England Under-19s captain Archie Vaughan claimed five wickets to put his side on the brink of a series-clinching youth Test victory against South Africa.South Africa had seemed in a comfortable position at 108-3 in their second innings on day three before Vaughan belatedly brought himself into the attack as the sixth-change bowler. The Somerset all-rounder, son of former England captain Michael, then swung the match his side's way in Cape Town with 13.5 overs of off-spin.The Proteas suffered a middle-order collapse as they lost five wickets for 37 - all to Vaughan - as they finished the day on 145-8, a lead of only 16 runs with two wickets in hand.Vaughan took a solitary wicket in the drawn first youth Test between the sides in Stellenbosch last month. England had earlier begun the day on 251-8 but South Africa's hopes of taking the tourists' final two wickets cheaply were thwarted by Middlesex's Aaryan Sawant.Sawant, who was eventually run out for 130, shared a 127-run ninth-wicket stand with Alexander Wade, who finished unbeaten on 49, before England were finally bowled out for 353 in their first innings.Vaughan played four first-class and seven 50-over matches for Somerset last season, having made his debut for the county in July 2024.He averaged 33.71 with the bat in the County Championship but also caught the eye with his off breaks, taking 15 wickets including two five-wicket hauls. His father was one of England's most successful Test captains, winning 26 of his 51 Tests in charge and leading his side to victory in the iconic 2005 Ashes series against Australia.

Leah Williamson's place in Women's Euros semi-final in doubt after injury

England secured a chaotic Euro 2025 victory over Sweden, coming from two goals down to win via a thrilling penalty shootout in Zurich. Captain Leah Williamson rolled her ankle during the match and was substituted as she was not at '100 per cent'. Manager Sarina Wiegman said Williamson will be assessed before the semi-final against Italy on Tuesday, saying: 'I don't know what it is right now.' While Lauren James and Lucy Bronze also appeared to be limping, Wiegman attributed James's issue to fatigue. Lucy Bronze played through pain, removing strapping from her leg to score the decisive penalty in the shootout, earning high praise from Wiegman for her resilience.

Manchester City sell midfielder as Pep Guardiola's clearout continues

Manchester City have sold midfielder Maximo Perrone to Como in a deal that could make them up to €15m (£13m) as Pep Guardiola continues to trim his squad. City also have a buyback clause for the 22-year-old midfielder and a 30 percent sell-on clause for when he leaves the Italian club. The fee they will receive for Perrone in effect offsets the transfer fee they paid for Sverre Nypan, the 18-year-old Norwegian midfielder who completed his £12.5m move to the Etihad Stadium on Thursday. Perrone impressed Como manager Cesc Fabregas while on loan there last season, helping the promoted club finish 10th in Serie A. The Argentinian, who was bought from Velez Sarsfield in January 2023, only made two senior appearances for City, both as a substitute, amounting to 25 minutes on the pitch. He came on for the last 18 minutes of a 4-1 win at Bournemouth in 2023 and the final two minutes of a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Bristol City. Guardiola has said he thinks he has 'too many players' and wants to work with a smaller group and Perrone could be followed by further departures. City have parted company with two former captains with Kevin de Bruyne joining Napoli after his contract expired and Kyle Walker going to Burnley for a fee that could rise to £5m. City are also willing to sell Jack Grealish and James McAtee, with the England Under-21 captain attracting plenty of interest.
