Three more FRU personnel laid to rest in Perak with full police honours
The body of the late Corporal Muhamad Akmal Muhamad was buried at Al-Mubarak Mosque Islamic Cemetery, Kampung Telok Pial, Kuala Kurau, at about 7.30 this morning.
The body was earlier taken to his father-in-law's house at 6.15 am before being taken to the mosque at 6.45 am for prayers and burial.
An atmosphere of grief was evident when about 100 residents and family members were at the burial site of the 35-year-old FRU member.
Meanwhile, the remains of Corporal Mohd Pozli Jaudin, 41, were buried in Kampung Pantai Besar cemetery in Batu Kurau at about 9 am this morning, while the remains of Corporal Mohamad Hilmi Mohd Azlan, 38, were buried at Simpang Mosque cemetery, Taiping at 10 am.
The burials of the three bodies were carried out in accordance with Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) ceremonial protocols. — Bernama

In a statement on Facebook on July 30, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said it foiled the smuggling attempt made via a Malaysia-registered lorry. The lorry was carrying cargo declared as precast products. Based on information received by ICA's Integrated Targeting Centre (ITC), ICA officers directed the vehicle for enhanced checks. The vapes and related components were found hidden inside the lidded compartment of a flat plate, which was on top of the trailer chassis. A chassis is an undercarriage structure that supports a vehicle's other components, such as the engine and wheels. The case was referred to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigation. The ITC is a new unit under ICA that uses data analytics to identify high-risk foreigners before their arrival. These foreigners are flagged for more stringent checks at immigration. A total of 33,100 foreigners were denied entry in 2024 after being found to pose immigration or security risks to the nation, according to figures released in February. From January 2024 to March 2025, HSA seized $41 million worth of vapes – nearly fivefold the reported value of vapes seized from 2019 to end-2023, according to numbers compiled by The Straits Times. The Ministry of Health and Ministry of Home Affairs said in a joint statement on July 12 that they are looking at enhancing laws around vaping. On July 20, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said that both ministries are working together to list etomidate, which is increasingly being abused through vapes, under the Misuse of Drugs Act. With etomidate listed as a Class C drug under the Act, the authorities will be able to take tougher actions against suppliers and users of vapes with the drug. Since July 21, HSA has extended operating hours for its Tobacco Regulation Branch hotline on 6684-2036 or 6684-2037 to report vaping-related offences. Insurance agent in Melaka charged with stalking, defaming ex-wife

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : An insurance agent pleaded not guilty in two separate courts in Melaka today to five charges involving offensive communication, criminal intimidation and defamation against his former wife last month. At the Ayer Keroh sessions court, Akmal Helmi Mat Sirat, 35, was accused of three counts of knowingly posting offensive content on Facebook intended to annoy and harass Masura Mustafa, 40, on June 30, July 3 and July 4 at Taman Bukit Piatu Mutiara, Bernama reported. He was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000, a jail term of up to one year, or both, upon conviction. At the magistrates' court, Akmal was charged with two counts of repeatedly following and intimidating the victim at Putra Melaka Hospital and a furniture shop from July 7 to 23, and posting a defamatory statement on Facebook on July 4. He was charged under Sections 507A and 500 of the Penal Code, which carry maximum penalties of three years' imprisonment, a fine or both, and two years' imprisonment, a fine or both, respectively. Sessions court judge Haderiah Siri allowed bail at RM15,000 for all three charges, with conditions, including no contact with prosecution witnesses and to report to the nearest police station once a month. Magistrate Sharda Shienha Suleiman set bail at RM6,000 for both charges, and ordered Akmal to report to the police station weekly and to have no contact with prosecution witnesses. Both courts fixed Aug 26 for case mention. Deputy public prosecutors Wardah Ishhar and Syaza Nur Sharif appeared for the prosecution, while Akmal was represented by lawyer Haziq Aizuddin Subhi.

2 cops nabbed for allegedly taking RM635,000 bribe
The two suspects, in their 40s, were arrested at MACC's Johor headquarters at about 2am today while giving their statements. PETALING JAYA : Two policemen have been remanded for seven days on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a RM635,000 bribe to not take action against an individual over a gambling offence. The suspects were placed under remand until Aug 5 by the Johor Bahru magistrates' court following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. Berita Harian quoted an MACC source as saying the duo, in their 40s, were arrested at the commission's Johor headquarters at about 2am today while giving their statements. 'Both suspects are believed to have conspired to solicit and accept the bribe in return for not taking action against the individual for gambling activities,' the source said. 'The suspects are believed to have received the bribe in cash.' Johor MACC deputy operations director Hairul Ilham Hamzah confirmed the arrests.
