Reports: Rams RB Kyren Williams reaches 3-year, $33M extension

Reuters10 hours ago
August 5 - Pro Bowl running back Kyren Williams and the Los Angeles Rams agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract extension with $23 million guaranteed, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.
The deal makes Williams the seventh highest-paid running back in the NFL based on new money per season. He was set to enter the final season of his rookie contract with a base salary of $5.35 million, per Spotrac.
Williams, 24, made a huge impact in 2024, recording career highs in carries (316), rushing yards (1,299) and rushing touchdowns (14).
He has rushed for 2,582 yards and totaled 31 touchdowns (26 rushing, five receiving) in 38 games since being selected by the Rams in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Last season, Williams became the third Rams player age 24 or younger to have at least 27 scrimmage touchdowns in a two-year span. He joined Todd Gurley (40, 2017-18) and Hall of Fame member Eric Dickerson (34, 1983-84) on the short list.

Scott Hanson reveals fate after ESPN's new billion-dollar deal to takeover RedZone sparks fan meltdown

Scott Hanson has confirmed he will be retained as host of NFL RedZone after ESPN's new billion-dollar deal acquired the show and sparked a fan meltdown that the iconic broadcaster may now longer be the property's presenter. Hanson confirmed the news, promising to continue to be the narrator for seven hours of live football every Sunday during the regular season. RedZone shows live highlights from every NFL game as they happen, allowing fans to not channel surf and see all the major plays from the gridiron in one medium. Although changes to the presentation may happen under the ESPN banner, losing Hanson was a step too far for some, with a massive sigh of relief coming from NFL fans. 'It's official. (& for those wondering: yes, I will still be hosting RedZone.) Fired up for a great season! Optimistic about this new partnership! (& I get to call @AdamSchefter 'colleague' for the 2nd time in my career… nice bonus!),' Hanson said on X. Schefter, the NFL's chief news-breaker, replied, 'My honor.' RedZone is moving to ESPN after the sports-programming network acquired the iconic show Still a little up in the air with the move to ESPN is whether RedZone will stay commercial free, which would be a first for the sports programming network. Hanson did not comment on that on his post, drawing the ire of some fans. RedZone was on its own channel for cable packages, allowing the need for no ads. 'If there's commercials I'm taking my talents to StreamEast,' one NFL fan said. 'I can already see you co hosting with Buzz Lightyear one week because Disney owns RedZone now,' a second football fan said. The first edition of RedZone under the NFL banner takes place in a little over a month, with beloved fans of Hanson and the format waiting for any word on if there will be changes after ESPN's monster deal. As part of the deal in acquiring the NFL Network, RedZone, and other properties, the NFL now owns a 10% stake in ESPN.

Freddy Peralta tallies 13th win in Brewers' defeat of Braves

August 6 - Freddy Peralta became the first National League player to reach 13 wins on Tuesday when he pitched the visiting Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-2 win over the Atlanta Braves, extending their winning streak to five games. The Brewers have won 11 of their last 12 road games and hold a 3-2 lead over the Braves in the season series. The veteran right-hander battled through five innings and threw 108 pitches, matching his season high. Peralta (13-5) allowed one run on four hits, three walks and seven strikeouts. He improved his career record to 5-2 against the Braves. Nick Mears followed with a scoreless inning, Aaron Ashby allowed one run in two innings, and Grant Anderson closed the game with a scoreless ninth. Atlanta starter Joey Wentz (2-3) worked 5 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, seven hits, one walk and three strikeouts. The Brewers broke a scoreless tie by scoring four runs with two outs in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Christian Yelich placed an infield single that drove in a run. Wentz followed with a wild pitch that scored Joey Ortiz, and Andrew Vaughn singled home two runs on the 12th pitch of the at-bat. Isaac Collins tripled on a ball that left fielder Jurickson Profar allowed to sail over his head. Brice Turang followed with an RBI single that knocked Wentz out of the game. The Brewers scored twice in the seventh to stretch the lead to 7-1 on Collins' two-run single. The Braves had scoring opportunities. Trevor Story, Wilyer Abreu guide hot Red Sox past Royals

August 6 - Behind 2-for-4 efforts and a combined five RBIs from Wilyer Abreu and Trevor Story, the Boston Red Sox scored five runs across the sixth and seventh innings en route to a 6-2 win over the visiting Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. The middle-of-the-order duo supported starter Garrett Crochet (13-4), who earned his sixth consecutive win after dealing seven innings of four-hit, two-run ball with eight strikeouts. Story drove in three with RBI hits in each of those multi-run innings, including a go-ahead, two-run single into center field in the sixth. Jarren Duran and Romy Gonzalez also had 2-for-4 nights for Boston, which has won seven straight games and four straight series. Maikel Garcia went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a run for Kansas City. Ryan Bergert (1-1) lost his Royals debut despite allowing just two runs on two hits in 5 2/3 innings. Gonzalez's one-out single in the third marked the first hit for either side and set the table for the Red Sox to take a 1-0 lead. After tagging up on David Hamilton's fly ball to deep center, Gonzalez crossed the plate on Duran's opposite-field double off the Green Monster. Crochet retired the first 10 Royals he faced before Bobby Witt Jr. ripped a triple high off the center field wall with one out in the fourth. Two batters later, Garcia knocked an RBI double through the left side to tie the score. Abreu also made an impact with the glove, making a running catch on Nick Loftin's drive into the right field corner in the fifth. Two-out offense in the sixth helped the Red Sox jump back in front. After Bregman drew a walk to end Bergert's night, Abreu greeted Kansas City reliever Angel Zerpa with another wall-ball double before Story's go-ahead hit. In the seventh, Randal Grichuk brought the Royals back within a run on a one-out double just out of Duran's jumping reach in left. Garcia drew a leadoff walk to start the inning against Crochet, who limited the damage with back-to-back strikeouts. Eight Red Sox came to the plate a half-inning later as the lead grew with four two-out runs. After John Schreiber issued a pair of walks and Duran singled in between, Abreu delivered the big blow with a two-RBI single in shallow right. --Field Level Media
