We are focussing on promoting
alternate dispute resolution
(ADR) mechanism to reduce pendency of cases in the Supreme Court. We have held several conferences inside and outside the country. We have requested several high courts to take it forward so that disputes could be resolved mutually but also have legal sanctity.

upcoming monsoon session
I hope the next session would be more productive and people-centric issues would be discussed. The Opposition has been demanding a discussion on Operation Sindoor. We are also not running away from the discussion. But, it should be held as per the rules of Parliament. Many of our members have also given notice for this discussion.
executive & judiciary
Live Events
The role of the judiciary, executive and legislature has been well defined in the Constitution. And all these three branches of governance should act according to the role defined in the Constitution. There should be coordination between the three. We always prioritise better coordination between the executive and judiciary.
Justice Varma's removal
This issue is now with the MPs. I have been told that the Opposition is on board on this issue and many MPs from various opposition parties have signed on the motion to remove Justice Varma. Thereafter, the presiding officer will form a three-member committee which will have three months' time to submit its report. In between, the respective presiding officers will keep informing the house on the status of the inquiry.
Justice Varma moving the SC
Yes, he has gone to the Supreme Court against the Supreme Court's in-house committee and it is his right. But it has nothing to do with the removal process in parliament.
judicial appointments
The discussion on judicial appointments and judicial accountability has been going on for several decades. As and when any government brings any reforms, the Supreme Court also takes a call on it. Recently, the Supreme Court had suo-motu taken several steps and made public its judges' assets. Subjects on judicial accountability are also being discussed by a parliamentary committee as well.

'I'm proud to say no Hindu can ever be a terrorist': Amit Shah in Rajya Sabha

NEW DELHI: "I am proud to say, no Hindu can ever be a terrorist," Union home minister Amit Shah declared in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, hitting out at Congress for manufacturing the thesis of "saffron terror" to malign majority community as part of its politics of appeasement. "They tried to give terrorism a religious colour for the sake of votes - but people of India rejected that falsehood," he said. Shah recalled the effort in some quarters to blame Hindutva outfits for the 26/11 terror attacks that Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out in Mumbai, and said Congress neta Digvijaya Singh was among those who fanned it. tnn 'Afzal Guru couldn't be hanged as long as PC was home mantri' Home minister Amit Shah recalled the effort in some quarters to blame Hindutva outfits for the 26/11 terror attacks that Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) carried out. "All this was done for political gain. Innocent people were jailed, tortured and defamed - not in pursuit of justice but to build a story that served electoral purposes," Shah said, without naming names. Significantly, his attack came on the eve of a court judgment in the Malegaon terror blasts case - the first case allegedly involving members of Abhinav Bharat, supposedly an extremist Hindutva outfit. On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha had also attacked Congress for talking on Hindutva terror even as "Pakistan-backed terror organisations like the LeT were carrying out bomb attacks in different parts" during its regimes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo In a leaked diplomatic cable, a neta can be heard saying that he was more concerned about "Hindu terror", Modi had said, in what was seen as a reference to the Wikileaks disclosure of a purported conversation between a US diplomat and Rahul Gandhi, then a Congress MP. Participating in the special discussion on Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, Shah accused Congress of enabling terrorism through decades of "appeasement politics" and weakening India's internal security. "The only reason terrorism spread in this country was because of your (Congress) vote-bank calculations," he said. He also said death sentence for Afzal Guru, who was convicted for the terror attack on Parliament, could not be carried out for long as P Chidambaram was home minister. On J&K, Shah said terrorism was now at its lowest point. "There was a time when Pakistan didn't even need to send terrorists. Our own youth were being radicalised. But in the last six months, not a single Kashmiri youth has picked up a gun. All those being eliminated now are Pakistanis," he said. "In the last six months, terrorist groups have not been able to enlist a single local youth," said Shah, who emphasised that the last elections in J&K were the fairest the it has seen. "Elections in J&K were routinely rigged. One senior security officer told me that his main job during the polls was not to ensure safety but to stuff ballots," he said, adding that faith in the fairness has led to a huge turnaround in sentiment. "There was not a single village where processions were not taken out against the killings of tourists at Pahalgam," he said. On Pakistan, he reiterated, "There will be no dialogue until terrorism ends. We stopped only after they pleaded for a ceasefire - when they were on their knees."

