Rose garden the 'perfect tribute' to adventurer
Margaret Vickers, who died in 2023 aged 90, was a "passionate" gardener and motorsports enthusiast - and was believed to be one of the first people in Rotherham to own a Vespa scooter.
Her partner Audrey Morris donated £30,000 to create a garden in her honour at Wentworth Woodhouse, a place they "loved to visit".
Audrey, 80, said the restored 18th-Century walled area, opened ahead of the RHS Flower Show later this month, was the "perfect tribute" to Margaret.
Herringthorpe-born Margaret was an avid hiker, climbing the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales.
She was a member of the Sheffield Scooter Club and helped to launch the Rotherham group - and was also a motorbike and sidecar racer.
Audrey and Margaret became partners in the 1970s, later setting up a typesetting business, and were together for more than 50 years before Margaret's death.
Audrey said: "It looks wonderful and as the roses mature, it will become even more beautiful and more heavily scented.
"I will go and sit there to remember Margaret and watch the roses grow."
The Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust said the restoration had turned the "overgrown space into a place of beauty and tranquility".
CEO Sarah McLeod said: "Audrey's generous gift meant we could restore one of our garden's prettiest and oldest features.
"Their colours and scent make the garden an unmissable summer destination for all rose-lovers."
The RHS Flower Show will run for the first time at Wentworth Woodhouse from 16-25 July.

Wimbledon hotel prices surges 300 per cent during Championship season
Hotel prices around Wimbledon have surged by as much as 300 per cent during the Championship season in late June and early July, according to a study. The study by researchers at BetUK analysed live hotel prices in Wimbledon, Richmond upon Thames, Putney, Kingston upon Thames, and Central London using and found startling price changes. In the week prior to the Championships, hotels in Wimbledon were priced at £101 per night on average. However, during the tournament, they shot up 82 per cent in the first week to around £184, and then soared 310 per cent to an average of £313 over the final weekend of Wimbledon. The research discovered that some of the most expensive hotels in Wimbledon during the championships can cost upwards of a £871 per night towards the end of the tournament. However, it is possible to find cheaper alternatives as there are rooms available during the first week of Wimbledon at just £68 per night. However, the hotel prices in these alternatives have also increased a staggering amount for Wimbledon. Hotel prices in Central London are £93 per night on average, the week leading up to Wimbledon. However, the prices rise by 144 per cent in week one to £227 per night, and they increase even further during week two to £249 per night, which is a 168 per cent premium. Richmond upon Thames is the cheapest place to stay for the Championships. Hotel prices only increase by 49 per cent in week one and 43 per cent in week two, up from an average of £182 per night the week prior to Wimbledon to £272 and £260 respectively. Increasing prices seem to be a trend at Wimbledon in 2025 as strawberries and cream rise in price for the first time since 2010, from £2.50 to £2.70 a portion, an 8 per cent increase. Standard Centre Court seats also rose in price from £90 to £105 from day one of the Grand Slam, an increase of 17 per cent. Despite these changes, Wimbledon is more popular than ever. They received a record number of ballot applications for tickets to this year's competition, and over half a million people attended last year's Championships over the two weeks. Liverpool consult Jota's wife and confirm retirement of his number 20 shirt
Liverpool will retire Diogo Jota's No. 20 shirt across all teams, including LFC Women and the Academy, following his tragic death in a car crash alongside his brother Andre Silva. The club called it a 'unique tribute to a uniquely wonderful person,' with CEO Michael Edwards confirming it is the first squad number retirement in Liverpool's history. Liverpool will honour Jota ahead of Sunday's friendly against Preston with a minute's silence, digital tributes, black armbands, and a pre-match rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone. Liverpool are to retire Diogo Jota's number 20 shirt in honour of the Portugal forward who was killed with his brother Andre Silva in a car crash this month. "After consultation with his wife, Rute, and family, the club can announce the squad number will be retired in honour and memory of Diogo across all levels, including LFC Women and Academy," the club announced on Friday. "I believe this is the first time in Liverpool Football Club's history that such an honour has been bestowed upon an individual," the club's chief executive Michael Edwards noted. "Therefore, we can say this is a unique tribute to a uniquely wonderful person," he added. Liverpool return to action for the first time since the July 3 tragedy at English Championship side Preston in a pre-season friendly on Sunday. A rendition of Liverpool's anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone" will be played prior to the 1400 GMT kick-off and Preston will lay a wreath in front of the away supporters. A minute's silence will then be observed, digital tributes displayed on the stadium big screen and on pitchside advertising boards and players from both teams will wear black armbands. Father of three Jota, who married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso 11 days before the accident, died alongside his brother after a Lamborghini they were travelling in came off the road and burst into flames in northern Spain. Liverpool manager Arne Slot and a number of first-team players, led by captain Virgil van Dijk, attended Jota's funeral last Saturday.
