuspecting fan. These may appear to be genuine when received, but will not scan at the gates when you arrive on site.'
