Barun Sobti is one of the rare television actors who has successfully transitioned into the world of OTT and cinema, steadily carving out a distinct identity for himself. From the charm of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? to the realism of Tu Hai Mera Sunday, and from the gritty tension of Halahal to the gripping psychological thrillers Asur and Kohrra, Sobti has proven his versatility time and again. Now, in an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla for their Behind The Success segment, the actor opened up about the lasting impact of Asur and shared a much-awaited update on its third season.
Barun revealed that the writing for Asur 3 is now complete, though filming hasn't begun yet. 'It will take some time before we begin shooting," he said, assuring fans that the next season is very much happening. The update is sure to excite the show's massive fanbase, who have been eagerly waiting to see where the story leads after the cliffhanger of Season 2.
Reflecting on his journey, Barun shared how Asur became a turning point in his career, transforming the public's perception of him. 'People started seeing me as a serious actor after Asur," he admitted. He went on to praise the show's sharp writing, calling it 'terrific," and recalled his initial reaction upon being offered the role. 'When I first read the script, I genuinely wondered why they were casting me. It was so well-written. I told them, 'Sir, why are you taking me?'" he laughed.
With his characteristic humility, Sobti further joked that if someone were to argue with him about whether he deserved the part, he'd probably lose the debate—clarifying that he meant in terms of casting, not performance. 'I just got lucky," he concluded.
For those unfamiliar, Asur has earned a reputation as one of India's most compelling web series, blending mythology, psychology, and crime with razor-sharp storytelling. Directed by Oni Sen, the show stars Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti, alongside an ensemble that includes Vishesh Bansal, Gaurav Arora, Anupriya Goenka, Ridhi Dogra, Amey Wagh, Sharib Hashmi, Meiyang Chang, and Abhishek Chauhan.
