The dangerous missile, part of Pakistan's military modernization program and aimed at India, was displayed along with its transporter erector launcher (TEL), which can carry three launchers and be deployed in varied terrains. What makes the Fatah-IV missile dangerous?
The Fatah-IV has a range of 750 km, flies at Mach 0.7, and can operate at just 50 meters above ground to evade radar. It carries a 330 kg payload, measures 7.5 meters in length, weighs 1,530 kg, and has a precision margin of error of only 5 meters.
India prepares to launch Next-Gen BrahMos
DRDO is looking to build a next-generation BrahMos missile, which will be a lighter, smaller version of the current version, the organisation's Chairman and Department of Defence Secretary (R&D) Samir V Kamat said on Saturday.
BrahMos-NG (Next Generation) will be able to fit into any platform, unlike the current missile, which can only be used with the Sukhoi aircraft, the DRDO chief added.
'We are looking at BrahMos-NG, which is a smaller version of BrahMos, which can then be fitted on all our other platforms. Today, BrahMos can only be fitted on the Sukhoi platform, but if we can make it smaller, we can fit it on all our platforms. We are planning to start it soon,' he said.

Sudarshan Chakra will neutralise aerial threats to India
The Sudarshan Chakra mentioned by the Prime Minister in his Independence Day speech is a complex combination of long-range radars, surveillance inputs from satellites, aircraft and UAVs, and long-range interceptor missiles that can neutralise any aerial threat coming towards India from its adversaries, according to people familiar with the matter. Simply, it is a multi-layered air defence network that not only protects Indian skies from enemy missiles, drones and rockets but also simultaneously retaliates to the attack and takes the war to the adversary. S-400 air defence system will be part of Sudarshan Chakra. Conceptualised by top national security planners and missile scientists, Sudarshan Chakra is an overarching security architecture that has come into fruition after Pakistan launched nearly 1000 projectiles, including ballistic missiles and armed drones, at India during Operation Sindoor . While some Pakistani missiles and drones were intercepted by anti-aircraft batteries and surface-to-air missiles, others were deflected from the main target by jamming the enemy's command and control network. The need for the Sudarshan Chakra comes at a time when Israel was able to neutralise 498 out of 500 ballistic missiles fired by Iran this year using the Iron Dome system. Given that Pakistan has developed a 2200 km range Ababeel surface-to-surface medium-range ballistic missile with MIRV (multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles) warheads, India needs an overarching system that neutralises all aerial threats—from Kamikaze drones to ballistic missiles—in order to protect its large landmass and civilian population. PM Modi in his Independence Day speech today said: 'India is launching Mission Sudarshan Chakra to create a powerful weapon system to thwart and attempt by enemies to attack us…..all public places will be covered by an expanded nationwide security shield by 2035.' While the Cabinet Committee on Security has already cleared DRDO's Project Kusha which is aimed at extended range interceptors for Indian Air Force and Navy by 2030, Mission Sudarshan Chakra is an all encompassing security structure where control centres will receive inputs from multiple sources including satellites and airborne early warning systems and long range radars to identify incoming threats and then take a decision to either deflecting the incoming missile outside population centers or use precise interceptors to neutralize them before MIRV warheads are launched or before re-entry of the missile into atmosphere, the people cited above added. While India has built significant advanced radar capability, it needs to develop multiple range interceptors of different range and warhead weight to tackle missiles coming at different ranges and different heights. In this context, it is important for national security planners to study the Chinese missile systems as the majority of Pakistani missile arsenal is either from China or from Turkey, the people pointed out. During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan fired Fatah I and II missiles at India but these were intercepted or deflected; it also fired Chinese CM 400 AKG missiles from JF-17 fighters at military targets but these were neutralized. This apart, Pakistan used Turkish Yiha drones with multiple payloads but all were neutralized by Indian air defence systems. According to top national security planners, Mission Sudarshan Chakra is not limited to defence but also has an offensive posture. India is developing short, medium and long range ballistic and cruise missiles such as Pralay and Nirbhay to target the enemy with precision. In this context, the Indian Navy will need long range missiles to target enemy ships from sea as well as land. Mission Sudarshan will be India's answer to all aerial threats with massive retaliation capability which bypass enemy defences and radars.

