I struggled with chronic chapped lips for years, and I've finally found a £4.50 budget buy that's healed them
Daily Mail journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more Since I was a teen, I've struggled with chronically dry lips. It's partly due to spending loads of time outside doing sport; partly down to medication I take which causes dry skin as a side-effect; and partly down to an annoying (and unattractive) nervous tic I have for peeling flaky bits off. Unfortunately, it's not an easy problem to solve. Most lip balms I apply smudge off as soon as I eat (realistically about 12 times a day) or are immediately dissolved by my uber-dry lips without making any real difference. Even worse? Products that are meant to look nice like 'hydrating lipsticks' never work and worse, usually cling to dry skin which means I not only have chapped lips, but lumpy, discoloured ones. When I finally complained to my beauty editor friend about this, she rolled her eyes at my ineptitude and directed me to a £4.50 Boots buy she claimed would instantly resolve the issue. 'Put a healthy layer on at night, then put some of your face moisturiser over it,' she said. 'Honestly, they'll be baby soft.' I was dubious that Boots' Berry Lip Sleep Mask would do much good, given I'd tried multiple lip baths and masks and balms costing £30-plus to no avail. But that night I duly applied a layer, topped with some moisturiser and went to sleep, and when I woke up, my lips were still moist. After trying the same routine for a few months, I can truly say it's made a world of difference. I still apply some balm in the day, usually with some of my favourite Charlotte Tilbury lipstick over the top. But the general chapped-ness has eased significantly and when I wake up, my pout is well hydrated and doesn't even need more balm for the first few hours of the day. I top mine with a smidge of CeraVe Moisturising Cream, but according to beauty buffs, any skin balm should work as well by sealing in the lip mask. Give it a try and prepare for a perfect pout – you can thank me later.

Medik8 fans say 'magical' anti-ageing eye cream makes dark circles 'disappear'
'My lines are very faint and my skin is glowing. I just turned 50 but I reckon I look the best I ever have.' Medik8 has launched an impressive sale on their 'greatest' skincare hits including the Crystal Retinal Eye Ceramide. The 'magical' serum would usually start at £42 but has dropped down to £33.60. It uses twin-encapsulated retinaldehyde which has been proven to work up to 11 times faster than standard retinol, this targets the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, discolouration, uneven skin texture and firmness. It also contains ceramides for the skin barrier, hyaluronic acid filling spheres for hydration and chamomile extract to soothe skin. While retinol and retinal have been known to be harsher on skin than some other ingredients, it is showing up in a number of eye products. The INKEY List Retinol Eye Cream is currently £13 at SpaceNK and LookFantastic is selling Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum Ginseng + Retinal for £15, both are popular although neither have as many reviews as Medik8's hit. The Medik8 serum has pulled in an impressive average rating of 4.8 out of five from over 1,700 reviews. One happy shopper wrote: "I used to have dark circles under my eyes and let me tell you that after I started using Crystal Retinal Eye Ceramide they disappeared! This is a magical serum!" Another was thrilled by the impact on her skin, saying: "Oh my word. This has dethroned R-Retinoate as my favourite product ever. It is beautiful. I dot it under my eyes and on my crows feet and I can truthfully say that it instantly makes a difference which only gets better over time. The combined effect of using this with the oxy-r peptides has made the greatest difference to my skin out of all the products I've ever used and I'm ancient. I say 'greatest' because the results are clear to see over such a short period of time and I have supersensitive skin which hasn't been irritated in the slightest. "I feel like I'm gushing a little too much now but for a person who has suffered with eczema for 50 years and who was desperate to rescue his face after a particularly bad episode these products have wowed me. My lines are very faint and my skin is glowing. I just turned 50 but I reckon I look the best I ever have and I genuinely put that down to oxy-r peptides and the crystal retinal ceramide eye 6. It's certainly not down to clean living." Some shoppers have been underwhelmed by the speed it takes to start showing an impact, with one writing: "I have been using strength 6 around my eyes and the crystal retinal 6 for the face on rest of face. I think too early to say if it would be making any difference to eye creases, but I had hoped after a few weeks my dark circles would be lighter." While another claims to have seen a difference within 24 hours, adding: "So much change, just overnight. This product is so amazing, just overnight it firmed and plumped my eyes. It also helped with my wrinkles, this is a really amazing product!"
