
Russian scientists develop model to extend battery lifespan
Researchers at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), together with colleagues from Novosibirsk, have developed a digital model that allows real-time assessment and adjustment of battery operating conditions in electric buses.
According to TV BRICs , this innovation can significantly increase battery life by accurately accounting for thermal and electrical processes. This is reported by the official website of the Russian Ministry of Education.
The model was created as a result of comprehensive research, including field tests of transport, collection of operational data and mathematical modelling of battery degradation processes. Key parameters were taken into account: charge level, temperature fluctuations, number of passengers and speed of movement.
"Our model combines physical and chemical modelling, statistics and neural network approaches. It adapts to specific routes, taking into account climate and charging modes, which allows us to optimise battery performance in real time," explained project leader Nikita Martushev, associate professor at the TPU School of Information Technology and Robotics.
Field tests were conducted on urban and suburban routes, during which dozens of parameters were recorded, from charge level and temperature to engine torque. Based on the data obtained, the scientists built a mathematical model of the traction system that allows them to assess the impact of temperature and electrical modes on battery wear.
The results showed that a 15°C increase in temperature reduces battery life by 30 per cent, and operation at 43°C reduces it by almost half. Accelerated charging or discharging twice as fast as normal reduces the battery life by 30 per cent, and four times faster reduces it by 47 per cent.
The study also identified the optimal operating conditions: a charge level of 25% to 65% and a temperature range of 20–30°C. Additional charging stations along the route allow battery heating to be controlled and significantly slow down their wear and tear.

Samsung Secures Record $16.5 Bln Semiconductor Order
Israa Farhan Samsung Electronics has secured a record-breaking semiconductor order worth 22.8 trillion won (about 16.5 billion US dollars), marking the largest chip contract in the company's history, according to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency on Monday. The South Korean tech giant disclosed in a regulatory filing that the contract will be completed by 31 December 2033. While Samsung did not name the client or reveal further details due to business confidentiality, Bloomberg News reported that the deal is with Elon Musk's Tesla. Elon Musk confirmed the Bloomberg report via X, stating that the goal is to build a factory in Taylor, Texas, to produce Tesla's next-generation AI6 chip. The deal represents around 7.6 percent of Samsung's total revenue from the previous year and positions it as the largest semiconductor manufacturing contract the company has ever received. Analysts believe this contract will offer a significant boost to Samsung's chip-making division, which has been trailing behind industry leader Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Iran Confirms Nahid-2 Satellite is Operational in Orbit
Yara Sameh The Iranian Space Agency (ISA) has confirmed successful communication with the newly launched Nahid-2 satellite, having received its initial telemetry signals. This is reported by the Mehr News Agency , a partner of TV BRICS. According to ISA chief Hossein Salariyeh, these signals indicate that the satellite is stable and functioning as intended in its designated orbit following its launch from Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome on 25 July. Nahid-2 is a telecommunications satellite that utilises the Ku-band, commonly used for broadband connectivity across the globe. Salariyeh stated that post-launch efforts are now focused on systematically testing each subsystem to ensure optimal performance. The satellite, entirely designed and built domestically, is equipped with a range of features including secure data transmission, onboard storage, and direct communication with ground stations. China Uses AI and Algae to Strengthen Conservation of the Great Wall
Yara Sameh China is advancing the protection of the Great Wall with an innovative combination of artificial intelligence and biological conservation, as experts deploy smart inspection robots and algae-based techniques to preserve the historic structure. This is reported by China Daily , a partner of TV BRICS. At the Shanhaiguan Pass in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, a four-legged robot equipped with high-definition cameras, lidar, and smart sensors is now being used to assess the structural integrity of the wall. This robotic system can detect cracks, missing bricks, and other forms of deterioration, transmitting real-time data to relevant authorities. Hebei Province, which hosts one of the most well-preserved sections of the over 21,000-kilometre-long UNESCO World Heritage Site, has become a hub for technological innovation in cultural heritage preservation. Since 2017, drones have also been used to monitor inaccessible segments of the Wall, especially those located on cliffs or in remote areas. Data collected by these aerial patrols is stored in databases to guide future restoration strategies. Alongside digital tools, researchers are employing biological methods to combat rain erosion, which poses a serious threat to the stability of the Wall's rammed earth sections. The research team discovered that filamentous cyanobacteria, naturally occurring on parts of the Wall, create a biological soil crust that acts as a natural protective barrier.