Trump's rant against India undercuts claim of having used trade to broker Operation Sindoor truce with Pakistan

NEW DELHI: When he lashed out at India for not lowering tariffs for American businesses, US President Donald Trump undercut the claim he has incessantly made: that on May 10, the Modi govt caved in to his threat of not doing trade with India if it did not pause Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. He had also suggested that India would get a good deal for its compliance. Trump's outburst on Truth Social on Wednesday conflicted with his claim of having frog marched India to cease Operation Sindoor by dangling the threat of stopping trade. Interestingly, the 'all things not good' admission from the US president, who has earned the reputation of being the global scold because of his petulance and pugnacity, came on a day when the two Houses of Parliament concluded a debate on Operation Sindoor that was dominated by Trump's claim of having mediated the suspension of hostilities. On Tuesday, PM Modi had refuted Trump's claim, saying no global leader had asked him to cease the offensive, and that it was the sheer ferocity of the IAF strikes on Pakistan's airbases that led Islamabad to sue for peace on May 10. That was getting as close as an Indian PM could get to accuse the US president of inexactitude. External affairs minister S Jaishankar went a step further on both Tuesday and Wednesday, stating that Trump and Modi did not talk between April 22 and June 16 when in a telephonic conversation, Modi had rebutted the suggestion that the operation against Pakistan was ceased because of anyone's mediation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Modern manufacturing techniques explained. Trump dumps 25% tariff on India from Friday, plus penalty for buying Russian oil

NEW DELHI: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a 25% tariff on all goods imported from India, along with an unspecified penalty, from Aug 1 after the two countries failed to reach an interim trade deal, triggering nervousness among exporters. After making several claims over the last four months of having got India to agree to slash tariffs, Trump took to social media to announce the stiff duties and linked the action to India's high trade surplus with the US and purchase of Russian oil and arms. "Also, they (India) have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia's largest buyer of energy, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the killing in Ukraine - all things not good! India will therefore be paying 25%, plus a penalty for the above, starting Aug 1," Trump posted on Truth Social. The US president had earlier announced a "reciprocal tariff" of 26% on India. He later paused it, but left a 10% baseline tariff on all countries. Trump's proposed penalty has complicated the calculations for Indian businesses. Over the last three months, he has managed to get other trading partners such as the European Union, Japan, Britain and Vietnam to open up their markets for American goods in return for lowering the tariffs, something he could not do with India due to its reluctance to offer concessions on farm and dairy products. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ultra Lux 4BHK homes at 7 Mahalaxmi from 10.81 Cr* 7 Mahalaxmi, Runwal Group Enquire Now Undo Within the govt there was clarity that it would not settle for a sub-par deal that did not provide for adequate tariff cuts in the US for Indian textiles, leather and footwear and lower-end auto parts. Trump announcement seen as bid to mount pressure on India to agree to US demands President Trump managed to get other trading partners such as EU, Japan, Britain and Vietnam to open up their markets for US goods in return for lowering tariffs, something he could not do with India due to its reluctance to offer concessions on farm and dairy products. Within govt there was clarity that it would not settle for a sub-par deal that did not provide for adequate tariff cuts in the US for Indian textiles, leather and footwear and lower-end auto parts. The Trump administration's argument that it did not have the legislative mandate to revert to reducing tariffs to zero, as is the case with most trade agreements, did not find traction with Indian negotiators, who were asked by the leadership to leverage the large and growing market offered by India. During the negotiations, India had indicated its willingness to buy larger quantities of LNG, fertiliser and defence equipment from the US, but the demands kept increasing. Trump's repeated attempt to link the Operation Sindoor ceasefire to his offer for a good trade deal only complicated matters for him. Over the last few weeks, there was also an attempt to prepare industry for possible imposition of tariffs. While talks for the proposed trade deal will continue, the announcement is seen as a move to mount pressure on India to agree to American demands. In the meantime, businesses fear that the uncertainty over the penalty will make buyers reluctant to place orders, some of which may flow to other countries. Countries like Vietnam, which have negotiated lower levies, may hurt India. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays .
