– Nottingham Forest kept alive their hopes of Champions League football next season with a 2-1 English Premier League win at West Ham United on May 18 as goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nikola Milenkovic kept them in touch with the top five.
Forest are seventh in the table on 65 points from 37 games, one point off the three teams currently placed third to fifth in the Champions League spots and level with Manchester City.
Their last game is at home to Chelsea, who are fourth, on May 25.
Gibbs-White told Sky Sports: 'Chelsea are an incredible team in good form, so we'll have to go back to the drawing board this week and focus on how we want to win that game.
'It's a do or die moment, one last push and we have to give it everything – the fans, the staff and us. We'll be going in wanting three points.'
Gibbs-White settled the visitors' nerves with an early goal after 11 minutes, when he collected a stray pass from West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to fire into an empty net.
Forest kept pressing for a second and were rewarded just past the hour mark as Anthony Elanga's free-kick ended up in the net off the back of Milenkovic, before Jarrod Bowen smashed in a late consolation for 15th-placed West Ham, who have 40 points.
The game had a farcical end with a long video assistant referee (VAR) check due to a technology breakdown, scuffles and time-wasting leading to an additional 17 minutes.
But on the balance of the contest Forest, who have not played in Europe's top club competition since the 1980-81 season, deserved their win.
Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo told the BBC: 'A lot of stoppage in the game, so we were anxious to get the game finished.
'Until then (the West Ham goal) we were in control. Then the anxiety comes when we allowed the goal and everything is difficult from there. Matz (Sels) did great again, so we're happy...
'It's great. Let's enjoy it, it's going to be a good week for us. If we'd thought in the beginning of the season that we'd be playing to play in the Champions League, we'd sign it.'
Gibbs-White had an early shooting chance from close range that forced an excellent save from Areola, who had to be alert to keep out Chris Wood's stinging drive.
Forest went in front following a stray pass from Areola, who tried to pick out Guido Rodriguez just outside the box but Gibbs-White intercepted and finished into an empty net.
Forest continued to look the brighter side and scored their second after 61 minutes, when Elanga's free kick from the left went into the net off the back of Milenkovic.
Following a six-minute VAR check for offside, the goal was given. The semi-automated offside technology was not available to the VAR, while there were also issues with communications to the on-field officials.
It was an 11th assist of the season for Elanga, which matched the club's Premier League record set by Bryan Roy in 1994-95.
Bowen set up a grandstand finish when his superb volleyed finish rocketed into the net after 86 minutes, with the drama far from over.
West Ham substitute Niclas Fullkrug might have equalised when his powerful header was brilliantly saved by Forest goalkeeper Sels deep into added time.
Earlier on May 18, Everton gave Goodison Park a fitting farewell after Iliman Ndiaye scored twice to hand the home side a 2-0 victory over already-relegated Southampton as the 'Grand Old Lady' hosted its final Premier League game after 133 years.
Everton's win in their penultimate match of the season – but last game at Goodison before moving to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock – left David Moyes' side 13th on 45 points. Bottom-placed Southampton have 12 points from 37 games.
'This team will be remembered in history as the one who played the last game,' Moyes said.
'It's very special (to be the last one),' Ndiaye added, with the game ball tucked under one arm. 'It means a lot and I wanted to score a hat-trick. Since the day I came in they have been great, I wanted to give the fans a win today.' REUTERS

Dortmund sign Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland on five-year deal

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Championship - Play-Off Final - Sheffield United v Sunderland - Wembley Stadium, London, Britain - May 24, 2025 Sunderland's Jobe Bellingham celebrates after Eliezer Mayenda scores their first goal REUTERS/Hannah Mckay/File Photo Sunderland's Jobe Bellingham has completed a permanent transfer to Borussia Dortmund, the clubs said on Tuesday as the English midfielder follows in the footsteps of his elder brother Jude by signing for the Bundesliga team. Financial details were not disclosed by the newly-promoted Premier League club but British media said Dortmund would pay an initial fee of 33 million euros ($37.70 million) for Jobe, who will play in this month's Club World Cup. Sunderland said it was a club-record fee and that a sell-on clause was also included within the agreement while Dortmund said the England Under-21 international had signed a five-year deal. The reported fee would make 19-year-old Jobe the second-most expensive signing made by Dortmund after they recruited Ousmane Dembele for 35 million euros in 2016. Jobe leaves Sunderland after a two-year spell which culminated with the club, who finished fourth in the second-tier Championship, gaining promotion to the top flight with a playoff final victory over Sheffield United. "It's time for me to say farewell to all the loyal people of Sunderland, who have powered me through two incredible years in red and white," Jobe said. "Your support, on so many occasions, has completely blown me away, especially in the times of adversity, which we pulled through together." In a separate statement, he said: "I'm very happy to be a Borussia Dortmund player now and to fight for titles together with this great club... And I'm very happy that I'll be wearing the black and yellow jersey at the FIFA Club World Cup." Jude Bellingham played for Dortmund for three seasons before making a 103 million euros switch to Real Madrid, where the England international won the LaLiga and Champions League titles in his first season. Tudor to remain as Juventus coach, says new GM Comolli

Igor Tudor will remain in charge of Juventus next season after Damien Comolli, the club's new general manager, said on Tuesday that they had faith in the Croatian coach who was handed the reins less than three months ago. Tudor arrived in March after Juve sacked Thiago Motta, with the club having been knocked out of all the cup competitions and sitting outside the top four in Serie A. Juve lost only one more league game and finished fourth to qualify for the Champions League, but the 47-year-old warned his future must be decided before their Club World Cup campaign kicks off next week. "I want to confirm that Tudor will be our coach for next season. I have already made this clear to him and we are working together," Comolli told reporters. "We are a great club and there is a lot of speculation, but I want to reiterate that Tudor will remain our coach." Comolli, previously with French club Toulouse, is no stranger to Tudor's work. "When he was at (Olympique) Marseille he beat us twice. We even laughed about it," Comolli added. "The intensity, the physical and mental stamina that his Marseille had, impressed me. He did an exceptional job at Marseille." Comolli said he plans to hire a sporting director for transfers and a technical director to establish a clear structure at the club who have not won the Scudetto since the 2019-20 season when they lifted the trophy for the ninth year in a row. He also confirmed Randal Kolo Muani, who is on loan from Paris St Germain, would play in the Club World Cup even though his contract ends this month. "We have not reached an agreement for next season, but I am optimistic that we can reach one, because PSG has not closed the door and Kolo Muani wants to stay with us," Comolli said. Comolli also said he wants to speak to Dusan Vlahovic with the Serbian striker reportedly unsettled at Juve. Vlahovic was Juve's top scorer in each of the last three seasons. "I want to understand what he wants to do. He is a top player and something this season didn't work," he said. "He is a top player and we also have to understand his intentions from a contractual point of view. When I understand all these things, I will be able to decide".