The project will include not just hard kill options, but also integrated soft kills with greater emphasis on cyber warfare, laser and directed energy weapons. New Delhi: A fully integrated security architecture linking every air defence system, including the planned Ballistic Missile Defence network and Project Kusha, or Extended Range Air Defence System, and space-based capabilities, is set to take shape under Project Sudarshan Chakra, which was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday, ThePrint has learnt. He has set a 10-year time frame till 2035 for completion of the project. 'The protective shield will keep expanding so that every citizen feels secure, and whatever kind of technology is used against India, our technology will prove to be superior.' The prime minister said that Sudarshan Chakra, which incidentally is the Indian name for the S-400 Triumf air defence system, will be a fully modern system, with its research, development and manufacturing done entirely in India. A source in the security establishment told ThePrint that the idea is more like that of the 'Golden Dome' announced by US President Donald Trump. This new network, according to sources, will see both existing air defence systems and future plans integrated, providing a pan-India coverage against incoming ballistic missiles, hypersonics, fighter aircraft, loitering munitions and swarm drones among others. The systems will include those which provide strategic cover as well as those tasked for operational coverage. Sources said that the exact details of the project announced by the prime minister are yet to be fully known, adding that this will include long range air defence missiles to indigenous long-range radars, and would be primarily led by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) with strategic partners in both government and the private sector. 'There are multiple projects that India is currently working on, which are at various stages of completion. However, all of them need to be integrated and be capable of speaking to each other, which will then provide a fully integrated response to any kind of threat,' a source said. One of the key elements of Project Sudarshan Chakra is Project Kusha, which is India's own long-range air defence system. It will not be a system that will replace the S-400 Triumf, but will complement it. 'The Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) system that we use has a range of about 7-80 kilometres, and the next one available is the S-400, which has a range of up to 400 kilometres. This is where Project Kusha comes in. And yes, eventually Kusha will match the S-400 capabilities,' a source said, adding that Kusha is basically going to be MRSAM with extended boosters. Another key element of Project Sudarshan Chakra will be the key ballistic missile interceptors that India has developed, sources added. 'The S-400 is basically our ballistic missile defence. However, we also have our indigenous BMD system which has been in the works for long. India already has interceptor missiles for both exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception. All of this has to be integrated into one security architecture, and this will include indigenous long range radars too,' a source told ThePrint. Another aspect of the Sudarshan Chakra will be integrated space assets, not just for information, but also for round-the-clock surveillance of enemy operations. It is understood that the Chinese were able to have a full-fledged overview of India's military operations during Operation Sindoor, a capability that India is already working on. According to the report, this missile defence system bridges the gap between 80 km and 400 km. It is a long-range defence shield designed to counter stealth aircraft, UAVs, cruise missiles and ASBMs. It will be a long-range missile defence system being developed with completely indigenous technology and parts. The importance of Project Kusha has increased after the way India's Akash system and Russia's S-400 system showed their prowess in Operation Sindoor against Pakistan in May. It has become clear that if future wars are to be won, then long-range missile defence systems will have to be developed. How will Kusha daunt Pakistan and China? Project Kusha will be a big deterrent against Pakistan and China. In this, such arrangements are being made that any missile, drone or plane of both enemy countries will be shot down before it enters Indian airspace. This system will have 3 types of interceptor missiles, which will rush towards their target at lightning speed as soon as they get a signal from the radar and turn it into a heap of fire in a few moments. What are the features of Project Kusha? M1: 150 km range, to target short-range threats like drones, cruise missiles and stealth aircraft. M2: 250 km range, to destroy medium-range threats such as airborne warning and control systems (AWACS) and anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM). M3: 350-400 km range, to target large aircraft and some short and medium-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs and IRBMs). This system has a long-range state-of-the-art radar system which will immediately identify any aerial threat moving towards India, even from a distance of 500 km. Once the project is successful, then 5 squadrons of it will be purchased for the Indian Air Force.
