Record setting Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance priced
Second torquiest AMG product on-sale in South Africa today finally arrives after its competition success in Knysna in May.

Having made its public debut at the Simola Hillclimb in Knysna last month, where it won the production car category overall piloted by AMG Driving Experience boss Clint Weston, Mercedes-Benz has divulged pricing of the AMG GT63 S E Performance.
Performance hybrid
The replacement for the previous generation AMG GT R, the two-door GT63 becomes Affalterbach's second torquiest road car on-sale today behind the S65 E Performance, by combining the stalwart 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor and battery pack.
Devised as a short range hybrid with emphasis on performance, hence its name, the V8 develops 450kW/850Nm on its own and is mated to the nine-speed MCT transmission.

Combined with a rear mounted electric motor developing 150kW/320Nm, driven by a 6.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the AMG GT63 S E Performance produces 600kW/1 420Nm, which AMG says will get it from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 320 km/h.
As with the four-door AMG GT63 and the S65 E Performance, drive is routed to all four wheels via the 4Matric+ all-wheel-drive system. Being a plug-in hybrid, but with performance as the main focus, as mentioned, the claim all-electric is a mere 13 km.
AMG modes
Able to feed as much as 100 kW back into the battery pack using the regenerative braking system, the local market AMG GT63 S E Performance comes with the same hybrid-optimised AMG Dynamic Select system as the variant sold in Europe.
In total, this consist of eight settings: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual, Electric and Battery Hold, which uses the V8 as the main propulsion method without affecting the battery's range.
Inside and out
Carried over from the Old Continent model as well is the rear-axle steering system, the adaptive AMG Ride Control dampers, model specific shock absorbers and springs, the standard AMG carbon ceramic brakes, and the AMG light alloy wheels measuring 20-inches at the front and 21-inches at the rear.
Inside, the AMG GT63 S E Performance's unique accommodation includes optional diamond quilting on the AMG Performance Nappa leather trimmed seats, and hybrid graphics and readouts within the 12.3-inch instrument cluster and the 11.9-inch MBUX infotainment system.
Price
Forming part of a three model range as Mercedes-Benz South Africa's website lists the GT 55 and standard GT 63 as the other variants, albeit without pricing, the GT63 S E Performance as a sticker of R4 369 287, which includes a five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan.

Power is sent to all four corners via the firm's nine-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. The apex two-door GT's petrol-electric setup produces a total system output of 600kW and a whopping 1 420N.m, allowing for a whip-crack claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 2.8 seconds. The company quotes a top speed of 320km/h. The GT 63 S E Performance is brought to a halt by fore and aft carbon-ceramic brake discs, measuring 420mm and 380mm in diameter, respectively. The braking setup further features six-piston front and single-piston floating rear callipers. The E Performance GT 63's electric motor is coupled with a 400V battery pack. According to the automaker, the 6.1kWh lithium-ion unit provides an electric-only operating range of 13km. The claimed average fuel consumption is 12.3l100 km. SIU and Transnet freeze R20 million in luxury assets amid fraud probe

Luxury cars and high-end properties worth R20.3 million have been frozen by the Special Tribunal amid the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) investigation into irregular Transnet property valuation contracts. The SIU and Transnet announced on Friday that they have obtained a preservation order from the Special Tribunal to freeze around R20.3 million worth of movable and immovable properties. This action is part of an ongoing investigation into three allegedly irregular contracts with Transnet SOC Limited for property valuation services. The order prohibits Humphrey Tshepo Moyo, Neo Shown Matlala, MM Real Estate (Pty) Ltd, and any other parties from renting, selling, giving away, or making any changes to the frozen properties until the legal case is concluded. The preserved luxury vehicles include a Porsche 718 Boxster, a Mercedes-Benz V250d Avantgarde 3.2 T, a Volkswagen Amarok, a Toyota Hilux linked to MM Real Estate (Pty) Ltd or a linked individual, a Volkswagen Amarok linked to Moyo, a Porsche Macan S Diesel linked to Matlala, and a Mercedes-Benz C200 linked to HTM (PTY) LTD. 'Serious flaws in procurement processes' 'Working closely with Transnet, the SIU's investigation revealed serious flaws in the procurement processes, raising concerns about compliance with supply chain management regulations and the possibility of undue influence in the awarding of these contracts,' stated the SIU and Transnet. New Mercedes-AMG SL 63 lands in South Africa
The latest Mercedes-AMG SL 63 has arrived in South Africa, slotting in between the SL 43 and the flagship SL 63 E Performance in the marque's 2+2-seater roadster line-up. With its distinctive long bonnet, aggressively raked windscreen, short rear deck and compact overhangs, the SL 63 cuts a commanding figure that oozes presence. Lightweight 20" alloy wheels come standard, while 21" rims are available as an option. While the German drop top's menacing front end sports the firm's aero-enhancing Airpanel active air control system, the rear is fitted with a retractable rear spoiler with five different angle settings designed to either optimise handling stability or reduce drag. As with the SL 43, the SL 63 features an electronically operated folding fabric roof, which opens or closes in 15 seconds at speeds of up to 60km/h. It's also 21kg lighter than the previous-generation metal vario-roof, contributing to a lower centre of gravity. Powering the SL 63 is a 4.0 l twin-turbocharged V8 engine pumping out 430kW and 800Nm of torque. Sent to all four paws via a variable 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system and AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission, Affalterbach's BMW M8 Convertible rival will scorch its way from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 315km/h. Complementing this straight-line shove is a capable chassis featuring a multi-link front axle with five links arranged within the rim. A similar design is found at the rear. Both ends of the SL 63 benefit from a newly developed AMG Active Ride Control suspension, while rear axle steering boosts low-speed manoeuvrability and high-speed stability. Drivers can cycle through six AMG Dynamic Select drive modes — Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual and Race — using either the centre console controls or the AMG steering wheel toggles. Each mode alters the behaviour of the powertrain, transmission, steering, suspension and exhaust. Inside, the SL 63 is generously equipped. Highlights include a 12.3" digital instrument cluster, an 11.9" MBUX infotainment display on the centre console and support for the brand's AMG Performance and Track Pace apps, which allow drivers to log lap and performance data. Standard luxury features include Nappa leather seats, carbon fibre interior trim, Airscarf neck warmers, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, an AMG Performance multifunction steering wheel, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep and steering assist. Pricing for the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 starts at R3,943,156, inclusive of a five-year/100,000km service and maintenance plan.
