Wicklow wine seller seeks compensation for ‘lost profit' during filming

The owner of a business in the quaint Wicklow village of Enniskerry – which has been used as a location for film shoots as far back as Captain Lightfoot, starring Rock Hudson in 1955, to the more recent production of Disenchanted – has complained that he has not been sufficiently compensated following a shoot for a new series, which took place over a week in April.
The producers of 12 Dates of Christmas, which stars Mae Whitman, Mary McDonnell and Jane Seymour in a six-episode limited series in the works for Hallmark, were granted a licence by Wicklow County Council to film in Enniskerry from Monday, April 7 to Friday, April 11.

Beyond the Pale festival organisers say it's going ahead, amid cancellation reports

Organisers of next weekend's Beyond the Pale festival taking place in Co Wicklow have insisted that it is going ahead, after reports circulated that it was to be cancelled due to financial concerns. It is understood that some booking agents had received a call last night telling them that it could not go ahead. The festival is run by promotor Declan Forde from Cupola Events Ltd with an address on Trinity Street in Dublin city centre. It is understood he spent today trying to ensure the festival could go ahead as planned. More than 12,500 people, as well as 1,000 staff and artists are due to attend, with many due to camp at the festival. Structures including fencing and marquees for the festival are set to be built on the Glendalough Estate, with Wicklow County Council having signed off on the final event management plan on 29 May. DJ Dave Clarke, who presents RTÉ 2fm's White Noise post-techno and electro show, is due to fly to Ireland from Amsterdam for the event. He said he had been reading the mounting speculation about the festival online but would make the journey anyway. "I'll be travelling to Ireland. I love it too much but it's very confusing. I have seen this news coming from serious sources but the information changes all the time." He says his after-show party will definitely be going ahead in Dublin and he still hopes to play at the festival. Organisers had promised a more detailed statement about what is happening this afternoon but so far no further clarity has been received.

Co Wicklow estate's Street Feast invites local community to day of family fun

This event is coordinated and presented by Respond Housing Association and supported by the Creative Places Baltinglass project run by Wicklow County Council and the Arts Council. Running from 12pm to 3pm, attendees will have the chance to meet Rathcoran Estate's artist in residence, Siobhán Madden and participate in a hands-on art and planting workshop that promotes creative engagement with nature. There will be activities for children and families to enjoy too, including a slime workshop, a petting farm, face painting, music, and games— all free to participate in. Over the past year, Rathcoran residents have collaborated with Respond and Creative Places Baltinglass to identify ways to deliver new projects and activities aimed at enhancing the neighbourhood. Special thanks are given to Men's Shed for their assistance in building the planting structures in the community garden, and to the residents of the estate for designing a day for all their neighbours to enjoy. Residents are also encouraged to bring their own food and drinks to consume and share. Speaking about the upcoming event, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council Cllr Paul O'Brien said: 'I'm delighted to see this community and family engagement event taking place in the Rathcoran Estate as part of the Creative Places Baltinglass programme. We thank the residents for their input in planning what promises to be a great day out for the whole community.'

Love is taking to two wheels at Bike Week in Wicklow

The flagship event of Wicklow's Bike Week activities will be based at the Murrough car park on Thursday, May 15 from 4pm to 7pm. This free, all-ages event will feature a packed line-up designed to get everyone in the saddle. One major attraction will be a full-sized street velodrome, giving visitors the chance to test their speed and skill on a thrilling track set up right in the Murrough car park, overlooking the seafront. Love could also be in the air as Bike Week is set to link up with TikTok influencer The Dating Orange, to launch Wicklow's firstsingles tandem love cycle. This fun and light-hearted blind date experience will pair participants aged 18 and over for a scenic tandem bike ride through Wicklow town. After a 30–40 minute ride together, each pair will enjoy a free pizza date to see if any chemistry blossoms. Applicants have been sending in their details from far and wide and won't know who they are riding with until the moment they hop on the bike. Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Paul O'Brien stated: 'The new activities added this year offer something totally different. I encourage everyone to come down to the Murrough for this year's festival and the street velodrome. We look forward to seeing the streets filled with bikes and big smiles.' Other events include mountain biking sessions at Ballinastoe Woods, while Blessington will offer a cycle and sauna experience. For those looking to build confidence or learn the basics, learn to cycle sessions and bike maintenance workshops will be available in various locations countywide, providing valuable skills for riders of all ages and abilities.
